Location: Wilds, not far from Zinrah
Time: Early Evening

It was becoming atrocious. Now not only did Evalin have to contend with the sweltering heat and the dampening humidity, NOW the rain falls were heavier and more sporadic than ever. They came at Makutsi's whim, falling in sheets around them, drenching the greenery and dampening the ground to mud such that the nuit had trouble standing let alone moving about. It was terribly inconvenient, and really the Goddess should no better than to inconvenience others.

"Be damned all of this!" Evalin cursed as she turned, res flowing to her fingers as she jumped backwards, her back hitting the mud as she flung out her hand, electricity sparking and the leaping with a resounding BOOM as it arched into the trees. Sliding in the mud several feet Evalin quickly flipped back over, not bothering to clean the sludge from her arms and shoulders and simply ran into the trees. She wore only her torn rags this day, for she would not risk ruining the robes or cloak in weather such as this.

Her hand grasped the rough bark of a tree, swinging her body behind it and pressing her back against the little bit of protection, eyes closing as she clasped her hands together, res already beginning to gather around her from deep within. She could feel him. There was little Tsenrika could do now to mask his presence, so complete was their bond. She could almost see his actions as if they were her own, and in fact she found that more and more they acted in much the same way. He was gathering his power, preparing to strike. He, like Evalin, could sense her presence, and soon he would...

Opening her eyes Evalin crossed her arms over her chest, palms flat so that her right palm pointed to her left and vice versa. The res she collected flowed out from her skin, forming two curving pillars about as thick as her waist, and with a hiss they were transformed into glittering barriers of ice that curved slightly in front of her and over her head, giving her protection on 3/4 sides. It was only just in time too, for as she completed the spell there was the sound of shattering projectiles all around her as icy shards were thrown against the barrier and crumbled to glittering powder on the ground.

"Hide you not from this conflict, for the enemy shall never give you chance to flee."

Uncrossing her arms Evalin pressed her hands against the icy creations, pulling more res to fill the minuscule cracks she had intentionally added on the inner border. She lit small sparks of flame within, pressing res and filling the inner surface with air that pressed the hot sparks forward. The inner surface of the ice began to glow a slight red color as the cracks quickly widened from the combination of heat and pressure.

"Know you the difference between fleeing and tactical retreat?" Evalin called out. Just as she did the ice she herself had created shattered into chunks of various sizes and edges. The res she used to shatter the ice she now used to control it, adding more to the mix as she spun around the tree, floating chunks and shards of ice around her as she spotted Tsenrika on the other side of the small clearing, "If not, then learn you well!"

Thrusting her hands forward Evailn shot the icy chunks forward, gathering her remaining res around her as the projectiles sailed on under their own volition. She could already feel Tsenrika preparing a counter. But then of course he was. He was Tsenrika, the heart of her heart, her other half. He knew everything that she did, so surely already he had prepared--

A whoosing should and a sudden blast of heated air caught Evailn's attention as she blocked her eyes from the sudden light. Blinking away the surprise Evailn lowered her arm, starting at Tsenrika, cloaked in replicate form, standing in a circle of steam that hissed in the air. He had used a concussive blast of air and burning heat to shatter and repel the ice, and the heat in the cool rain had caused steam to begin to rise around him. With a curse Evalin began collecting her res faster. This battle would be quite the challenge...

Wretched Aura: As a Wretched One Evalin possesses an unnatural aura about her that causes unease in those who get too close. Sparks erupted from Evalin's fingertips as she let loose the spell she had begun to build, already forming the next in the shadow of the last for she knew that for a distraction this would only serve as a minor annoyance. Thus as the last of the bolt arched from her extended finger tips Evalin clapped her hands together, the res gathered in her palms scattering around her in various sizes and chunks to be transformed into thin, glittering and sparkling shards of ice that hovered around her form.

Tsenrika barely sifted his stance as he extended his own hand, the lightning leaping into his own fingers before arching to is other outstretched palm, and from there it was deflected harmlessly upward and away into the overcast skies to be lost in Makutsi's dance. By this time though Evalin's spell was completed and a new barrage of icy shards was sent spinning toward the Familiar. Evalin pressed her will into the icy, controlling them until the very last second. They spun and twirled, directed by an iron will to circle and divide in two direction to try to take the familiar from two sides. Tsenrika, as always, was ready.

Res was already in his grasp, the clear substance distorting the air as the nuit felt the collective strain on their abilities. Then, miraculously, Evalin watched as the falling rain around the Familiar began to slow, slanting sideways as it was pulled from the very air to wrap around the familiar the familiar. More and more water was collected, additional added to the stream until a virtual wall of water was created, only increasing in size as the rain continued. The ice shards plunged into the deluge, momentum carrying them deep into the liquid, yet by the time they burst from the other side they were slowed down enough that Tsenrika could take control of them himself, setting them to spin in the opposite direction as he parted the water in a stream on either side of his body, his arms stretched out to his sides in a grand display that, despite herself, Evalin found herself impressed with.

"In matters of Ice and cold," The familiar said, a note of boasting in his tone as he smiled at Evalin, "I shall not be bested."

The icy shards were sent hurtling at Evalin then, and the nuit turned her body, res coating her left arm that she extended toward the barrage. The res she pushed forward to form a net of sorts, wide and thin such that the ice shards would all fall into the entrapment. Then the nuit would summon the attractive forces, turning her body and using her left hand to direct the shards from their path, causing them to swerve and scatter off to the side where they shattered against the ground and trees. Evalin knew the next assault was already coming and so she used the momentum of her gesture to spin her body so that she fell to the ground and rolled away, and above her head a jet of water lased against the trunk of the tree which had been directly behind her. Finding her feet Evailn was just in time to cleave the jet of water that was sent toward her the second time, her hands angled in front of her in a V shape, a wedge of sorts with res that flowed along her arms that divided the water as it grew near to her, causing it to splash harmlessly to the sides to add to the puddle and pool of mud and sludge around her.

"Care I not if you believe yourself superior in these elements." Evalin said, setting her hand on her hip, "I am still the Master, and so you shall bow to me."

Tsenrika laughed, "Then come and force my knee to bow to you my Master. I would be pleased to see such come to pass."

"Do not grow too full of yourself," Evalin said as crystal ice shards began to form in the air around her, "For should you press me I shall let you see the full extent of the difference between us."

Clapping his hands together the Familiar brought flames to jump from his up faced palms, hissing as the rain fell into its burning clutches, "Please do show--" Tsenrika paused his words as another sound cut through the darkness. A loud, screeching call that caused Evalin to wince in distaste.

"Come." The time for play was now past and without hesitation Tsenrika came to Evalin's side, releasing his hold on the flames though Evalin could still feel the res that lingered around his palms. His eyes looked about the night as Evalin looked in the other direction, though from time to time they would shift and view the world through the other's eyes as well, looking for...

There. There was a flash in the deep brush, something darker than the shadows flickered across the canopy of leaves but before the Familiar could focus on it it was gone.

"It is fast..." Evalin whispered, turning her head this way and that. The shards of ice still spun lazily around her hands and between her fingers, as teh nuit did not wish to release them just in case... "Tsenrika, Dak dala no."

The command was quickly obeyed and where once stood a replicate there now floated a blue orb, Tsenrika in his Familiar state. He floated over Evalin's head, his size increasing so that he was nearly as wise as Evalin was tall. He hovered a few feet over the nuit, the dark world reflected off of his shining surface. The Immortal Witch then closed her eyes, letting herself slip through the bond to see through the eyes of the Familiar

It was always a little disorienting at first, for an Irylid could see in all direction all at once, in perfect clarity. She could see the stars sparkling above and the limbs of the trees quivering as rain fell off their large leaves. She could even see herself standing below Tsenrika, her hands held out slightly, spell held at the ready for whatever was to come.

It was a subtle thing, something easily missed if it were not for the Irylid's amazing ability in observing details. A shadow detached itself from the darkness, the screech came again as it flew straight toward the nuit from behind, but this did not matter. Evalin summoned the power, the ice forming together into long spikes she held in each hand and then she released them. The Familiar then guided the projectiles and just before impact the res at their center was made to ice as well. The terrible sound of an animal dying, the shadow flopping and writhing on the ground, and then silence...

Opening her eyes Evalin turned to look at the creature several yards back, her eyes splaying over its dark fur, its long teeth and... it wings. Red eyes grew wide as a smile spread over her lips, "My my, Tsenrika... It seems we have found something of interest after all..." She knelt down and gently felt the leather of the creature's wing membrane, "Very interesting indeed."

"A bat..." Tsenrika observed, shrinking down to his normal size to float over the nuit's shoulder, "It is larger than those we have seen before."

"Perhaps its species is natural to these parts." Evalin knelt down, eyeing the creature as the excitement bloomed larger in her chest, "But look at it my dear Tsenrika. Is it not glorious?"

It was a Nightmare bat. Big and furry, long teeth and huge leathery wings stretching six feet from tip to tip. A dark brown, almost black color that was marred by the blood that was spilling from the wounds in its chest. Gently tapping the ice lances with her finger Evalin slipped in a small portion of her res, filling minuscule cracks and then, with a snap of her fingers, transforming them to air all at once so that the ice splintered into shards and crumbled, leaving only gaping wounds with specks of shimmering ice remaining.

Evalin was fascinated. She gripped the creatures wing and pulled it out so that she could see the full extent of its appendage. Large, thin leather membrane was pulled taunt over what looked like thin bones... finger like almost as Evalin ran her own fingers over its surface. Her eyes never left the creature as she began to muse, to think, to wonder...

"Tsenrika... Come. Let us take this creature to study. It holds they key, I believe, to something I have always desired..."

The Familiar already stood beside Evalin in his replicant form once more, kneeling down to grasp the creatures other wing at the shoulder, "Where will we take it?"

"To the ruins." Evalin said simply, taking the creatures other side so that they could drag it after them, "We shall take it to the ruins where we will not be disturbed, not at night."

Bells it took to drag and struggle to pull this limp creatures lifeless corpse into the shelter of the Ruins over Zinrah. Dark and isolated they were, yet with some luck they found an old overhanging belonging to some once great building, the pillars all that was left and just part of the roof under which they now resided. Here they lay the creature upon it's back, stretching out its wings and the Immortal Witch eagerly kneel over their find, running light fingers over its leathery skin.

"Look... look my dear Tsenrika. What spender this creature is. It flies... It flies without feathers or beak. So fierce in its nature." She tilted its head toward her, examining its fangs, "Wonder I... if I might be able to adapt this for my own."

"For certain you could... but to what end?"

Evalin smiled and looked up, "Why think of it and surely you shall see and understand just as I... To fly. To be free, as so few are. This creature, its freedom by wing is something I greatly desire, and look upon its form. Is it not fierce to behold?"

"It is quite dead currently." Tsenrika said.

The nuit rolled her eyes and began undoing the ties of her robes, letting them slide down to her waste as she settled down on her knees leaning forward a bit, "Truly you have no vision of what might be."

Closing her eyes Evalin let the hum of her own djed fill her mind, pulling upon that mental image of herself shimmering and glowing with the energy of her inner soul. The silvery hands that would make the changes began to appear before her darkened eyes, carefully skimming the surface of the exposed flesh of her back, setting tingles where they touched. Now it was that Evalin began to wonder... How does one go about creating wings? This was so unlike anything else she had ever done before. She was not altering something that existed, but crafting a new limb where they was none.

Through her Familiar's eyes Evalin saw the bat's wings, thick and leathery. It had long 'spines', which looked a bit like fingers in their shape extending from what she might have thought was an arm if she knew that it could not be. A wing was, in essence, just a limb as any other limbs were. They were flesh and bone and vessels, yet their function was completely different than any arm or leg or tail.

Best it is to start with the simplistic... The bones upon which the flesh shall sit.

Tsenrika knelt behind Evalin, pressing his physical hands over two point sin her back where the nuit was even now beginning to work with her mental fingers. After some thought Evalin decided to begin this new appendages bones from an existing bone in her back, and so she set to work pulling and pinching on the white bone from her back and shoulders, stretching up and molding it until it began to poke out from beneath the surface of her skin. Gingerly Tsenrika began to trace his own fingers over this protrusion, giving Evalin some direction with which to follow as she continued on with this transformation. At the same time he began to use his own mental djed to guide and shape the skin of Evalin's back, making it stretch and grow along with the bone as it went out, and out and out. Evalin paused as this first creation reached nearly the length of her arm, setting Tsenrika the task to turn and examine the creature for the details of the structures from this point while she maintained the current change.

Turning his attention to the creature Tsenrika pulled on a bit of their power, liquid res pooling in his hand as it flattened and sharpened until a thin blade of ice was created, long and sharp. With it he began to cut at the skin that rested over the main region of the wing, to look at the muscle and bones beneath. As these images unfurled within Evalin's mind she tried to guide what she saw into the creation she hoped to make. The main protrusion she thickened slightly, giving it a slight S curve from where it protruded from her scalpel near the shoulder joint. It was then that the Nuit noticed something odd... She had never tried to create MORE of herself, and now as she struggled with this new limb she found that her mind could not grasp the necessities of what it took to create more mass, more EVA. Thus she shifted her tactic, and instead of trying to create more mass she instead began to pull what she could from the rest of her body. She shrank the muscles of her arms and legs, pulled skin tighter, thinned bones where she could. Anything that she needed to do to add to the growing and slowly shaping wings upon her back.

Tsenrika returned some time later, having fully examined the corpse to relay what he found to his master, and now he once more took up the task of slowly guiding the transformations as they came. The nuit found it more and more difficult to focus, the strain on her djed making the rest of her reduced body shake, but after 5 bells of work FINALLY two large 'wing LIKE' shapes sprouted from her back. The skin was still very human, the same thickness all over and Evalin could not move it as she wished. It was too large, too bulky, and much much too heavy.

They set themselves then the task of thinning out the skin, pulling it taunt over the newly fashioned bones and thinning away at the appropriate areas which would become the membranes of the wings. Evalin was thankful for this part, for the more they shaved away the more she could allow to snap back to areas they were needed, adding a bit more to her stretched skin over the rest of her bones, filling out places where she could so that she did not look so much like a skeleton in a meat suit. It took at least two bells more to finish this part, with Tsenrika slowly moving from side to side over the membrane, thinning and evening it out and pulling it more and more tightly over the bones. Lastly he began to check the joints, for unexpected by either of them the bat had more joints that previously thought. The joints were many, most small, and it took great time and effort to get them right enough that Evalin could have the freedom of movement that the bat had. This included the joint at the shoulder that would allow the wings to flap omnidirecionally as needed.

At last it was finished, and Syna was just beginning to peak over the horizon as Evalin stood, shakily, to her feet. She stretched out these new additions to her body, almost falling were it not for Tsenrika who caught her as she lost her balance. After all of the work the wings were strangely light, though Eva was certain they had reinforced where they could well enough that it was a match for the bat's own wings. She could shift and move these things freely, like an arm with leather membranes, though she coul dnot pick up or grasp anything with the 'fingers'. Each wing was about six feet from her back to the tip, giving her a near 12 foot wing span in total, proportionally the same size as the creatures.

Folding the flesh colored wings in front of her Evalin ran her fingers over the gray leathery skin, "Look... Look my dear Tsenrika. I am free."

"As my master says..." Though is words clearly held more than a little doubt as to the outcome of this little project.
