Moderator's Note: Rovan, for future reference you don't need a moderator for simple purchases that are listed on the prices of the store - you can self-mod these. Please check out the Rules for Posting on how to do so in the future.

Also, as Archon pointed out, Qayala's Quills is in the Great Bazaar. Which is in the basement. Which has no sunlight. So... yeah. Please make sure you read the lore on Syliras and perhaps check out the District Maps as well. :) Thanks!
PLEASE NOTE: Finals are over, but summer is eating my soul. As such, as of the end of June I will not be accepting any new quests/modded threads until I finish some of the ones I've already started/agreed to. My apologies for this, but I don't want to be unfair to those who have been waiting for replies!

[Syliras Location] Qayala's Quill

Nathaniel gave a slight quirk of his eyebrow at Rovan's impatient dismissal of his concern, but then simply shrugged and answered the man, "Five bottles of simple black ink will cost you five silver Mizas."

Bending over Nathaniel procured and placed on the table four more bottles of simple black ink while replacing the one exquisite bottle.

Rovan placed 5 silver mizas on the table, before stuffing the bottles down in his satchel. He only mumbled a "thank you" before taking his leave, uncomfortable in the situation as he was.
OOCOh, bummer. Right, my bad. I keep forgetting it's a roofed city x). I'll keep these things in mind, thanks for informing me.

[Syliras Location] Qayala's Quill

Postby Runas on June 30th, 2011, 9:57 pm

Summer 1st, 511 AV

The Eypharian found herself wandering the old paths she had taken when she last visited the sprawling city. Her deep green eyes scanned the different faces, the somewhat altered stores, and the inns she had once found exciting and frivolous. She still found them exciting, but she had no patience with them. In a way, she was tired of things she had tried before and she wanted something new, something fantastical.

Instead, she'd chosen to find a job in the Bazaar and learn some new, overrated activities she'd not bothered with previously.

With a sigh of boredom, the Eypharian turned her attention to the painted signs of various shops. She had no desire to work as a tailor, fruit vendor, or baker. Her eyes drifted easily from the locations relating to those professions, and then they settled on Qayala's Quill.

A smile curved the Eypharian's painted lips as she loped towards the store, her interest taken by the idea of ink, of colourful liquids that could be scrawled over parchment and in books. She loved colour, revered it. Of all the things she'd remembered of living in Eyktol among her family in Ahnatep, the Eypharian remembered colour the most. Paints, dyes, silks... Colour was her life and her enjoyment, and she could have loved colour had she not devoted her love to her Deities.

She smiled at the man who owned the shop, her green eyes flaring with amusement at such a lovely place to buy and sell ink. She wondered for a moment if he were hiring for work, before she spoke in warm, sweet tones laced with only the faintest of amusement.

"Good afternoon. I was wondering if I could purchase two bottles of that exquisite black ink, one of green, and one of scarlet? And... If it is not too much difficulty, I was wondering if I could perhaps be employed here part time for the afternoons? Perhaps around the lunch hour?" She smiled after speaking, although the smile never truly touched her eyes, which almost always were indifferent.

[Syliras Location] Qayala's Quill

Postby Archon on July 1st, 2011, 5:06 pm

As Runas approached the stall of Qayala's Quill the old man inside the stall, Nathaniel, watched her with a mildly curious expression. He seemed to be looking her over in a simple, appraising manner, and what he saw caused his bushy eyebrows to raise slightly.

Still, when Runas asked for the various inks his face crinkled into a pleasant smile, and he set about placing the requested inks on the counter, "The inks will cost you 2 Gold Miza and 5 Silver Miza," his words were precise, but still pleasantly toned, "As for employment, are you talented with copying or calligraphy?"

As Nathaniel placed the last of the bottles on the counter in front of him his eyes fell upon the henna tattoos on Runas' arms, and after a moment he asked, "Would you tell me, was it you who did those designs on your arms, or someone else?"

Runas smiled, her lips curling up in humour while her eyes kept their distance. She liked pleasant people, and this old man was quite polite, to say the least. She fished in her little purse for the mizas requested, drawing out 2 gold and 5 silver as requested. If she weren't so stingy, she might have given him a silver just for his trouble.

"Well... In all honesty, neither." Runas' smile only grew, as though she found her inability to make art out of writing a source of amusement. "I'd be willing to learn, though... Of course, if I am not suited for this job I would not ask you to take me on. I'd like to help, not hinder." Her smile barely dimmed after she spoke, and only because she was handing him the mizas and gently packing the ink jars in her satchel, keeping the precious bottles swaddled in the cloak Runas had stashed in her satchel for when Syna would begin to settle beyond the walls of Stormhold Castle.

At the mention of her tattoos, her eyes finally sparked again, mischief flashing in them for only the eyes of the perceptive to behold. She turned her eyes to look over her tattoos and chuckled.

"Do you like them? I made them, but I have no skill in it, and I completely made a mess of them in some places." Admitting to her own fault did not shutter her smile either. She found her mistake amusing, but only because it was something she could improve in yet and was only untrained thus far.

"No skill, perhaps, but you do seem to have a bit of natural talent," Nathaniel smiled pleasantly at Runas, "Please, come around the table so we can talk a bit more personally," he gestured for her to move around the table and behind to where a young boy was bent over a desk writing on a paper.

Once Runas came around Nathaniel offered her his hand for a firm shake, "Allow me to introduce myself. Nathaniel Hastings, owner of Qayala's Quill and instructor in the ways of copying and calligraphy," he gestured to another desk, which sat empty, "I typically have a pair of younglings working here, but I've recently had one move on to different things. Normally I would look for someone younger to fill the vacancy, but it would be a shame for us to not develop your natural talent. You would need to attend lessons during the morning and work here in the afternoons, but I'd be able to pay you two Gold Mizas a day," Nathaniel's bushy eyebrows raised questioningly as he turned his full attention back to Runas, "What do you think young lady, would that be beneficial to you?"

"Well, thank you..." Runas smiled at the pleasant compliment bestowed upon her. Never one to let a praise go without relishing it, she truly did enjoy compliments and the people most likely to grant them. This man, he was one of them. When he invited her behind the table, she followed him without hesitation. The walls of Syliras always promised safety and protection to those bound within them. When he proffered his hand to her, she extended one of her own and shook it in a firm, yet impersonal, grip, a small smile dancing the corners of her lips.

"My name is Tawna re Sirall." She said in reply to his introduction. In the day, she always introduced herself as such, and in the night she was Runas. It gave the illusion of being two people, and it allowed her greater freedom as both. "I am a wanderer. I won't stay the entire year though, Sir... I usually spend one season in a city and then continue my traveling for another season. If that's still fine, I'll gladly accept this position." She couldn't help but flash another smile at him. His terms, to her, sounded agreeable. She'd get the evenings to herself. That was all she wanted, pretty much.

Nathaniel's bushy brows furrowed in response to Runas' explanation of her plans, and his lips pursed slightly as he mulled it over. After a fraction of a chime he gave a nod and a pleasant smile crinkled his face, "Some help is better than less, and it would be a shame to not develop your talent. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, Tawna re Sirall, at the fifth bell at my quarters. Thomas here," he gestured to the boy sitting at the nearby desk, who was still busy at work, "Can show you the way later."

"Thank you, and I will be here." Runas smiled slowly, eyes a-glitter as she looked down to the busily writing boy. She was most certainly older than him, and while others may be riled at having to take direction from a younger person, she didn't much mind. Her gaze returned back to Nathaniel, and she bowed slightly.

"I look forward to working for you, Nathaniel, and working with Thomas here." At this, she gave the boy a smile.
