OOC: Season of Summer, Day 61, 514

The sound of crashing, screaming, and howling echoed through the city as an iron smell hung in the air. Men and women clashed against one another, weapons in the air as they tried desperately to stay alive. Bands and gangs came together like thunderclouds, smashing against one another in an explosive reaction that sent the other citizens into a panicked flight. Everyone ignored the heat that baked the area and grew in intensity as the piles of people pushed against one another, amplified by their bodies and close proximity.

The main streets were overrun with chaos and destruction. Fear and anger mixed together as the minor gangs fought one another. Weapons ran crimson as the dirt became stained with the lives of those who lost. Children screamed, but their voices were lost in the noise that overpowered the senses. Dirt hung in the air like a thick cloud, kicked up as a result of the war that broke out over the lawless city.

Koruma clung to the shadows of the alleyways, his knuckles white around the dagger as he slunk through the shadows. The sound of crashing echoed through the buildings, causing him to flinch with every step. His breath came hushed and quick as he did his best to stay out of the fights. Every inch of his body was alive with adrenaline, his eyes and ears awake and alert for incoming danger. Butterflies filled his stomach, threatening to dump the contents at any moment. Scared and uneasy, he had one thought in mind, getting back to the orphanage. It probably wasn’t the safest place to be, but he was worse off on the streets.

The boy’s heart nearly leapt into his throat as a pair of men feel from the streets into his alley. Long knives glittered in the sunlight as they wrestled in the dirt, fighting desperately for the upper hand. Koruma fell back, slamming hard against a wall as he scrambled away from the fighting pair. But the bright red shock of hair on one of the men gave Koruma pause. It was Marvas, one of his teachers. Koruma’s eyes went wide as he watched Marvas struggle with the larger man who loomed over him. For a brief moment, Koruma though about jumping forward and slamming his dagger into the other gang member’s back. But bile rose in his throat and Koruma twisted, speeding away from the fight.

A tear dripped from his eyes as he turned the corner again and again, dashing through the streets as fast as his legs could carry him. Twisting, Koruma narrowly avoided another brawling pair as he darted into another alley. His feet skid across the dirt, kicking it up as he slid behind a pile of crates. He clutched the dagger close to his heart, feeling the pounding beat as it thundered in his chest. Bile welled up in his throat and Koruma had to swallow, forcing himself to keep his lunch down as he tried to remain alive. Coward. Koruma pushed his fist into his forehead, fighting against himself as he sniffled. It would be a miracle if he could make it home in one piece.
