Saede Lare

Physical Information:

Character name: Saede Lare
Race: Human, Vantha
Gender: Female
Born on: 17 Summer 497AV
Age: 17 years
Weight: 150 lbs

Appearance: Saede is medium height, at 5'7'', and has near flawless, slightly tanned skin after moving south at a young age to Sunberth. She has long, black hair with slight red highlights that goes slightly past her shoulders. Because she is a Vantha, her eyes are a bright, crystal blue that change depending on her mood. Saede is also somewhat built from her spear training as well as endurance running in the cold. Overall, she is very pretty.
She wears back and breast armor (A cuirass) made of steel, steel gauntlet that stops about her wrist to allow for extra maneuverability in combat. (But less protection) She also had Besagues that protect her neck and shoulders from some of the more lethal hits. Beneath this armor, she wears a simple dyed red shirt that covers up the areas between her armor pieces. Past her torso she has shorts and high red boots, leaving her legs protected by mostly just the boots.

Character concept:

Personality: Saede is a hard-working, medium intelligence person. Her normal personality is kind of friendly and adventurous. She is somewhat honest, and she strives to be 'perfect', as she used to be quite the opposite when she was younger. This results in her acting in unrealistically kind ways. She's not very shy at all, and goes through decisions several times in her head to try to get the best situation. She's willing to try most things, unless they are just too dangerous. She tends to be doubtful of other people, and is quick to assume that they mean to hurt her in some way as per her time in Sunberth. She also can't resist pressure via the people around her. For example, if a crowd was cheering her to kick somebody that was down, even though she wouldn't want to, she would do so because the crowd had pressured her to do so.

Ethics: As I mentioned, Saede is quite honest. Under regular circumstances, she would try to avoid lying, mostly because she wants to be as good as she can. She is not afraid to claim lives for justice, but is otherwise not to keen on killing anyone. For example, If she was travelling and she came across a fake toll booth, she would want to strike them down with her group.

Likes: Saede likes the thrill of combat, exploring new areas, companionship, athletics, and proving people wrong. She also likes completing things as soon as she gets them, so that she doesn't have to do them later.

Dislikes: Abuse of all kinds, lazy people, failing. She's not so enthusiastic about reptiles or bugs of any kind. Above all else, she hates feeling trapped in one place or schedule. This makes her kind of non-committal.

Character History

Short version:
Saede has recently turned seventeen. Already past her age of maturity, she leaves Sunberth with the will to explore and rid the world of evil. When Saede was younger, she ran in a gang in Sunberth doing minor crimes such as Drug dealing, mugging and jobs for the higher powers in the area. She wasn't very involved. Saede was always backup because she wasn't as stealthy as the other thugs, but she was handy with a spear and made sure nobody got close to her. She was alright at it, but then one day during a mugging she realized just how terrible the things she and her group were doing. The next day, she left for Syliras. Now, she strives to become 'perfect', to redeem herself and prove to herself that she is better than she was.

Long version:
Secret :
Saede watched in horror as they beat him. She had been sent to 'greet' the man who had just arrived in Sunberth. He wasn't from around here, and you could tell just by the way he walked in. He came in, full stride, gold necklace glittering on his chest. It had the symbol of some god on it, but Saede really didn't know which one it was. The man was wearing slightly worn, brown robes with leather shoes on his feet. He had short black hair, and a confident expression on his face. It was a wonder he's made it this far.

Saede worked for a gang, but only a small one. She never became a higher rank backup or bait, but she got the coin to survive from it. She'd been doing this ever since she was six, and honestly thought it was almost normal to do this. Like every city was as corrupt as this. With all the chaos, anarchy and crime, you couldn't survive if you always did what was right. She'd heard about other cities, but they were all just rumors. You couldn't place trust in rumors. Despite being a lower rank, she had a few friends among her ranks. More than most others at least. She had heard that her family came from Avanthal, and that she was born there. She'd also heard that her parents came here when she was little, and got killed on their way in. Much like this man. But after she talked to him, she realized, is this really how it has to be?

It was a summer evening, at the entrance of Sunberth. Saede had been informed a priest was coming into town to try and help calm down the rapidly approaching gang wars, and that he'd never been here before. The gang noted this as an excellent opportunity for some of the younger thugs to prove themselves, so she was assigned the task with two fellow gang-members. One named Zenvys, the other Farven. She hardly knew them, but she knew they were cruel, greedy people. They made a plan together. When he arrives, Saede would intercept the target and bring him into an alleyway. Then, Zenvys and Farven would kill him and take his stuff. He was supposed to have a fair amount of gold, after all. Although, Saede had never been on a killing mission before and she was a bit nervous. Could she kill the man? What if he noticed something was wrong? Doubt flooded her mind while she restlessly waited by the side of the street for the man to arrive.

Saede saw the figure approaching the gates and jogged over to meet him.
"Hey!"
She called to him, as she approached him.
"Good evening," He responded.
"You're here to help calm the gang wars, yeah?"
"You know it." He called back evenly.
"Come on, I'll bring you to our hold." The man followed obediently behind her. They still had a ways to go, so she decided to try and put him off guard through a bit of chat.
"Where you from?" she casually asked him.
The young priest hesitated for a moment, and said he was from Sylira. He told her of all the wonderful things and people there, and she had a sudden longing for a place as calm as what he had depicted. A place where you didn't have to watch your back, and gangs don't rule with intimidation. He continued talking about all the way there, mentioning his name, which was Darson. As well as his family he had there. In return Saede told him of how sketchy this place was, but toned it down so that she wouldn't frighten him. When telling him of the crimes around here he made a comment that echoed in her head the rest of the way to the location. It doesn't matter who you were. I'm sure anyone here could change, if they wanted to. It was more positive than most of the stuff she heard, and she liked the ring to it. By the time they arrived, she almost forgot she intended to kill the man.

They arrived the destination, a few turns off the main road into their territory. Suddenly Saede remembered, she was here to kill this man. The walls around them were only separated by a few meters and came to a dead end with a wooden door on the left side. The priest, Darson, would have nowhere to run. The walls were about 15 feet high, and were made of stone brick. Saede became uneasy. The conversation about Syliras broke off and Saede stopped in her tracks. This man didn't deserve to die. Not like this.

Zenvys stepped out from wooden door, making no attempt to hide.
"Good job Saede." He said deeply.
Zenvys was obviously trying to intimidate Darson, and it seemed to be working. "W-what's going on?" He protested.
He shot a longing look at Saede, one that said 'How could you do this?' Saede stiffened. Paralyzed in guilt. How could she do this? Zenvys stepped forwards again, and unsheathed his long-sword while Farven jumped out from the other side, grabbing the priest and covering his mouth. The priest squirmed and protested, but not for long. Zenvys advanced, and punched Darson in the gut. Darson groaned and stopped squirming, winded by the hit. He tried to look away as the next punch came straight to his face. She heard a crack, and when she looked back, Darson's jaw wasn't in the same place. This was wrong. It was all wrong, she couldn't let this happen. She hastily unsheathed her Spear, the only thing she kept from her parents bodies. As Zenvys stepped forwards, sword raised to finish the priest, she shoved the spear into his undefended back. Both hits connected, the priest and Zenys fell onto the ground in unison. The priest had his torso cut open, he was badly bleeding. Zenvys fell to the ground as well, spear in his back around his upper shoulder blade. His sword lay beside him. Saede could hear him grasp for breath. Farven instantly unsheathed his short-sword from his steel scabbard and raised it against her. Saede kicked the long-sword to the side and lowered her spear to match Farven.

"Traitor!" He hissed. "Why would you do this?"
As he said this, Saede was consumed with thought. Was this even worth it? She had failed. Darson was dying, and nobody could help him. His family would never know what happened, and she had just ruined her gang promotion. All for nothing too. She tossed the thought aside. 'Hold on.' she thought to herself. There was a reward. Justice. She would avenge Darson, even if she was the only one who would even know it. She turned her attention back to Farven and gave no response. She had stopped shaking. A focus she had never had was now within her. The back of her neck felt a short jolt of pain, and a phrase echoed through her head.
"You are the chosen of Wysar. Consider yourself blessed, and may this blessing help you bestow justice to all those who need it."
Letting go of her spear with one hand, she reflexively reached for the back of her neck where the pain had come from. Upon touching it, she could feel things she otherwise had no ways of feeling. She knew Farven was about to take advantage of her movement, and come in with a horizontal slash about her waist, and several quick slashes about her chest. But before she could process it, the first attack had already connected. Farven had landed a solid sword slash into her waist. She knew that in a normal one on one, she would have easily beaten Farven with her longer reach. But this was no normal one on one. Farven was already up past her guard, and without the blessing she would have had no chance of surviving. After the first attack, she feinted backwards at the end of Farven's sword range. Her spear shaft ready to meet his advancing attacks. Farven didn't stop there. He pressed on, but she parried the next attack with the metal shaft, and pushed him back out of range. Seeing him stumble, she knew she had her chance.

A light moan let her knew she won the fight. She quickly finished off Zenvys with a second stab to the back, and raised her spear that was now bathed in blood. What have I done? She thought. Her adrenaline was gone, but she felt more consumed than that. Could it have been the ability she had received? Saede looked down at her waist, acknowledging the wound, but ignoring it. She was spent. She bent over, inspecting Darson and taking any valuables the three had on them. She was going to need them. Darson had no pulse. She turned away, covering her wound with cloth from his robes.I have done what is right. She thought to herself. I may have failed to save Darson, but in the end, even a god approved. If that's not enough, I don't know what is. Inspired, blessed, and her morals corrected, she left Sunberth to Sylira in hopes of a better life.
