Fall 514 AV Day 3 Morning/Mid-day Finally, Saede had been hired! Her first job as a mercenary was to guard the front gate of Syliras and check out what people are bringing. There's a bit more depth to it that that, but she got the basic idea. When she'd arrived in the city, there were only a few guards checking out what everyone was doing. Now, there was a bunch of them, ten in all, checking each person who went by. She assumed that the guards simply didn't have enough people to spare, or thought it was an unimportant job until now. She's been checking people out and asking questions so far, but she hadn't had to detain anybody yet. The other guards didn't seem to excited to be here, but they all did the job nonetheless. She spotted a caravan up the road. Finally, something exciting! Checking people out was quite bland when compared to checking a caravan that could be full of anything. Sure, she'd seen a few people. But most of them weren't all that interesting. 'I'm here to find work.' 'I'm here to visit my aunt' Stuff like that. The caravan approached, being pulled by a large multicolored horse. "Huh, that's a nice Colorsplash he's got there." Colorsplash. She'd do her best to remember that. The horse did look well maintained, and its chestnut fur was well combed. Clearly this man was very proud of his horse. The driver looked at the guards, a worried look on his face. Obviously he hadn't heard of the attack yet. He rode up to the gates and asked, "What's going on here? Did something happen?" Saede was the first to respond, eager to see what he was carrying. "There's been an incident in the city, so we've increased security. I'd like to request that we take a look at what you've got there, sir." Satisfied with her introduction, she waved the group forwards. She was far from the highest rank here, and she got a glare from the guard who was. It doesn't take rank to greet a carriage. She thought to herself. Four of the guards stayed in front of the gate, making sure nobody passed. Meanwhile, the guard who had mentioned his horse earlier starting chatting with the driver- about the horse. "That's a nice horse you got there, where'd you get 'er?" The driver smiled at him and replied, "I bought her from a farmer when she was young, but raised her myself after that. I do my best to keep her in shape." Saede almost didn't want to interrupt him, but she had a job to do. She started asking him the standard questions while her party went around to check what was inside. "Excuse me sir, but what bring you to Syliras?" He turned his attention away from the horse-enthusiast and said, "Just business, got a load of baking supplies in the back. Stuff like flour, sugar, milk, some meats, and strawberries." Saede nodded in response, and made to tell ask her next question. "How long do you plan on staying in Syliras?" "Well this one's a new question. Just a few days, I plan on selling a bit, buying a bit, and leaving." Saede was trying to write this down onto her sheet, but her writing wasn't exactly top-notch. "Last question. What's your name and age?" "The name's Jake. I'm currently 27." Finishing the forum, and hoping that her writing was at least readable, she made towards the back and heard the horse conversation resuming. "How're things going back here?" She asked as she peered into the caravan. The guards were searching through the items in the cart, and she mentally compared everything in the cart to what he had told her. Everything seemed on track, except for a few bags of horse food that he hadn't mentioned. "Be sure to check everything!" Called the lead guard. "You help too." Oh, he means me. While everyone was checking other things, she walked over and decided to check the meats. There was an array of different kinds; Pork, Lamb, Steak, all laid out neatly and organised by type. "Hey guys. I think I've found something." Called one of the guards in a small voice. Everyone turned their attention to him at the flour bags, where he held a white powder in his hands. "This isn't Flour. This is a drug, Funkus." Saede stared at him in disbelief. No wonder Jake had seemed so nervous at the start. She examined the drug in his hands. It was a white powder, much like the flour. But unlike the flour, it felt scratchy when she touched it, and gave a slightly different smell. Before this, she had actually forgotten that drugs were illegal here. Now I know for next time. The captain gestured to the group to come out, and they proceeded to surround Jake with weapons pointed at him. "Please come with us, sir Jake. You are to be detained for illegal drug trade. Should you resist, you won't make it far." He flashed a threatening smile at the end for extra effect. Saede did her best to look intimidating herself, but she wasn't all that good at it. Meanwhile, Jake looked terrified. He made to protest, but stopped himself. "Alright, I'll go with you. But I didn't pack no drugs in there, honest!" They made their way to the gate, and passed off the prisoner. They moved the cart out of the way and continued with their job at the gate. Saede felt a bit sorry for the Jake fellow, but didn't do anything to show it. The rest of the day was not so eventful and she finished around evening, where she returned to the inn. |
