Carin goes out into the swamp and what he finds isnt exactly an animal.

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

2nd, Fall 514 AV

It was a morning like any other. Warm and beautiful in Kenash. Syna's rays had just begun to fully stretch over the city. Shining through the windows of homes, rousing those who slept inside. Though this wasn't the case for Carin Rander. His brown hair combed to the front, laying down neatly. He pulled on a pair of his boots and stood up. Stretching his arms and yawning. "What a beautiful day" he said with a smile on his face as he turned. Grabbing his traps and a small pocket full of dried apples he used for bait. He sat off, his knife and Kurki at his waist. He headed into the woodland that lay outside the city.

The life of a trapper was pretty routine. Wake up, check your traps, catch anything bring it back and eat it or sell it. Then set your traps again and repeat. It was something that Carin had grown used to. Traveling out with his father into the woods, to help bait and set traps. He got his fingers snapped and caught in them to many times for him to really count. Tiny scars could be seen from where the loaded spring door had taken skin and even cut into him. His mother would always worry when it happened, often saying that he wasn't cut out to be a trapper. But the next morning he would be up and ready to go again.

The crack of leaves and branches echoed as he moved through the swamp land. His boots padding in mud and muck that he had grown up in. "I swear if I don't marry a sensible woman, she'll kill me for tracking mud everywhere" he laughed. He smiled as he found one of his favorite trapping spots, two fallen trees. One had come to rest upon the other making it east for him to hide his trap. He sat both of them down, pushing one till its back end was under the log and began setting it.

Pulling open the gate with both his hands. His fingers slipped and it slammed shut with an echoing snap. "Petch" he cried out pulling his fingers back. "Sometimes I feel like tossing these things and getting a new life" he mumbled under his breath as he tried again. This time the gate locked into place and he pulled a piece of the dried apple out of his pocket. "Bless me with something good today Caiyha" he said giving he apple a kiss as he slid it into place inside. He grabbed loose leaves and branches and began covering the trap. Hiding it and masking what sent it may have, leaving the front open for anything that may wander inside. He got up and headed off, not to far from his previously laid trap and went to work in laying the other.

Out in the Swamps (Ravenna Raye)

Ravenna awoke with the rising sun, as was normal for a hunter. She dressed and readied herself for the woods, grabbed her kit, quiver, and bow, and headed outside. Ravenna's favorite times of day were the early mornings, outside of the days she wished to sleep in, and evenings when the sun was setting. There was something refreshing about early mornings on beautiful days and something soothing about the transition into the night as the sun went down. Both always comforted her. She took her time heading from her home into the woods outside Kenash. She was in no rush. Nowhere else to be, nothing else really to go get into, and so she had no reason to do anything but be leisurely in her pursuits that morning. Once she was in the woods and the hunt was on, it would all change.

She entered the woods a short while later, senses shifting to high alert, movement more careful and calculated, in total aware of her surroundings. The bright sun made tracking mildly easier than normal, but she still wasn't very good at it yet. She could see the tracks, that part was easy, but figuring out how to follow them was a whole other story. And until she either found someone to teach her how to get better at it, or figured out how to learn on her own, she'd have to stick to happening upon her prey by chance. Mindful of her footing and the terrain beneath her, Ravenna pushed onward through the woods, keeping her eyes in constant scanning movement and ears alert to any sounds that might give away a potential kill for her. Small animals like squirrels and such scurried all around, but Ravenna felt like it was overkill to regularly hunt squirrels with arrows when there was so little fur and meat to them. The arrow itself was larger than them for goodness sake. She wanted a fox or something of similar size.

She was rather disappointed with the lack of appropriate hunting animals that day, perhaps it was just a reasonably dead zone in that part of the woods, and so she grew less cautious as she proceeded forward and was more focused on finding an area with appropriate animals than she was on disturbing the little critters scurrying around that were of no use to her. She still made sure to remain alert of her surroundings, but she relaxed more as she walked along. She finally came along a rabbit that scurried away from her, but never got out of reach for her arrows. She just needed a place to set up and shoot it from. Ravenna wasn't a fan of just standing there aiming to kill an animal. She didn't like the idea that her target could see her in advance before she killed it. She wasn't too kind-hearted to the point where she couldn't be a huntress, but she was kind-hearted enough that it mattered to her whether or not her prey knew they were about to die before they did. Maybe that's just because she was a woman and sensitive, maybe it was her past, she couldn't be sure. But she thought of things like that and so she always tried to hide herself before she shot anything.

She spotted a few fallen trees together and figured it'd be a good place to kneel at to hide her body while she lined herself up to take the shot. She crept over to the fallen logs as quietly and efficiently as she could, careful of twigs that would snap beneath her feet or particularly thick piles of leaves that would crunch and break with enough sound to scare off her rabbit. She reached it with the rabbit easily within range of her arrow and easy to sight as well. Squatting down near where the logs met one another, she rested one knee down on the ground, and had the opposite foot flat on the ground, bottom resting on the heel of the leg with the down knee. This position allowed her to rest her body weight in her lower half, allowing her upper body to be lighter and with more freedom of movement, and once lined up as she wished, she could lock her muscles to hold the position in place.

However, today she was struggling to keep her body balanced upon herself, so she inched forward to where the logs intersected, choosing to gently lean her hip against one of them for a helping hand in her balance. However, inching her flat foot forward to do so, a loud snap echoed from directly in front of her, sending her rabbit fleeing for its life. The sound was so sudden and unexpected, it startled Ravenna and the sudden jump of shock sent her off her heel and onto the ground backwards. Looking down, she realized now that she'd entered the toe of her boot into a trap that had been laid underneath the edge of the logs. She was so focused on her rabbit that she hadn't even seen it. She giggled to herself for something so silly and she was still sitting there laughing when she realized she wasn't alone in the woods.

The sound of the trap was familiar to anyone who shared the profession. The metal clang as the gate went to close, a wide smile now spread across the trappers face as he ran back. He walked into the clearing and saw something he didn't expect. A beautiful girl was sitting in front of his trap. He walked over to her and said "You okay ma'am?" He knelt down next to her. His hands moved to his fingers hooked underneath the cage. Lifting it up, his free hand moved down her calf. Pushing her leg up and pulled her foot out of the trap. He pulled the gate open again, listing for the gate to lock into place. He turned back and smiled at her. "Sorry bout that. Didn't know anyone else hunted in this area. Not used to seeing people" he said.

"Names Carin. Carin Rander, and yours?" he asked, he turned and sat down. Leaning against the log. His eyes moved up her body, taking in every curvy of her body before his eyes came to rest on hers and his smile grew wider. "I can honestly say that I was expecting to catch something small and cute, not something beautiful like yourself." "How'd you manage to spring my trap? If you don't mind me asking" he said. His arms resting on his legs, the birds of the swamp singing their song as Syna slowly climbed into the sky. Her rays shining through the trees and plants that grew up wildly. This land that he had grown up in, the spot they were in now was all to familiar to him. His father had brought him out here when he was younger. His eyes were innocent as they looked into hers. The bluish green tint shone as the light came over the trees, his smile wide and inviting. He wiped the sweat that had formed on his forehead.

Embarrassed giggles were interrupted when a man appeared and came to her side. He was very handsome, something Ravenna couldn't help but notice immediately. Sandy blonde hair suited his tanned skin and bright eyes, matched yet again with a stunning smile. He asked if she was alright, hands immediately going to work removing her foot from the trap and resetting it again. He was gentle and careful with her leg, muttering on about how he wasn't used to seeing anyone else out there or anyone else hunting in that area. A sweet smile spread across her lips as she answered him, folding her leg in front of her once it was free.

"Yes, I'm fine, thank you. No harm done. Just embarrassment, haha. No need to apologize. I wasn't paying attention to where I was stepping. Thankfully I stepped into your trap here rather than a patch of quicksand. I don't have a particular hunting spot. I wander all over."

He sat beside her, leaning on one of the logs, and introduced himself as Carin, a name she'd never heard, but liked nonetheless. Though she pretended not to notice, she saw his eyes wander up her body before resting on her face, accompanied by another beaming smile and a compliment on her beauty. That statement was followed by the question of how she got herself into the situation she was in when he found her and she smiled as she began answering his questions. "Ravenna Raye. Nice to meet you, Carin." She giggled at herself again for how silly it was to have set his trap off like that, and at her gratefulness that it wasn't something worse she'd stuck her foot into. "I was following a rabbit out here, and when I knelt behind this logs, I'd crept up closer to them to stabilize myself to take my shot, and just stuck my foot right into your trap. I was so focused on my target, I hadn't even seen it under there."

The sun was rising and warming up, its rays beaming off his hair and reflecting in his oceanic eyes. His physique was dearly impressive, with tight defined muscles and a chiseled jawline, short scruff framing his face and mouth. He was stunning to behold, and Ravenna was honestly taken aback that she'd never seen him around, either in the city or out here hunting. "Forgive me, Carin, but I'm afraid I haven't seen you around. Are you new to Kenash? Or am I that far removed from the social aspects of life that I've just never seen you? Haha."

The freeborns eyes glowed in the mornings light. Her voice echoing in his ears, such a sweet tune. "No need to be embarrassed. It happens" he said with a simple shrug. "Yeah, I don't know if you would have been able to get out of quicksand. I only came back because I heard the sound of the trap go off. I tend to wander, but mostly stick to certain spots where I know I'll get something." he said pausing to let the air between them rest for a few ticks. Hoping not to block her from saying anything she wanted to say. "Today, I got pretty lucky. Don't really talk to many beautiful ladies like yourself when you are in the woods. A lot of them in Kenash seem to want to stay inside" he said. Wiping the sweat that slowly dripped down his forehead.

"Its nice to meet you Ms. Ravenna Raye." he said. He nodded chuckling at her story. "Got a case of tunnel vision" he said. He paused as he felt her eyes on him, his smile turning into a but of a smirk as he took the time to enjoy a look at her. The curves of her hips and down her long legs, before jumping up to her chest. His eyes locking into hers again, the green shining brightly through the hazel in her eyes. Her golden hair now blowing in the slight breeze. A slight lick of his lips as he caught himself day dreaming.

"I'm not really the social type. Ma said I should interact more. But I like the peace in the swamps I guess more then talking it up at some party or gathering of rich people." he stopped scratching the hair on his chin before turning back to look at her. "I cant really answer the second half, do you go to parties a lot?" he asked her. Sliding just a bit closer to her, feeling the warmth radiate off her body. The birds singer their song. He quietly began to sing to himself, the slight humming of his vocal cords as he went along with the words. His voice was just quiet enough to not echo, but if she listened she would be able to hear him. "Let the rain show me the way, and the storm guide my heart."

In response to her, Carin began yammering on to her about where he hunts, Ravenna smiling a bit in adoration of his choice to explain himself to her. A comment slipped about the majority of Kenash's beautiful women choosing to stay inside, getting a smirk and an eye roll from the huntress. Her head dipped to wipe her face on her sleeve as she responded to him. "This is true, but unless I just got back from a long day of hunting, or it's nasty weather out, I hate being indoors. What's the point of living somewhere if you don't do a single thing to enjoy the land you live on? We must show our appreciation and gratitude to the land we live on for sustaining our civilizations."

Moving on to their introduction and how she became stuck in his trap, he noted that it was nice to meet her and called her circumstance a victim of tunnel vision. She giggled and nodded in agreement with him as a breeze rolled through, wisps of her hair billowing about her head. He asked if she went to parties a lot, and as she answered him, she became very aware of how much closer to her he was now sitting. "No I don't go to parties at all." She didn't mind that he was closer to her now, it was sweet and a bit thrilling, though she'd never openly admit that. a moment later, he began singing, softly and quietly, but she was close enough to him to hear if she paid attention. His voice was beautiful, and while she didn't know the song, she did her best to hum with the tune as he sang, smiling at him in enjoyment of the surprise show.

He smiled at her statement. "That is true. But tell a Dynast lady that and she'll look at you like you are crazy" he said. He gave her a wink then shifted a bit, his hands at his side now. He pushed himself up, he turned and offered his hand to her. "I do not mean to be rude Miss but I need to go and set my other trap before its to late. I would be honored if you would come with me." he said. The smile on his face was sweet, the look in his eyes honest. It was unusual for him to find someone who shared the same interest as him. Syna's rays continued to shine down on the two as they talked. "And I agree, what is the point in life if you stay inside all day. You need to get out and experience the world. Taste what it has to offer rather then buying it or it being brought to you on a silver plate."

"If its not to soon. Maybe we could spend some more time together, after we are finished here that is." he said. If she took his hand he would help her up then grab his trap. Waiting for her answer, he looked out towards the woods. His eyes slowly turned back to the beautiful girl that was before him. The softness of her eyes resting on his made it hard for him to turn away. She was definitely someone who he would not forget any time soon. Her face had already been burned into his mind and he was sure that she would be in his dreams, at least for tonight. But it was far to early to worry about that. For now he would just enjoy the time the two could spend together.
