Kavala liked to pride herself on being something of an expert on Kelvics. Just because she wanted Adrien ready for everything she wanted him prepared for didn’t mean he was going to be. She knew she’d messed up, pushing him too hard and inducting him too soon into reimancy. It was a super important thing, a power that she could never take back and he could never loose, and his reaction to it had hurt her feelings more than she cared to admit. To Kavala, all power was incredibly sacred, and to Adrien it was just another new thing he’d been exposed too and he treated it like it was no big deal while at the same time acknowledging that he was immature. Immature people didn’t know they were immature. That was the whole issue most times. So she wondered what his real trouble was. Too much, perhaps? Was there just too much too soon on him with their bonding, his move to The Sanctuary and frankly she knew the sexual tension was also an issue between them. He was male, very male, and wanted to do what males did when they felt things deeply. Kavala was obliging him for the most part, but she was still hesitating on committing fully to a relationship that was full fledged like Adrien wanted.
It didn’t bother her or pressure her to know what he wanted. He was designed for it, even though Marcus Kelvic himself would probably deny it. The Kelvics were crafted, not created, by human hands and not that of the Gods. They were designed to serve people and had deep seeded needs to serve. She knew Adrien would see to all her pleasures and quite happily. But the problem was deep down Kavala wasn’t sure she deserved such things. It was a minor problem, one that would work itself out in the end. The bigger problem was that Adrien made her uncomfortable every time he said he’d protect her and keep her safe. It made her skin crawl when he said it, though she’d been trying to hide the reaction from the kelvic. He couldn’t protect her. He was young, and even if his size in his kelvic form was formidable, the people she called her enemies had powerful magic and an utter lack of what she would consider a rational conscious. Adrien had no idea how strong they were…. No idea at all.
And for some reason, lately, she’d been flat out terrified at the thought of them coming for him or anyone here. The only thing that could protect her was her mind, her magic, and to some extend The Sanctuary itself. Everything she’d done here was for protection. Adrien didn’t know that. He had no sense of how deep Kavala’s fears went or how cautious she was of folks like The Ruv’na.
But there was time for that thought later… for the entire train of thought to be reviewed later. Kavala drew her thoughts back to Adrien as he tilted her chin up and spoke to her about his change. She’d just enjoyed one of his embraces and was starting to relax a little and force her mind to let go of everything that was always swirling around within it. She went with him when he tugged at her hand, leading her outside and talking about his other form. Kavala was confused why anyone would try and hunt him or taken away. Kelvics came in all sorts of forms and the only thing she could think of they’d truly be afraid of was something like a glassbeak or grassbear. Adrien was nether. He wasn’t even a predator. He was just a large grazer… okay HUGE grazer… and one with a reputation for being surly.
He lead her outside, into the arena which was just a few steps outside of the ramp leading down into the Within.
He began to speak and she thought perhaps it was one of the longest one’s he’d had for her in a while. Kavala nodded to his words, her attention and her bright blue eyes on his. She squeezed his hand whenever he paused to take a breath and heard him out. She even nodded to a thing he said a time or two. Then he formed a bit of stone in his hand, easily converting his djed to res, which surprised Kavala. Control was hard to learn at first. He didn’t seem to have any trouble with it. She almost smiled then, knowing he was an Earth Reimancer… a geomancer. He would fit in well.
She met his eyes when he made a statement about her power. To Kavala, it was less about how much power someone had and far more about how they used it and how the world reacted to its use. A very simple spell could change the world if implemented with proper timing and a mastermind approach. Too much power wielded by a thug could be just as useless if someone could outsmart him in an instant. It was all in context and Adrien should know that. Her power. His power. It mattered little. What mattered was how one used it. Opportunity and timing was everything.
Kavala’s eyes marked the track Adrien’s stone took when he tossed it, noting where it fell so she could retrieve it. To her, the first thing crafted by Reimancy was sacred. She was sad that he just tossed it away. It wasn’t another tool to manipulate. It was part of him he crafted and set out into the world. But he had other things on his mind…. Other worries to share with her. He shifted, in the soft glowing swirl of light Kavala was used to Kelvics using. And suddenly the man was a beast, a huge one at that, which stood in her arena and walked towards her.
Kavala had seen Rhino’s from afar. She was told never to get close, even on horseback, because they were ferocious creatures and very territorial. She could see that about Adrien, though his ferocity was more passion and less blind dogged determination to keep anything and everything he wanted. She reached out as he brushed her side and ran her hands over his thick body. He had fur too, a smattering of it here and there, making his skin sensitive to the touch. She could see him twitch as she traced the contours of his body. His eyes were the same warm tone but everything else about him was strange. He had no hooves, but rather thick pads that seemed to be as tough. There was just so much of him, from the tip of his horn to the flick of his puffed tail. His joints didn’t bend like a horse’s joints would. Even his breathing seemed different. She climbed on when he invited her, looking for a place to grasp on and finding his width challenging for there was nothing to grip with her legs.
“Don’t kill me!” She said with a laugh, as she stroked his neck from her perch on his back, feeling not all that secure despite the fact she was an excellent rider. They had the whole arena to explore and if he wanted to go beyond it, the horse gates could be easily opened by one of the grooms that were lurking about half watching while trying not to be watching.
