When the creatures hit the ground, even in their dying state, their bodies disappeared - though it was somewhat incomplete with the icicles sticking out of them and their dark blood blooming on the ground beneath them. Keene didn't waste much time examining the things before Palaren called out a retreat that Keene was quick content to oblige. He didn't understand how the creatures were able to conceal themselves so completely, nor what had made them a failure to the wizard who had created them, but he supposed it wasn't quite as important as them not dying. The images were quickly stored in his memory, sealed by the growing irritation of the thing, lengthy cut down his left arm that had begun to rise in intensity of pain as his adrenaline had begun to waver. A hasty egress with whatever forces the beasts might have yet in waiting was by far the most prudent call, and Keene had little issue falling in behind the lumbering run of his more encumbered companion, keeping an eye behind them should anything follow.

Their boots hit the ground in near rhythm, Keene's pace adjusted to accommodate the fact that he carried nothing with him as opposed to the shield and trident of the one he followed. Though they ran, nothing pursued and after a time, they neared the relative safety of the edge of the prairie marked by the sloping trail that led back to the Vestibule's doors. Their pace slowed then, the prospect of running up the sizable incline something that was ill-advised, especially with the threat of pursuit little more than a small shiver at the nape of the neck. The dash had left his breath coming quicker and sweat forming around his temples, but for the most part it had been a welcome exercise that didn't involve the howling screech of the invisible potential of being shred to ribbons. Taking a moment to check his wound, Keene frowned down at the cut. From what he could tell it was a clean strike, but he supposed it was unnecessary to take chances.

Holding his hand a little distance away from the cut, Keene let a small bit of his res trickle from his palm, guiding it with his will to follow the line of the cut. With a gentle brush of his hand down the length of the cut, the res was transmuted into a rush of cool water with just enough res to draw it downwards through the cut and out at the end of it. He winced just a bit a the pain, the attraction of the water partially incomplete to allow some of the liquid to gather up the blood which he then shook free with a few quick flicks of his arm. Turning to appraise Palaren's condition, his frown deepened some. He hadn't known that the other man had been wounded, though he couldn't quite tell where the blood was coming from. "Are you alright? The question was as void of concern as anything else he had said that morning, but it was benign by the nature of the question.

Sweat was stinging Pulren's eyes as the pair made their way out of the prairie. The sting of the salt in them was a small comparison to the very bright and active throb of the deep slices in his forearm. They were bleeding freely now, especially with the efforts the Zeltivan had mustered in his defense. He sincerely hoped that invisible feline predators from Sahova didn't carry strange diseases.

Better to not think about that.

HE was sort of surprised how fast they had made it back to the great doors and looking up at the climb ahead, he decided it was time to take a rest. The doors could provide ample cover if need be. Dropping his shield and weapon with a clatter, Pulren looked down at his arm, perusing the length and depth of the slashes as he pulled his shirt off and over his head, revealing his long scar across his chest and one in his shoulder. Not wanting to lose the ability to move onward, he wrapped the shirt carefully around his elbow, tying it tight to slow the blood flow without losing feeling in it. Watching Keene, he quickly saw an application of the man's Reimancy which intrigued him.

"Could you hit me with some of that cool water, Keene? I could use it.

Palaren's request was unexpected but reasonable, and he nodded as he stepped closer. He repeated the spell, pulling the water through the cuts to clean them with the chill of his magic. As he worked, Keene was careful to keep his fingers from touching the other man, his fingertips gliding slowly a small distance from the lesions that ran a bit deeper than Keene's. When he had finished, Keene let the water drift to the ground as he took a step back to give Palaren room once more. His grey green stare held steady as he watched him, little showing on his face as he let his thoughts simmer now that they had escaped the imminent danger.

Contrary to what he had been told, it seemed the Scars, despite their city of residence, were not adverse towards magic. If Palaren had spoken true, he was a reimancer as well. The Lady Redwulf was also a practitioner of the elemental magic, and as for the dark skinned Noven, Keene wasn't sure whether the man knew anything of the arcane or not, but he only seemed generally disgruntled, not one who feared the mysticism of magic.

Magic aside, Keene wasn't sure what to think of the opinionated, trident wielding Zeltivan. While they shared a common place of birth, that seemed to be the only thing between them. Even the manner in which each approached magic was fundamentally distinct to the other, no common ground. It wasn't that Keene wanted to find a point of shared interest, rather he found Palaren to be much like the people he had seen day to day. They had yielded little interest to him then, and while Palaren was, perhaps, not the most alluring of enigmas, he had had things to say that were certainly curious.

Letting his gaze slide back towards the way they had come, Keene saw no indication that they had been followed. As far as walks went, it had been one of the more exciting ones. He supposed, in a way, it was probably for the best that he had taken Palaren with him. A small voice reminded him that it was just a probable had he not taken Palaren with him, he wouldn't have been attacked in the first place. In either case, Keene found there was little reason to wonder about it. It had happened, and it had ended with both of them alive and most of the creatures dead. Turning back to Palaren, Keene slightly raised a brow. "Perhaps it would be better to return you to your 'ventilated box' now?"

A Monkey's Uncle (Pulren)

Pulren winced a bit but mostly relaxed as Keene used his Reimancy in such a stunning way. It was really something to behold, watching what must have been Water and Air combined to make Ice. His command of Ice and Water were a thing of weight. The most exciting part was that Pulren knew that he had the same power inside of him. He had the same potential to do such amazing tasks. The most he had done so far was throw rocks, but seeing how almost any use could be made of the magic, he thought that he just might invest some time and energy into the discipline.

Once the operation was complete, he looked out on the prairie as well. What a petching disaster of an island. Sure, just be dead, or like his present company, want to be, and life becomes simple. Life becomes simple when you're dead. Truer words had never been thought to Uncle Pal. "Damn, that's a good piece of work. Hopefully it will stave off any infection that the strange creatures here may carry." Listening to Keene's suggestion, it didn't sound terrible at all. Picking up his shield and weapon, he nodded simply to the Zeltivan before him. "Yes, a ventilate box sounds perfect. Dull to the core, but safe. I'll take safe for the rest of my evening. Thanks, Keene."

With that, he turned his back on the Wizard and started making his way back up the long corridor. There was little reason for pomp. The Wizard had been pretty clear in his general distaste for all things emotional, so Pulren decided for Keene that he would feel fine with parting easily. Stretching his arm and flexing the elbow would have to suffice for relief until he could get back "home". Back to his ventilated box.
