20 Winter 514

Clyde had slowly been working on mastering this odd new ability he had begun to unlock with Cha, and finally felt he was nearing fully understanding it.

Last time he had used a combination of trial and error work, and Auristics, to come to realize that there were non-physical niches within Cha, or the magical equivalent that was interpreted as such by his Aura reading. Within these niches he could flow his magic or spells inside, and hold it there for a time.

The ability to store ones magic for a time, casting and then later releasing, clearly had a wide avenue of uses. Now that he felt he understood the niches, and how to send his magic there more or less, his next step was to better understand the process of casting the spells within the staff.

His last attempt had been more by accident, a release of a spell that had inadvertantly become a transmutation and release. In that instant he had stored the djed inside, but had lost hold of it as soon as it was turned into a completed spell. That would not do.

His goal then today was to work on casting spells inside of Cha, and keeping it there for as long as he could.

Once more in his lab, Clyde worked up a mental image of Cha in his mind. Next he focused on the idea of the niches, on the concept, trying to expand it within Cha. Earlier when flowing in djed he had found them by use of Auristics, but to truly use it he would need to be able to find them without that, with only using his own mental processes and focus.

Focusing as such on the picture of Cha taken apart, of the levels and such as he often saw when using Auristics, he focused on a single one of the niches within.

Willing his res to rise and flow into Cha, he forced the res into the niche, holding is steady. Next he willed a transmutation, while doing his best to hold the magic inside of the niche, to store it for later. Air. He willed the res into air, within the niche, and pictured the air staying there, ready to be released.

Instead, a sudden gust of air blew out of the head of Cha, the spell releasing immediately.

Clyde shook his head, and let out a sigh.

“Clearly still some work to do...”

[Sullin's Residence]Slow Magic: Part 2

Postby Clyde Sullins on February 4th, 2015, 7:07 pm

Though the spells he was doing was not impressive, he still could not hold it within. Clearly once he mastered the process of holding the spell within, he would need to slowly work up to larger and larger spells, until he could hold any size within.

Stealth was another possible use of the magic, along with speed of release. If he could make and mold the magic within Cha, and then release a finished product of a completed spell, he would be much better off than if he had to take the time to fully form the spell outside, as he normally did. It would allow him to seemingly create a large spell all at once, while in actuality he did it over time by preloading.

Focusing on his djed and the niche, Clyde once more willed his djed and res to rise, to flow along his body and into it. Air. Air was the safest of elements in general, particularly when used indoors. He did not with to damage his own shop, and so would keep things to such non damaging elements.

As the res formed, he felt a small pulse, a feeling of djed on the air but not, a pulse settled firmly within Cha. While the djed still existed and moved, it seemed less noticeable even to his passive auristical senses than a normal spell let out in the open air.

This time he worked another gust of wind, focusing once more on holding it still, solid, of a gust of wind frozen like a block of stone, its idea and image stored within the niche within.

Once more Clyde willed the res to transmute, to take effect and make its change, thus becoming a completed spell. This time though he focused much harder on the idea of a frozen spell, of one unable to move and be released, mentally gritting himself.

And he waited and held... And held... And then felt a release of air blowing across the room out of cha. Though he had not commanded the spell to release, it had, as he lost mental purchase. But this time it had not been immediate, instead he had held the spell at least several chimes. A improvement over his last attempt, though not a success truly.

Perhaps then his mental imagery was not strong enough? Clyde spent a few moments before his next attempt thinking through the process, thinking on what he could picture the holding back of the spell as.

The spell as a physical thing, rolling down a incline, and himself bracing himself and standing there, holding it back?

The spell as a piece of wood, and his mental will a vice within which it was held, keeping it contained and still?

Himself as a orb of res, of power, and the spell as a flowing wave, a river, trying to flow onward and past him. Instead he willed it to stand still, and the waters fell back, unable to push in and past.

The last seemed the oddest, since he was more or less picturing himself doing a specific instance of a spell, in order to hold the spell, but it seemed oddly right, or fitting. Options though were always good, always nice to have.

[Sullin's Residence]Slow Magic: Part 2

Postby Clyde Sullins on February 5th, 2015, 9:18 pm

Over the next bell, Clyde spent spell after spell, one after another, each insignificant before his might, but a spell all the same. By the time a bell had passed, his last spell had lasted perhaps ten chimes, before he lost his grip on it and released it. Overall he had perhaps done a dozen wind spells, likely less. But each time he did it Clyde felt the action grow more second nature, felt it growing easier and easier to mentally command the actions into being.

Focusing once more, Clyde willed his djed to rise as res, preparing for another spell to be stored away within Cha. This time though he did not keep still, instead pacing about in circles within the room, using the motion as a primitive gesture.

Focusing on water, Clyde imagined himself as a mighty orb of res, his presence within it pulsing out commands and will.

Below him flowed a river, a mighty sea of djed, blue and silver in a flashing pulsing scintillation. Willing the water to rise, Clyde pulled off a stream, flowing it up to his orb of res, letting it flow about it in a arc and then a circle as it became a ring of flowing water about him.

As it flowed he sent another command, willing it to slow, to chill, to lose its speed and motion. Slowly the water did, taking on an icy film, until finally it came to a rest, a solid ring of ice frozen in his thought space, within the niche in Cha.

Breaking his focus from the mental process upon which he had focused, Clyde looked about, finding the basin in which Clyde would cool off the Magecrafted items he enchanted. Standing over it, he pointed Cha, and then released the spell, mentally imagining the waters unfreezing and quickening. As he did they came forth, spilling out of the head of Cha, a steady stream flowing forth for several moments before the spell spent itself.

It had only been a small spell, but he had held it, held it and released it upon his command after a good half of a chime. He hoped to increase that time, but believed he had the basics of it down, of how to go about storing the spells and holding it in. Next he needed to try a more powerful spell, and then perhaps more than one at once.

He first though tried the process he had just done, though without the heavy concentration. If it took so much focus each time, it would be useless in combat. Clyde knew he needed it to be fast, to be secondary within his thoughts, almost without need of direct thought and will to do it. When he reached that point he knew he would be done, but it was a point he was not yet to.

Willing his res to rise and form, he gusted it about, slowly transmuting it into air in a set pattern, a twining twisting expulsion of air. Then he willed it to still as it transmuted, and focused instead on his motion, on his walking about the room.

After waiting ten chimes, Clyde willed the spell to speed forth, and watched as a twisting vent of air came pouring out of Cha, making his robes stir in response.

Letting out a sigh of mundane air, Clyde sat down on the edge of the pedestal, and rested. He would take a drink of water, laze about for a bell or two, and in general rest, before going back to his work. Clyde of all people knew the importance of breaks in spell work, and of keeping one focused and at their best when working magic. A break would likely do him good, and would let him come back refreshed and ready to press on.

[Sullin's Residence]Slow Magic: Part 2

Postby Clyde Sullins on February 6th, 2015, 8:23 pm

After resting for several bells, Clyde was ready to get back to his practice.

Now that he seemed to have the basics of storing and releasing down, at least when he focused on it, next he wanted to attempt to store more than one spell.

Picturing a pair of niches at once, Clyde willed his djed to fill them as res, to expand and flow inward. Next he focused on the transmutation, a quick spell, one of water and one of air. With one he twisted and twirled it into a wave of water flowing outward in a stream. With the other it was a concentrated blast of air flowing forth in a gust.

As he transmuted them both into their final spells, he willed them to still and freeze. However for some reason it did not work, and instead both spells exited immediately, the gust of wind coming out on the side Clyde was facing, sending the cool air against his face in a quick blast that forced his eyes clothes. The other shot out from the opposite side, splashing down his front and wetting his clothes.

Letting out another sigh, Clyde tried to figure out what had gone wrong, but he wasn't certain. He'd flowed the djed into the niches, transmuted it, all going as planned. But for some reason the storing mechanism hadn't worked. The only difference had been...

“Petch... Two at once.”

Apparently while he had multiple niches for djed to be stored within as completed spells, he still needed to store them one at a time. Or at least he had not progressed enough at this point to be able to store more than one at a time. But then, it had also taken him a long time to be able to do multiple spells at once, especially with varied transmutation elements, so perhaps it was simply something that came in time?

Flowing the res once more, Clyde filled a niche, flowing it in and expanding it, working the djed into a form as he transmuted it into another gust of wind. With a thought he sent a mental command, stay, and then pressed on to the next spell. He repeated the process, flowing the djed as res into the niche, transmuting the spell in the needed form, and seeing it as a gust of wind. As it changed into a full spell Clyde sent another though command, another order of stay, and then took a deep breath.

Waiting several chimes, Clyde paced about the room, keeping his mind occupied with other topics and things.

After ten chimes he stopped, held up Cha, and willed both of the spells to GO with a mental command. A pair of spells released, twined gusts of wind blowing out where Clyde indicated from the sides of the face of Cha.

Next was a more complex spell. Filling the niche with even more flowing djed, Clyde mentally crafted the spell as he would with res in the open air.

First a spray, air, a small gust transmuted outward in a arc. Next, layered atop it, air and water together as ice, a film spreading over the air chilling it, making it frigid. Then a small film of water, droplets spread about, acting as a means upon which the frosty air could focus. As each layer of the spell was done Clyde willed it to stay, freezing it within the niche by mental command.

Once he was done Clyde waited, a chime, two, ten, fifteen, before holding up Cha before him and releasing the spell with her face pointed at the stone pedestal in the room.

All at once there was a buzz across his skin, as the spells djed released and felt its presence becoming known and awake. All at once the spell released, the layers interweaving into one spell as easily as they did when made in open air.

The droplets of water were flash frozen into tiny bits of ice by the blast of frigid coldness. Then the air gust released in an arc, sending the ice shards flying outward to strike the floor and pedestal in the room. Due to their small size, only droplets each, they shattered and broke upon hitting the stronger surfaces. But Clyde could easily imagine that if they had been larger pieces, or spikes, the shot ice particles could have easily sliced through flesh and sinew.

The new ice shooting spell was simple, and yet interesting. Perhaps then something Clyde could do later, if the time arose.

For now though he felt he had made good progress with Cha, and understood storing and releasing spells quite well.
