Time Stamp: 27th of Spring, 515AV
Location: Top Notch
Who: Turrin

Walking into the Top Notch, Turrin was considered a new up and coming archer in the Wind Reach. The half breed already was considered a expert by his peers, but he wanted earn the status of master, so he needed to work on speed and mobility while he was shooting. This the endal needed to think outside the box, so the myrian sat and watched one of the elders practice her shooting. Turrin sat on a vantage point in the archery range where he could watch everyone shoot. The myrian made sure that he paid attention to the elders because they had years of experience to fall back on to help their skill. The myrian doubt that they would be willing to teach a young man like him without a price, so he would just observe and see if he could mimik their technique.

Turrin eyes went to elderly woman with long white hair. The myrian had to admit the old lady was quite good shape for a elder, and he figured the woman was fairly attractive back in her prime. When she got to the firing line, the woman had her quiver on her belt. The myrian leaned forward on his perch, noticed she pulled out two arrows from quiver, and held them both in her firing hand. Turrin rubbed his chin as he wished that he was closer, so he could get a better look at her firing hand holding the arrows. However, he did noticed that she was firing on the right side of the bow instead of the left. The endal smirked and thought to himself, Interesting way of positioning the arrow, Elder...

Turrin stuck out his hand, looked how he could possibly hold two arrowing in it at once and fire at the same time. The myrian knew from past experience that normally fired with the pointer and middle, but it finger left the ring finger and pinky empty. The myrian was still watching the woman, but she was talking to another elder, so he had time if he to think the through holding an two arrows at once. If he held the second arrow by the feather end in the ring and pinky finger. The endal could in theory fire one arrow after another without reaching into his quiver. It could save him precious ticks that could save his life in the Unforgiving.

Once the elder woman was finished talking to the older man, Turrin saw her approach the firing line, got into position, and lifted her short bow to shot. The myrian was amazed at the show because the woman aimed bow her gold feather arrows at a straw deer target, pulled back her bow string, and fired at the deer; however, he could tell that she was master because as soon as she fired her first arrow, it must have been a matter of ticks before the another arrow was in her hand and firing at the same target. Turrin looked over at the deer and saw the first arrow hit the deer in the head, but her second arrow split the first arrow down the center. The myrian thought to himself and shook his head, Wow....I wouldn't want to be that deer.

Turrin decided it was time for him to stop lurking about range and shoot. Turrin hopped off his perch and walked to a firing line in the middle of the archery range. Most of the stalls were wide enough to move around, so he could shoot at multiple targets at the same time. The endal didn't bother to bring his own arrows because they were already provided for the endal shooters. The hunter took the practice quiver from shelf and secured it to his back. Turrin wanted to see the difference in quiver placement, so he would try the back method than the hip method.

Pulling arrow from his quiver, Turrin want to try out how fast that he could shoot two arrows with the back method of quiver placement. Getting into position, the endal locked his eyes on a neck right below the deers head. Taking a shallow breath, he pulled arrow from the quiver, placed it on the bowstring, rested on the left side of the bow, pulled back the arrow, and fired. On Turrin's second shot his eyes never left the target as he immediately pulled another arrow from the quiver behind him, placed it on the bowstring, pulled back the arrow and fired again.

When Turrin stopped firing, he noticed his first shot hit the target dead on the mark, but also the second arrow hit the neck, but it off the target by about four or five inches. They were both killing shots since the first arrow impaled the neck by the jugular and the second hit by the spine. The second was air at the jugular, but he thought that his aiming was off since he had to grab another arrow. The endal decided to try the next hip method of placing the quiver. He was unsure how it would work, but if the elder woman used it with no problem, he was certain that it was fairly useful method of arrow placement. Turrin decided to go for a little farther target and fire are the wolf target ten feet behind the deer.

Turrin unstrapped the quiver from his back and secured it to his right hip, so it would easier to get another arrow with his firing hand. It was awkward at his hip because he was always used to keeping on his back, but he figured that he would get used to it. Walking up to the line, the large endal reached in to his quiver and pulled out a arrow. Turrin knew for his first target that he needed to adjust his shot to hit a farther target, so when he placed the arrow on the bowstring, the myrian lifted the tip of the arrow slightly above the body of the wolf target. The endal knew if he wanted distance. He would have to allow the arrow to get some air under it, so it will carry farther through the air. For his second shot, he would be shooting at the dear target again, so he would have to quickly readjust his aim to hit the closer target. Both shots will be aimed at the largest targets the bodies the rib cage.

Taking a shallow breath, Turrin placed the arrow on the bow string, lifted the bow with his left hand, so the tip of the arrow was slightly over the target. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, the endal readjusted his aim, so the tip of the arrow was over the body of the wolf. Releasing the first arrow, the endal didn't bother checking if his arrow hit as he reached down with his firing hand, pulled arrow from his quiver, and rested hand on the left side of shaft of the bow. He noticed the arrow placement on the left side of the bow shaft slowed him down because he had to bring the arrow around the shaft of bow to place on the knuckle of his pointer finger. He lost about two to three ticks just moving the arrow around the shaft. It was a small detail, but two to three seconds could mean his life in a battle to the death. However, he adjusted his aim back to the deer, so the second arrow was pointing directly at the center of the ribcage of the deer, pulled back the arrow to his cheek, and released the bowstring. The arrow flew straight towards the center of rib cage and plunged deep into the side of the deer target. Lowering the short bow, the endal looked at his first target and noticed the arrow hit the target in the rib cage of the wolf too.

Turrin noticed that the quiver at the hip was great for shooting fast because he can easily access the arrows with his firing hand without reaching around his head at the quiver on his back. However, he needed to figure out what to do about shooting on the left side of the bow. Turrin lifted his bow with his left hand, studied his hand positioning for about ten chimes, and decided to try to shot on the right side of the bow. Pulling another arrow from the quiver, Turrin placed the butt of the arrow on the bowstring and rested the arrow on the knuckle of his thumb. Suddenly, the arrow slipped off the knuckle and fell to the floor. Picking up the arrow, the endal tried balancing the arrow on his knuckle as he lifted it short bow, but the arrow slipped off his hand again and fell to the floor.

Getting frustrated now, Turrin keep his thumb straight out, so the arrow had a place to rest without sliding off. Placing the butt of the arrow on the bowstring, Turrin rested the arrow on his extended thumb on the right side of the bow. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, the endal lined up the tip of the arrow head with the middle of the neck of the deer. Taking a shallow breath, Turrin released the bowstring on his exhale. The endal had no intention of going for a second arrow, so he kept his eye on his arrow and the target. The myrian watched in disbelief that the arrow completely missed the deer target by a good three feet. Turrin looked at his thumb positioning and started to wonder if his extended thumb was the reason for the abysmal shot. He started to wondered when he pulled back the bowstring. The arrow slid towards the right, and when he shot the arrow, the arrow's veered right because it's starting position was already messed up. Looking at his thumb, the endal hook his finger up and thought to himself, What if I hooked my thumb up, so the arrow rested between the shaft and thumb. It should stay straight in theory.

Taking another arrow from the quiver, Turrin placed it on the bow string. Hooking his thumb up, the myrian rested the shaft of the arrow between his thumb and the right side of the shaft. It had a awkward feel to it, but he was sure that he would get used to it. He lifted the short bow till the metal tip of the arrow lined up with the center of large part of the neck by the shoulder of the deer target. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, Turrin adjusted his aim back to his original target and released the bowstring. As the first arrow released, the endal took another arrow from his quiver, placed between his thumb and right side of the shaft, pulled back the bowstring, and fired again. Quickly, he grabbed another arrow, placed it between his thumb and shaft, and pulled back the bowstring and released it. After the three simultaneous shots, the endal looked at his arrows and saw his first arrow hit the center of his target and the second arrow missed his attended target by about five inches, but it still hit the deer in the neck. The third arrow missed his intended target, but it did hit the deer in the rib cage.

When Turrin was watching the elder, he noticed the woman was able to hold two arrows in his firing hand, so he took two arrows out of the quiver. Without touching the bowstring, Turrin put his hand in a firing position. The endal noticed that he can hold a arrow between his pointer and middle finger and hold another arrow between the ring and pinky finger. Looking at for another chime, Turrin theorized that he could fire two arrows at the same time, but he will have to try it later. Leaning his short bow against wall of the firing stall, Turrin pulled two arrows out of his quiver, placed one between the pointer and middle finger. The endal took the second arrow out of his quiver and placed it between the ring and pinky finger. He could tell while he holding both arrows that he won't be able to fire on at time since both are pointing forward, so he will have hold the second arrow differently than the arrow in the middle and pointer finger.

Turrin readjusted his arrow, so he held the arrow by the but of the arrow. He didn't want to hold the arrow by the tip because broad tipped arrows and more elaborate arrows can have sharp edges, so it would be safer hold the second arrow on the shaft right under the feathers. Turrin put his theory into practice the strange positioning of both arrows in his right hand was cumbersome, but he thought to himself that it might work. Picking up his short bow, Turrin walked to the firing line, got into his stance and placed the first arrow on the bowstring. Lifting the bowstring, Turrin lifted the short bow till the tip of the arrow lined up with the center of the deer's rib cage. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, Turrin took a shallow breath and released his arrow on the exhale. The first arrow struck the deer in the center of the ribcage, but he dropped the second arrow in between his ring and pinky finger.

Turrin looked at the ground, shook his head, and decided the grip wasn't practical for him. The endal decided try another way of holding his arrows without holding both in his firing hand. Turrin took another arrow out of the quiver and decided to hold them against the shaft of the bow with his left hand. The myrian theorized if he held them right under the feathers with the butt up than he could quickly grab one arrow and fire another one quickly without unnecessary movements. Putting both arrows in his left hand, Turrin held the shaft of the short bow and the two arrows in the same hand. It made his grip against the bow shaft kind of cumbersome, but he was able to get a good grip around the short bow and the arrows. The endal took a third arrow out of his quiver and placed it onto the bowstring. The myrian rose the short bow till the metal tip lined up with a badger target that was in front of the deer. Pulling back the bowstring, Turrin readjusted his shot till, so the arrow realigned with the center ribcage of the badger. It was a smaller target than the deer or the wolf, so he decided to take his time aiming for the first shot.

Turrin released the bowstring on his first shot. Loosing his grip on the shaft of the short bow, the endal reached forward and grabbed a arrow held in his left hand. Placing the butt of the arrow on the bowstring, Turrin rested the arrow between hooked thumb and the right shaft of the bow The endal lifted his bow till the metal tip of the arrow lined up with the neck of the deer. Pulling back the bowstring, he readjusted his grip, so the arrow was back on the center of the neck. Releasing the bowstring on the second shot, the endal took the final arrow from his left hand, placed bowstring, readjusted his aim back to the badger ribcage, and released his bowstring on the third shot. The endal lowered his short bow, and he saw that each arrow hit their intended targets accept for the third shot that hit near the hip of the badger.

Turrin smiled with satisfaction that he might have figured out a good technique to quickly fire multiple arrows quickly. Turrin knew that he needed to work on his accuracy on hitting smaller targets like small game. It was easy to hit a target that was about the size a deer or wolf, but what if he needed to disable a hand, foot, or eye of a humanoid enemy. The myrian flagged down a dek and said in broken Nari to the servant, “Dek. You get more arrows for me. Going to human targets. Be quick. Hurry!”

Turrin picked up his equipment and walked down to the area with the humanoid dummies of armored opponents, enemies on horse back, and humanoid enemies armed with two handed wooden weapons, one handed weapons with shields, and duel handed weapons. They even had targets specially made to look like Zith, Dhani, and symenestra. Turrin found these target were essential to finding out ways to take down outsides and enemies to Wind Reach. When the Dek came back with the arrows, Turrin reward the Dek with a smile and said softly in Nari, “You are quick, Dek. Thank you for hustle...” The endal took the bundles of arrows from the dek and placed them into his quiver. He knew this next round will not be a speed round because he needed to find ways of hitting vital areas of the body. Meaning, he would be focusing on accuracy over speed.

Learning How to Shoot like a Master (Turrin)

Walking to the firing line, Turrin golden eyes fell upon a Zith target. The myrian looked at the target and noticed the replica for the monster looked like the monster was landing for a attack. The claws were out poised for attack while the wings were spread wide. Taking out two broad tipped practiced arrows, Turrin held one the shaft of the arrow by the feather end, so he didn't cut himself on the sharp arrow head. He placed the second arrow on the bowstring and looked up at his target. Lifting the short bow, the endal lined it up the metal tip of the arrow with the right claw, pulled back the bowstring to his cheek, readjusted his aim, and released the bowstring in one fluid motion. Turrin moved his aim to the left claw, pulled the arrow from his left hand on the shaft with his right hand, and placed it on the bowstring. Pulling back the bowstring, the endal readjusted his shot and released the bowstring. The endal kept his arm up till the arrow plunged deep into the wooden replica. He was satisfied that he was able to hit both claws if it was a real battle with a Zith. It wouldn't be able to use his or her clawed hands in battle.

Looking at the next target, the endal saw a armored horse rider with metal breast plate, wooden sword his right hand, left hand and side was protected by a large shield. The piece of armor only covered the back and the front of the rider. The rider also worn metal cuisse on his upper legs and thighs and greave protected the area of the leg from the knee to the top of the foot. On his arms, the metal gauntlet went up his forearm to his elbow. The helmet the man was were covered his head and face, but it exposed his neck to attack. Also, they didn't make any shoulder armor for him, so his upper arm was exposed for the endal to shot at too. Retrieving a arrow from his quiver, the endal placed the arrow on the bowstring and lifted his short bow till he lined up the metal tip of arrow with the exposed bicep of the rider. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, the endal readjusted back to his target and released the bowstring. Turrin watched the arrow sail through the air and shattered on breast plate protecting his the side of the abdomen by the arm. The endal missed by few inches, but he was aiming at a small target, so he was bound to miss it.

Placing a arrow on his bowstring, Turrin placed his arrow at the bowstring and took aim at the exposed bicep once again. The endal pulled back the bowstring, readjusted his aim back to the bicep, took a shallow breath to calm his mind. Exhaling softly, the endal released the bowstring, and watched as the arrow flew straight towards the muscle of the warrior. When it plunged into the exposed arm, the endal knew that the rider would have a tough time lifting his arm to attack with his sword with a arrow in his arm. Taking another arrow from his quiver, Turrin took arm at the exposed neck of the rider this was tough shot because he had to be perfect because there was armor protecting his head and the top of his chest. It only left a few inches to hit the target. Placing the bowstring, Turrin lifted his bow till the metal tip of the arrow lined up with the center of the rider's exposed neck. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, Turrin took a shallow breath and readjusted his aim back to the exposed neck. On the exhale, the endal released the bowstring and watched the arrow fly towards the target. However, the arrow must have dropped a few inches because it dropped a few inches and shattered on the breastplate just under the neckline.

Frowning at his disappointing shot, Turin retrieved another arrow, placed it on the bowstring, and took aim at the the neck once again. If he missed this shot, the endal would come back and continue shooting a different day. Lifting the short bow, he lined up the tip of the metal arrow with the exposed neck of the replica. Pulling back the bowstring to his cheek, the endal readjusted his shot back to the original target and released the bowstring. The myrian watched the arrow fly towards the target, but the arrow must of caught some air because the arrow started to lift and shattered on the metal face plate of the helmet. Turrin lowered the short bow and said to himself, “These last few shots are making me question my choices in life. Maybe I should get something to eat. I hope their making something decent today in the kitchen.” Deciding to call it a day, Turrin left the rest of the practice arrows in the shooting stall for the next person, left the shooting range, and made his way to the kitchen.
