Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

88th of Spring 515AV, at Dusk

Elise put his mug of ale down with a worried smile. The sun was burning hotter every day. With little else on his mind, Timothy had decided to pay Caelum a visit. A question ached in his heart and he’d finally mustered the courage to enter Alements and ask it. Almost to his relief, the bartender wasn’t present. “Thanks,” he mumbled, eyes tracing after Elise’s swaying hips.

Ale, he had uncovered halfway through Spring, was like distilled courage, and he required plenty. Hopefully the Ethaefal would come today or he would be wasting precious coin on liquid bravery. It tasted a bit better than the sample he’d had in the Rat Hole but was still bitter to his tongue. Determined not to make a fool of himself he took cautious sips and only wrinkled his nose when he was sure no one was looking.

Seated criss-cross in one of the cushy armchairs, Timothy closed his eyes for a moment and let the gentle murmuring and caressing sun tickle his senses. At times like these he was happy. He had met nice people in Riverfall and was no longer ordered about. Freedom, food, drinks, he had it all, and yet…

None of them, however well-intending, could replace his mother –the only real family he had known- or what few friends he had made in Sunberth. He closed his eyes even further, afraid that the water lingering therein would have Elise come over to him if he opened them. For all intents and purposes fate had dealt him a good hand, he was better fed and clothed than ever before, and yet he was still hungry for more.

Riverfall wasn’t his home, the Akalak weren’t his people. Kavala and all the others he had met so far were simply too busy, too concerned with the world to give him the time of day. It was impossible to blame them. They hadn’t asked for him. The same dreadful uselessness he’d felt during Winter started to wash over him.

If only he had a purpose. Something to wake up for in the morning. His eyes fluttered open. The half-filled mug of ale had lost all its appeal. Perhaps it was best to go.

Evalin sighed as she scrubbed the red from her skin with a no longer clean cloth. Each day at this job proved to be just as messy as the last, but then when one's job was to examine corpses and other tasks liken to it what else could one expect? It was annoying for certain, but it could not be helped. So she made due, using the water dish newly filled to moisten the towel once more and scrub. She scrubbed every inch of her pale arms, and beneath the black nails that curved like claws more than actual nails. She still wore the white apron over herself, but once she was content with the state of her skin she quickly disposed of the apron and took up her black cloak to drape it over her shoulders instead. As usual she wore her long black robes and boots, and with cloak dawned she pulled up her hood to hide from the looks of the world, gazing out instead with eyes of red and a discernible lack of interest to anything and everyone around her. Then, staff in hand, Evalin made her way out from the medical area of the Alements, coming around the edge of the bar and pausing to look around the room.

"I see, per usual, he is not present when needed..." Evalin whispered and sighed, pulling the hood lower and looking sideways at the person behind the bar, "Tell Caelum I have gone out for the evening to take care of some business. If he requires me he may find me come morning at the usual place."

Barely a glance was spared at the rest of the tavern and those present, though her eyes did pause briefly on a child far to young to drink in this place alone, but just as quickly those points of red moved on and the Immortal was already making her way out into the darkening streets, setting off with purpose down toward the port, the sound of her staff on the stones preceding her.

Wretched Aura: As a Wretched One Evalin possesses an unnatural aura about her that causes unease in those who get too close. It can come as a prickle of the hair on the back of the neck, a sense of 'wrongness' about her. How people experience it is different depending on their personality and how they handle the unnatural and unknown. Animals tend to become more agitated, more easily sensing how wrong Evalin is and often avoiding contact with her.

[Alements] Purpose (Evalin)

Timothy stood up just before a stranger wandered in. Robes dark as the night draped around her form and a metallic scent impregnated the air around her. No sooner than his eyes settled upon her, the hairs in the nape of his neck stood on end, as if she’d brought some cold, vile wind with her. While he had planned to head back to The Sanctuary, he now lingered at his table, eavesdropping on the brief conversation between the newcomer and Elise. Going back to The Sanctuary meant going back to bed, he didn't even want to think about it. Besides, this could be like an adventure, and it had been far too long since he'd had one.

At the mention of Caelum, his eyes flitted back to the pale woman. He knew it was rude to stare, but he couldn’t tear his gaze from her so easily. Curiosity tickled his innards. Why does she walk with a staff? Is she a traveler? And why is she looking for Caelum? Her blood-red flitting over him only made him wonder more.

Flipping a coin at Elise, Timothy departed Alements a few ticks after the stranger. Elise’s eyes pried into his back, but he ignored her. Her ability to tell when he was up to no good was uncanny really, which was why he preferred seeing Caelum behind the bar.

Outside the air was pleasantly cool. Twilight was settling and a light breeze played with his hair. The sound of the woman’s staff was unmistakable, and he quietly followed her at a distance. Again, the feeling that this woman was dangerous like an untamed beast, washed over him. Again he ignored it. Why would Caelum do business with someone like that? he wondered. Once now, Caelum had entrusted him to carry an encrypted letter to a hidden location. Had the letter been for her? Was Caelum in love with this woman? The thought made him smirk.

For a few more chimes he followed her. The sunlight was dimming but his impatience was mounting. After the woman rounded a corner, he could no longer contain himself. Emboldened by the alcohol in his veins, he caught up with the dark one and marched at her side.

“D’you really need a walking stick?” he informed casually, brows settling into a curious frown. “You don’t look that old to me…your eyes a pretty badass though…what race are you?” There was a slight panting in his voice, betraying his nervousness.
