Richard cracked his neck with a satisfied groan as he strolled into Tavish's office. He was undoubtedly going to have to watch his back for a long while afterwards, but honestly, hearing the pompous pig squeal was worth it. Alice floated off to the side, giggling at her oppressor's pain with a mean grin on her face. "Coulda done this the easy way, Tavish." Richard said glibly as he squatted over the man's head. The slaver glared at him, though he knew better than to talk back in his current position. "File." Tavish groaned after a few ticks of angry silence. "Desk. Key." He pointed out the things in the office and on his person as he named them. "Thanks." Richard said faux-sweetly as he plucked the key from Tavish, retrieved the file in question, and pocketed the relevant page. "You don't mind if we collect our payment now, do ya Tavish? Yeah, I didn't think so." Richard purred without letting him answer, casually exploring the office and its things. When he reached the slaver's collection of alcohol, he couldn't resist taking a dig through. "Honeyed gin... Honeyed rum... Honeyed cognac..." he muttered to himself, disappointed. When he reached a frosted green bottle and turned it to read the label, he raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Absinthe? Huh..." The Spiritist stood and slipped the bottle into his coat. "It all right with you if we add it to our fee, Tavish?" Richard simpered mockingly as he sauntered to the safe and withdrew the amount they were owed, along with a couple mizas extra. "A'ight, let's beat it." Richard said as he flicked a gold Miza in Thaloyss' direction and made for the exit. "We'll send you a letter when the problem's been dealt with." "You seriously think... You can get away with this?" Tavish wheezed. "Do you even know who you're messing with?" Richard stopped in the office doorway, his back to the businessman. "Tavish." he said icily without turning, "I'm one of the only Spiritists in the city. I even think I see you or yours trying to petch with us, and you'll have way more than the girls haunting up the joint. Y'ever heard a Lenny the Spook? Hope ya don't. Have a nice day." Of course, all of this was a total bluff. In truth, Lenny the Spook hadn't spooked anyone in close to a decade, and Jebediah could probably be bribed, but in Sunberth you had as much power as you could convince people to give you, and Richard needed to sound powerful. With his "convincing" done, he beckoned Thaloyss follow with his head and left the Muted Maiden. "Okay, let's get the heck outta here before his friends find out what just happened." he muttered tensely, blinking to adjust to the sun and scanning the streets like a prisoner on the lam. Once he was sure they weren't about to be jumped by arms thugs, he straightened up and grinned at Thaloyss. "Ya did good, partner. Y'ever try absinthe before? I think it's supposed to be the good stuff." |
