History
Shakune's mother was a young woman when she met the Svefra who would father her child. Kinsha was seventeen years old. Richard Whitewater was fifteen years her senior. They met in Zeltiva; she a wide-eyed young traveller and he a well-seasoned sailor with a taste for foreign women. The romance was short lived, lasting all of one season. By the time the season changed, Shakune's mother found herself returned to Zeltiva, utterly devastated and very, very pregnant. She adamantly refused to return to the desert for fear of disappointing her family - and bruising her pride.
Upon Shakune's birth, Kinsha immediately resented her for what the black-eyed baby represented: her girlish stupidity, her lost naivety and innocence. Their mother-and-baby bond was severed before it could truly flourish. It became all the most tense as Shakune grew up and began asking questions about her father. The young half-breed also began to develop traits that were painfully and undeniably Svefra-like. She adored the water and showed an early interest in sailing and ships. For Kinsha, such enthusiasm and lust for life only reminded her further of the man who had blackened her heart.
Slowly, Kinsha's bitterness began to engulf her. She withdrew even further away from her daughter, throwing herself into a drug addiction and prostitution. During their final three years together, Kinsha attached more love her drugs than she ever had to her daughter. Shakune matured quickly, growing independent and self-sufficient from a young age. But childish innocence and hope kept the girl optimistic, and she continually forgave her mother for Kinsha's constant neglect.
In 502AV, Shakune met a man called Pa Salt. He was the silver-haired captain of a ship named the Lady Luck. After explaining that he had an eye for finding those in need, he asked Shakune whether she would like to jon his crew and escape from her mother and Zeltiva. The young girl, now a teenager and thus more aware of the lack of affection between her and her mother, accepted his offer. Shakune left on the 13th Spring.
For Shakune, departing from her mother's misery promised many things: freedom, excitement, opportunities. The crew of The Lady Luck were a rag-tag group of men and women who all seemed to be avoiding some circumstance of life. Over the years, the crew changed as individuals continuously boarded and disembarked the ship, but Pa Salt remained the single fixed entity in Shakune's life. In turn, he came to appreciate the young mongrel as if she were his own daughter. Their relationship was one of a deep affection, both having previously lost what they found in each other; a father, a daughter, a companion.
It was in the Summer of 512AV that The Lady Luck docked at Sunberth (Pa Salt's place of birth, and for this reason, Shakune's favourite city) for the final time. The following morning after docking, each member of the crew received an equal share of the last remaining profits of Pa Salt's business dealings. Whilst trying to figure out where these riches had come from, Shakune and her crewmates realised that both Pa Salt and theLady Luck had both disappeared. The only answer they could muster was that the old man had finally died.
Shakune was emersed in grief. She remained in Sunberth; the bereavement that she felt was far too great for her to ever consider leaving the city, despite her immediate desire to disappear from the world. The rest of the crew slowly dissolved away, some returning to the sea with a new crew and others travelling across land.
Since then, Shakune has remained in Sunberth. The city matches her rough and ready nature, and in truth she still finds it difficult to even consider leaving Pa Salt's place of birth. Having taken up employment as a courier, she hopes to one day run her own business and have her own ship.

Appearance
Despite being only half-, Shakune is very often mistaken for being a full blooded Chaktawe. She is long of limb, with coppery skin that instantly makes one think of the blistering heat. Of course, the most obvious trait of her maternal heritage are those endless black eyes that appear to observe whatever has captured Shakune's attention unblinkingly.
The sharpness of her jawline and breadth of her shoulders are traits that Shakune inherited from the unknown Svefra who fathered her. The way she holds herself, and her general psychology and manner, are also shared amongst sailors and the like.
Due to her mixed blood, the strange abilities of the Chaktawen people are lessened in Shakune. Her fingertips are not as accurate in sensing changes in pressure or movement; she can certainly confirm that something is happening, just not what or where it is. Her feet are webbed, which she finds useful for swimming.

Psychology
By and large, Shakune is a businesswoman. She's shrewd, tight-fisted and incredibly driven. For these reasons, the woman has made it her life's mission to own and run a successful courier company. Starting with Sunberth, she hopes to take No Questions Couriers and expand across the lands, driving commerce and fuelling business between the cities and people. Almost all of her actions and thoughts are completed with business in mind. Thus, it's never particularly easy to guess what Shakune's intentions are. Is she buying you that pint out of the goodness of her heart, or to secure your loyal business? Either way, she's come to appreciate the need to be familiar with her clientele. For that reason, the brand No Questions Couriers has become pretty well established within Sunberth, identified by it's black-eyed business owner.
She's a woman usually found laughing, be it at a joke or something more serious. Shakune has the uncanny ability to find humour in even the most dire of circumstances. Of course it's nothing more than a coping mechanism - but that smile can be pretty convincing at times. It could therefore be said that she manages to find the silver lining behind even the darkest of clouds. Equally, though, others believe her sense of humour is sick or perverse. But in truth, she means no harm; to Shakune, there is no better medicine than laughter.
'A little rough around the edges' is probably the most common phrase used to describe the half-breed. There are no airs or graces about the courier, who sees no problem with sharing the company of rowdy sailors or petty criminals. She holds no judgement against others - in the city of Sunberth, it is only natural to do what one must to survive. She will happily share a slurred conversation with a thief over a few pints. Because of this, she often finds herself the target of conmen or pickpockets. She places little importance on material things, however, and to Shakune it is better to have a good time than it is to have nice belongings.
Despite her roughness, the woman's morals are surprisingly solid. She despises drug use, child neglect/abuse and slavery. Whilst she knows she cannot help all individuals haunted by such problems, Shakune will actively go out of her way to defend those she feels deserves her aid. The slave girl Havzi, and the ghost of a long-dead woman named Bridie have both recently reminded Shakune of the importance of such ethics. In the back of Shakune's mind, there exists an establishment much like the one owned by the sailor who once saved her. It is fronted by a very-real, very-profitable courier company. But the employees of this business are all runaways and lost individuals who have been chased or beaten out of their previous lives. They come and go as and when they need, earning their own wages for as long as they reside under Shakune's roof.
Whether such an establishment is possible to exist in Sunberth remains to be unseen. But for the meantime, Shakune is dedicated to creating it.
