Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[Seasonal Event] A Pair of Gilded Antlers

Coming back from the angle, Euchse drew in her wings as her speed increased. She interrupted a spearman who had a clear shot at the Elk. Using her good claw, she came back around, grabbing the spear and forcefully removing it from the man. What she didn't realize was that the short struggle was merely a distraction.
During her struggle with the dog, other hunters saw that she was injured. They figured if they journeyed out here, they should at least get one trophy kill. It was useless to spend days upon weeks if it turned up fruitless. Even if the objective was for the mammal, a fowl such as a crane was an interesting catch, no less.

After the man ran off, Euchse felt a little proud, as if her own presence was terrifying. She was about to turn back until a net came out of nowhere. It caught Euchse by surprise, and the bolas at the end of the net added to the dragging weight. It toppled her to the ground, and her wings flapped and fluttered uselessly as she struggled to get it off.
She could transform, but not here! Dear Lisirra, if Alchor's son saw that, it might confuse him! He could find her a threat, and then she'd only be adding to the issues present. So, in her crane form she remained, struggling for nothing as a hunter gathered up the weighted ends.

[Seasonal Event] A Pair of Gilded Antlers

Postby Merevaika on September 7th, 2015, 9:26 pm

The crane was caught, wings flapping, struggling while the hunter gathered the net. Merevaika looked at her, not knowing what to do. Sure, she could fight the hunter, but at what consequence? The crane was right in the way, and a creature like her could easily get hurt. But it didn't matter.

Piece by piece, fragments of this world seemed to shift, fading or darkening, disappearing from sight. The net which the bird was caught in disintegrated, and the hunter flew up into the air in millions of fragments, loosing all sense of shape and form until they were just a cloud of particles, joined by the other hunters, the dogs, the weapons. Grass faded, plants exploded, and Merevaika and her companions were left: Alcor's son, the man and the crane, suspended on nothing as the ground beneath them disappeared.

"Thank you." The words were clear and bold, striking hard in the minds of all three, and the elk turned and ran, the great beast thundering across nothing, disappearing slowly into the distance.

They found themselves back by the gates of Riverfall, the crane and man standing several metres from where Merevaika lay, next to the gilded antlers. Almost as if nothing had happened.

But something most definitely had.

Her clothes lay in tatters on the floor, but she put them on anyway, glad that they still covered her fairly well. Well enough, anyway. She shuffled her way to Eryunt, putting her cloak on top just in case, a little hot in it, but glad for the slightly cooler weather the past few days.

And her leg ached, sore and stinging. Through the rips in her trousers, she saw the arrow wounds, deep and red, although the blood had already started to dry. She ripped off the bottom section of her trousers,
not caring about the clothing anymore, and started to bind the wounds, spitting on them to clean them a little.

They started glowing.

If it wasn't her own skin, she would have jumped back with fear, but there was no way of getting away from it. All she did was watch as slowly a tattoo covered the wounds, a tattoo of a pair of gilded antlers. Just like the ones lying next to her.

No, not just like them. They no longer had the gold shine to her, although it was certain that they did to the others. Perhaps her ordeal was over, but theirs... theirs had just begun.

Additional Comments: I hope these grades are adequate! This was an enjoyable thread, which I thought was neatly concluded even if it was a little short. The story was very beautiful. Good work.
