Early Morning of the 81st Day of Summer
Exhausted from flying and running around earlier, Keyta takes to her human form on the streets of Ravok. Slightly frightened, the naked child takes to the shadows and watches and listens as carefully as she can, making sure no one will see her before she can get back to her home. Keyta thinks about how she would like to not upset her parents by having someone return her without any clothes on, since they had asked before that she stay clothed in public. The Kelvic takes a right, followed by another right, and then a left, aimlessly taking corners trying to figure her way through the confusing roads, til she finds herself in front of a stand of fruits left alone in the dark. She takes a glance at the fruits and picks up one of the oranges in the middle, sinking her teeth into it and forgetting about trying to stay hidden while she continues to wander about the dark streets. Keyta winces when she manages to hear footsteps, and takes a quick step to the right, hidding in the shadows against a building, listening to each of the steps, and finally hearing two distinct breaths.
One man emerges around a corner, holding something hidden under his cloak he wore, breath heavy, and face almost scary to look at. The man notices Keyta’s pale skin in the shadow and grabs hold of her, holding her in front of him but hidding behind the little girl, waiting for the other man to turn the corner. Suddenly another man, much larger man, turns the corner and stops when he sees the naked child in front of the coward. The large man in front of Keyta was holding two sepparate meat cleavers, and a white apron, apparantly he was a cook, but he looked to menacing to be a good cook. “Let the girl go!” a booming voice called out, coming from the man with the apron, still stand straight up, studding both the girl and the man holding onto the girl.
“Not a chance!” he called out from behind, gripping onto her arm tighter, making the Kelvic flinch slightly. Keyta tried to look over her shoulder at the man behind her but instead felt a sharp pain around her arm and she turned her head quickly back around.
“You have two options!” the large man called out, hoping to make the other man at the least loosen his grip, “One, you kill the girl and I kill you.” Keyta’s eyes opened wide, she began to sqirm when she learned her life was now in danger, she didn’t wish to be in the middle of this dispute. “Two!” he called back out, catching her attention, “you release the girl, and the bag, and I let you walk.”
The man hidding behind Keyta chuckled and yelled out from behind her, “So, those are my only options you say? What happens if I just simply kill you?” The little Kelvic knew this was about to get very dangerous, so she started to carefully look around, trying to find a place to hide, but not with much luck.
“You think I would let you kill me?” the large cook called out, studying the locations her eyes went. He looked at both of them, knowing that the coward behind her was only trying to use the inncents of this girl to stop his persuit. This man was the butcher of a store that sold fine meats, and the reason he had chanced this man down was he had tried to slip a bag of coin out from behind him. Not so easily fooled, he gave chance to this man, hoping to just receive his well earned coin and return to his home for a well night’s sleep. Finding himself in a bit of a hold up, he hoped the girl would find a way to break his grip, or at least stay out of the way if things happened.
Keyta felt the man behind her tugging at her, forcing her to take steps backwards, and began to panic, looking forward to the larger man, hoping her would save her from the creep. She noticed he had already started walking forward, patiently waiting for something, not rushing into the fight, watching her very closely. Keyta’s heart raced as she frantically looked around, trying to find a way to break the grip on her arm, throbbing in pain. She takes notice to a light post, they were almost to it, she looks back at the man and he notices it as well, so he stops moving and waits just a second longer. Suddenly he thrusts himself forward, pounding his feet into the ground, scaring the man behind her, making his jump back, Keyta grabs hold of the post and pulls herself to it, out of the grip of the crazed man. The man with the apron raised one of his knives, and when he got close enough, thrusted his arm down, cutting clear through one arm that was held up in a petty defence, and into the head of this other man. He pulled his knive out of his head and the man fell to the ground, revealing the bag that he had hidden in his cloak. The butcher pulled the man against the wall, pulled his hood over his head to hide the wound and his face. He then took hold of his bag and spilled coin into his hand, counting them out, when he seemed to count them all, he took hold of the dead man again and started looking through his stuff as well. He pulled out several bags, all in different colors, and each seemed to be filled with something different from the last.
“The names Kelack, sorry for earlier miss,” the man said to Keyta, collecting all of the bags together, looking over to her. “I won’t ask why you aren’t clothed as long as you promise not to speak of this to anyone little miss,” he insured. Keyta looked at him, nodded her head, and took notice to all of the bags that he was claiming. Kelack checked a couple of them before he tossed one in her direction, “This one’s your’s.” The man known as Kelack stood up, bowed, and left into the darkness, Keyta finally let go of the light post and reached down grabbing the small bulky bag he gave her. When she opened it, she discovered three small rocks that glittered just like the stars above her did. Her mouth gaped open and she quickly looked up to thank the man, but he had already dissappeared, so she tied the bag back up and started running down the streets, hoping to find her home and admire the stars for a while. |
