Of Rocks & Minerals

The day before Tokia promised Savacea that she would tell her about Minerals and Rocks and how they dealt with Poison. She knew the family vaguely, but needed further insight on the topic to utilize what she did know. The Myrian woman seemed a bit interested in the poison that came from her fangs. Symenestra had a potent venom that worked similar to that of stomach acid. She was a bit nervous to exchange this information with the older woman, but did not want to disrespect it and really wanted to learn more in crafting poisons so she yielded to her demand.

She entered the cottage, making her way to the back that Tokia showed her yesterday. She smelled a faint mint aroma, noting that Tokia obviously finished the poison treat she was planning to make yesterday. She did not wait long before the old Myrian woman came to the work area, First things first tell me about that venom of yours, eh? Her wrinkled face came closer to Savacea and she glared coldly at her. She did not like having her personal bubble penetrated by others. She took a small step back, giving the woman a cold smile.

"The venom dispensed from my fangs works like stomach acid, it breaks down organic structures into a liquid. My fangs will let out an agent that will relax the body of my prey, before the insides turn to moosh. The longer we go with out eating the more fatal it is." Savacea explained to the older woman, who nodded her head obviously happy about what she just learned.

She did not speak for a few moments as she bustled about the work space, then she brought Savacea a book. She was not sure where exactly Tokia found the book, but her organization was a bit chaotic anyway so she did not inquire about how she came to find it or where it was exactly.

Read this book and let me know if you have any questions. It has different types of poison in it, but on the fifty-second page you will find the information about rocks and minerals, and how they can be applied to poisons. I have to get back to the front for now. Tokia left after she finished telling Savacea about the book and needing to get back to the front before she could complain that she did not want to read the book.

Savacea gave a low growl of frustration, before sitting down at the work table, opening up the tattered looking book and exploring the secrets it held with in it. She flipped to the page Tokia suggested to her, and started her quest for knowledge on crafting poisons.

Of Rocks and Minerals: Page 1

Bismuth

Bismuth is a mineral that is uncommon but can be found near high heat areas, it is igneous and metamorphic. The mineral is a dark Grey in color, although can be black as well and rarely in a light pink. The rarest of Bismuth will have a stair case like structure and be a prism of multiple colors. The mineral is flaky and easily falls apart, the toxicity is low.

To form into a poison one will take the Bismuth and grind it into a very fine powder. This poison will affect the organs: Kidney, Liver, and Bladder, making a line near the navel that will be black. This is known as the Bismuth Line. The effects of this poison can lead to skin and respiratory irritation, as well as severe constipation. It is not fatal to an individual though discomfort will occur.

Coloradoite

Coloradoite is a crystallized mineral that contains mercury telluride, it is extremely toxic and rare. Found among high heat areas in Mizahar this mineral is highly toxic, if not handled properly one has a high risk of being poisoned simply from touching the mineral. When heated it will release a deadly vapor as well as dust.

Poison Crafters should handle with caution when dealing with this mineral as it has a HIGH toxicity and can be fatal if not properly handled. Wearing gloves as well as a mask it can be grounded into a powder, sprinkled on someone's bed, and they will be poisoned as the fine powder will penetrate the skin.

Hutchinsonite

Hutchinsonite contains a thick, greasy metal called Thallium. This mineral is deadly, although uncommon, and should only be handled with gloves as skin contact will leave one poisoned. Hutchinsonite causes the loss of hair and other serious illnesses, as well as death. This mineral does not only contain Thallium but it also has arsenic as well as lead, causing a poisonous cocktail. This deadly mineral can be found in mountainous regions of Mizahar.

In Poison Crafting one should proceed with caution as this mineral is deadly. Always wear gloves and a mask when ever dealing with the mineral. It can be ground into a powder, though heating the mineral is not recommended.

Galena

This mineral is a lead based one, that can be found in various mines in Mizahar. Galena is highly brittle and reactive to chemicals. It is somewhat toxic as coming into contact with the dust will cause lead poisoning, miners are more susceptible to this exposure as it is so brittle and breaks easily into a dust form upon contact.

Gloves and masks are suggested for the crafter of poisons, as it is brittle and can form dust so easily. Infusing water with the powder of Galena would be the best route for the crafter, ingestion or injection recommended.

Arsenopyrite

This mineral is a type of arsenic iron sulfide, one would want to handle this with gloves on, because once touching the surface and then a orifice will lead to poison. Arsenopyrite looks similar to fools gold and can be detected with a small hit of a hammer, as it will release a garlic like vapor, though be wary as the vapors are toxic.

The crafter should never heat this mineral, altering it is also very dangerous and precaution should always be made when dealing with it. Wear gloves and a mask when crafting with this mineral.

Chalcanthite

Chalcanthite crysals are famous for killing ponds vegetation like algae. This mineral contains copper, although the body does need this if there is an excess of copper it turns toxic. This mineral is water souluble and can kill as well as weaken plants and animals. Chalcanthite shuts down the body's processes and one can over dose on copper if consumed in excessive quantities.

The Poison Crafter can handle this mineral, though one should wear gloves to be on the safe side. This mineral can be heated or ground into a powder, the poison crafter can then decide of how to deliver the poison.

Tobernite

Though this mineral is beautiful, it is toxic. Tobernite is composed of Uranium and is radioactive emitting radon gas that can form cancer. Can be found in mountains of Mizahar and is uncommon, gloves and masks are recommended for cultivating.

This can be given as a gift to someone who does not understand the effects of the stone. Once placed on the person or in the home, it will emit the fumes and slowly poison them.

Erionite

This mineral occurs in volcanic ash and is in the group of zeolites of minerals. The toxicity of this mineral is highly toxic, as it will cause mesothelioma (lung/respiratory problems) as well as cancer.
The crafter can heat or grind this mineral and choose the deliver method that suits them best.

Cinnabar

Cinnabar is a highly toxic mineral and should always be handled with gloves and a mask. This mineral contains mercury and when oxidized will produce methyl mercury and dimethyl mercury. This two compounds will cause harm to the nervous system that can rarely be healed. Cinnbar is deadly in small doses and is absorbed primarily though the respiratory tract, intestines, or even the skin. This mineral is uncommon and can be found in mountainous regions of Mizahar.

The crafter should be wary and use extreme caution when dealing with this mineral. Grinding into a powder is preferred, which then can be inhaled, ingested, or even made into a lotion that the person puts on their skin.

Realgar

Realgar is a low-temperature type of mineral that can occur hot spring deposits as well. Lead, Silver, and Gold ores can commonly be found with this mineral. While held under the sunlight for long periods of time, Realgar will form into a yellow powder. Realgar is a byproduct of arsenic and is poisonous, commonly used to dispose of rodents in the home. Also can kill weeds, insects, and can be used in leather crafting to remove animal fur from the pelts as it is carcinogenic. This mineral can also be made into a red pigment for painting, although it is toxic. Can be found in the ground around other rocks, anywhere dark and away from sunlight.

This mineral can be grind or heated and the devilry method can be what ever the poison crafter chooses.

Tremolite

Tremolite contains asbestos, which is a toxic material that if inhaled can cause respiratory and breathing problems. Tremolite ranges from white to dark green and is somewhat hard, commonly found in the gemstone jade.

Grinding and heating the powder with a mask covering the crafters face is a suggested way to use Tremolite.

Tigers Eye

A stone that is another group of asbestos, though its toxicity level is low and usually worn to décor the body. The beautiful stone can be found in mines and mountainous regions of Mizahar, though when using to craft poisons it is suggested to wear a mask as the powder will have asbestos in it and could cause respiratory complications

Moonstone
This beautiful stone that shines like the moon in the night sky is worn as jewelry. To many it is not harmful but to the crafter who knows of minerals and rocks, knows that it contains a toxic chemical called aluminum. Although aluminum is low on the toxic scale, in large doses it can cause the bone denisty to be less, alter the function of blood-brain barrier, and other minor difficultes.

The crafter can achieve a poison by using a filler with Moonstone and it can be delivered by skin contact, inhalation, and eye contact.

Mohawkite

This is a rare rock that consists of copper as well as arsenic. With a hard surface and a metallic luster, many would find it harmless. Although some wear the white quartz as jewelry, once the copper is stripped away there is only arsenic left.

Use gloves and a mask while handling Mohawkite. Grinding and using the powder to infuse in oil or water is preferred.

Wulfenite

This is a lead type mineral found as a thin tabular crystal in bright orange to yellow, though the coloring is varied. Can be found in high temperature areas near rocks, mines, or mountains. As we learned earlier, Lead is a toxin. Since Wulfenite contains lead it makes it toxic although it is lower on the scale.

Can be used to the poison crafters discretion, although it is not very poisonous and should be used with fillers.

*Note: Polished gemstones will not be as toxic, the rough fibrous gem stones how ever will have a higher toxicity. With rough gemstones one can leach out the toxins via boiling in water. Please note to use extreme caution though and wear the proper protective gear when crafting with rocks and minerals.

Applying What Was Read

Savacea soaked in the knowledge that she read in the book. It was a bit mind numbing, but definitely worth the read. She closed the book gently, yawning behind her hand. Reading always made her eyes feel heavy, it was hypnotizing in a way to roll her eyes back and forth over the words. The Symenestra rubbed at her eyes gently with her delicate hands, yawning once again then stretching her arms up in the air.

She did not have that much of a break however as Tokia came through the door, seeing that she had already about some of the Rock and Minerals in the book Tokia nodded and left again. Savacea raised her eyebrows in confusion as the old woman did not say a word but merely nodded. She was unsure as to whether to get up and follow, or stay put. Though Savacea did not have long to debate as to what to do next, as Tokia came back through the door with a big grin on her face.

Now that you have read up, why not we put you to the test? Tokia said still holding a big grin on her face. Savacea blinked a few times, mildly surprised that she was getting hands on teaching, then nodded excitedly.

Tokia then handed her a jar with a mineral inside,Tell me what this is.

Savacea observed the mineral inside its glass cage, it was black in color and appeared to be flaky and soft since little flakes of the mineral layered the bottom of the jar. She chewed on her lower lip a little, then answered, "This is the Mineral Bismuth, it has a low toxicity to it and I must grind it into a powder?" She answered in a questioning way, looking into the woman's eyes.

Tokia rolled her eyes, Why are you asking me when that is exactly right? Now, take it and grind it with the mortar and pestle. Savacea gave a half smile, as she grabbed the mortar and pestle. She took the jar and carefully poured the contents of the Bismuth into the mortar, and began to grind with the pestle. The mineral fell apart easily under the pestle, she only had to grind for a few moments before a fine powder was formed. She then picked up a vial and gently poured the powder into it, topping it off with a cork and handing it to Tokia.

Tokia took the vial and looked at Savacea, Good job. Now tell me what this will cause.

Savacea thought back for a moment to what she just read and replied, "Uhm.. Respirotory and skin irritation... She paused for a moment, Oh and constipation and it is not fatal!" She exclaimed proud of herself.

Tokia nodded, Exactly, alright I will be back with your next assignment. She took the vial off and left Savacea as she waited impatiently for what she was going to craft next.

The old Myrian woman came back soon enough, and in a pouch she had a the rock Limestone and the mineral Olivine. She handed Tokia some gloves and a mask, When dealing with more toxic minerals that has to be put in the mortar, you will want to cover your mouth and nose so you do not inhale the fine powder as you grind it. Now tell me what these two things are and what they are used for.

Tokia did not put this in question form, but rather in a demanding way. The woman was fierce even if she was old and Savacea grinned at the way she spoke. She rather liked it, all niceties put aside as they discussed business. Savacea thought for a little while going back to what she had just read, "Uhm..This is the mineral Arsenopyrite, it is highly toxic but has to be supplemented with other poison to be fatal..as it contains arsenic. It releases toxic vapors..so..that is why I am wearing a mask and gloves as well as you."

Savacea turned to the other thing she brought, it was rock and not a mineral it was rough, hard, and had a brilliant orange brown color. "This is Tigers Eye it is used as a filler for other poisons, as it is not very toxic...and..uhm..oh! It contains asbestos." Savacea replied scrunching her nose at the stone. Tokia nodded then handed her a mallet.

Now you will combine these to make a poison She said simply turning and leaving Savacea to do the work. She sighed, she really liked people to learn hands on, realize their mistakes themselves and apply the new knowledge.

Savacea turned to the flat and smooth work table before, taking the Tigers Eye first, she hit it with a mallet as it was a little hard and grinding it with the pestle would not work. Once she had it broken into smaller pieces that were softer, she placed them in the mortar and proceeded to twist the pestle to grind it down to a fine powder. This took longer then with softer minerals and rocks Savacea realized as she kept grinding away at the rough Tigers Eye. It finally gave way as it crumbled under the constant grinding, then she was able to make it into a fine powder. Once it was in a powder form she poured it carefully into a vial and placed the vial to the side.

She secured her face mask, put the gloves on Tokia gave her, picked up the Arsenopyrite, it started crumbling in her hand so she quickly placed the mortar under it, it was not brittle just flaky, with a gold like color. She placed the rest in gently, grinding with the pestle in softer strokes and it turned into a fine powder instantly. She placed the powder in a vial and set it to the side as well. She took off the gloves and went to the shelf that had various things on it to assist in the crafting of poisons. She found some mushrooms grinded up into a fine powder in a vial. It was labeled as a fungus called "Capped Shrooms" that was not very toxic.

She brought the vial over to the others and sat it down, she put the gloves back, and the face mask on, then poured each vial back into the mortar. She took the pestle to grind them together softly. Once she was satisfied with the mixture she took a small jar to put the contents in it. Savacea grabbed a towel and started cleaning the work station putting the mortar and pestle in a pot over the hearth to clean in the hot water. After she was done cleaning the station, she removed the gloves and mask, setting them to the side to be washed, and went to the basin to clean her hands.

After she was done with all this Tokia returned with out a word and looked at the small glass jar nodding her head approvingly, Yes very good idea to add the Capped Mushrooms into it. Now it will be more fatal to a person. This was easy, next time I will challenge you with something you may not know just yet. Tokia chuckled and sat the jar down, that was the end of her work for today. Savacea rarely, if ever, kept the poisons or other things she made. She let Tokia sell them so it would in a way pay for all the help and assistance she gave her.

Savacea nodded, "Is there a book on how to make a Pomade perhaps? I would like to learn how to make Pomade." Savacea asked and Tokia knowing eyes scanned her face then nodded.

There is a book on salves with a recipe for Pomade since it is practically the same thing. Next time we will go over this, but why?

Savacea did not want to tell her she wanted to make a signature poison. The Symenestra wanted to make "The Kiss of Death" which would be a poisonous pomade that when her lips met another would poison them. She would also have to develop a antidote to inject into herself when ever she wore the poison on her lips to counter the effects. Instead of all that she just simply replied, "Just interested in knowing something new is all." She replied smiling, nodding her head, "Until next time then." Savacea said raising her hand in farewell and leaving Tokia's cottage feeling a bit more confident about her abilities then she did before.

Additional Notes :
One thing I wanted to mention off the bat before I forgot is that Tokia is not what one would considered 'old'. I noticed you mentioned her having wrinkled features, but at 42 Tokia isn't even middle aged, as Myrians live nearly twice as long as most humans, just so you know for future threads :)

I would also suggest breaking up your posts a bit, and interspersing Savacea doing thing in the same post that she reads information, all of her poison work was really only in one post and the general rule of thumb is one XP per skill per post, so just keep that in mind when trying to maximize the XP you get out of a thread.

Other than that this was quite the educational thread, bug me if I missed something, there was a lot of info thrown into this so if you were looking for a more specific lores or a couple I forgot just lemme know :)

If you have any questions, concerns, accolades, complaints, etc about your grade, drop me a PM and we can most certainly talk it out.

As always, Safe Travels!
