OOCLikewise Kaik, I had lots of fun
As Kaik was carried away by the Shinya, Brandon just stood and stared blankly in response to the hate burning in the animator's eyes. If things had turned out a little different, Brandon might have given the boy a triumphant look, but now? Even if he was rid of the annoying presence of the dollmaker, he was now burdened by a Shinya guard. Even as the other guards left the building, the protector did not seem in a hurry to join them. Instead he looked at Brandon, his face stern and almost clean of any other sign of emotion. Still, there was a vague sense of disapproval to be felt when his gaze fell upon the Kelvic.
“What's the meaning of this?” Brandon asked, doing his best not to let any hint of annoyance and discontentment slip through in his voice. At the same time, he attempted to keep his expression blank. Despite his efforts though, he was quite aware just about anyone would be able to see through the ruse. “I'll be assisting you for now,” the protector declared, his brow creasing ever so slightly, “I might not be a spiritist, but my magic does allow for physical interactions with ghosts.”
And you don't want to leave me alone in here because I might cause permanent damage to the Library, Brandon's thoughts added, quite sure the Shinya was not going to risk the Bharani set aflame, even if the Kelvic had claimed it a bluff. Brandon had not been bluffing completely, but even he would think twice or more before actually going through with it. Burning down an animation studio was one thing, as was a small apartment, but the Library? Such a prominent structure destroyed by flame would be a huge loss for the city. It'd be a huge setback for all scholars in Lhavit, for the city, and even for himself. No, he couldn't just light one of the Star of Kalea's treasures on fire. Besides, even if he did do it, the Shinya would be coming for him right away, all thanks to Kaik. The bat sighed.
“There's no need,” he replied after a pause, not wanting to work with someone closely observing his every move. Kaik's presence had ruined everything before; Bran would not make the same mistake by letting a Shinya guard do the exact same thing. He didn't need anyone getting in his way. There was another reason too; the Kelvic had been monitoring Azura's position with his mark the whole time, guessing her position by analyzing the surroundings as well as the strength of her presence his mark allowed him to feel. It had come as no surprise that she'd gone to Kaik's location. That she'd spoken with him wasn't that unexpected either, and the bat had overheard everything. Due to his current situation, he grudgingly had to accept this as the best possible outcome. A compromise he wasn't happy with, but one he could at least live with. The Bharani would be rid of the ghost haunting it, and Brandon would have fulfilled the task given to him by the librarians. The task of actually getting Azura to rejoin the circle remained uncompleted though.
“Azura will leave the library to hang about her old house,” the bat stated, avoiding to use the word “live”. “And if she does return to the library to read, she'd better make sure to hide her ethereal state so nobody notices, or I will have to come for her again. Accompanied by a spiritist this time.” Brandon's words weren't addressed at the guard, but at the ghost, the last part a warning. The protector frowned, but said nothing. “Well then, I'll take my leave here. Good night to you, Shinyaman.” And he did, but the Kelvic did not head home, paranoid about being followed by the guards. Instead, he headed for the Red Lantern, as he much preferred the company of Madame Belladonna's belle donne over that of the Shinya, annoying animators, and bratty ghosts. A private room with pleasant company for a couple bells would perhaps wipe away his frustrations...
