Considered one of the most mysterious cities in Mizahar, Alvadas is called The City of Illusions. It is the home of Ionu and the notorious Inverted. This city sits on one of the main crossroads through The Region of Kalea.

42 Summer 516

Sitting at his desk, Clyde stared down at various bits of parchment, ink, quills, pots of paint, and other various detritus he'd managed to acquire in the short span of time he'd been in Alvadas. At his core a Glypher, Clyde often practiced the craft and made small items of it for his own personal use and experimentation.

That, tied in with taking down notes and such and random ideas/reminders as they occurred to him gave him a decent bit of time on most given days taken up by things involving writing. His staff Cha sat propped against the edge of the desk within easy reach, his pack lying on the ground next to his chair.

His office wasn't an overly large room, and so he'd left Rye his guard dog sitting just outside of it in the main common area, blocking the door into the retreat.

The door from outside led directly into the front common area, which had five doors leading off of it. Two on each of the opposite walls, left and right as one entered, led into the four bedrooms in the house. The door at the back wall led into his small office where he did his work, read, wrote, or took some time to be alone.

The common area also had a few simple chairs about the room, in between various doors, and at times a few paintings on the walls. Though as was common in Alvadas things didn't always stay the same, and sometimes there were certain paintings, while other times only bare walls. Other times there were other paintings, or even a window once or twice.

Should someone knock at the front door, enter, or otherwise reveal themselves, Rye would likely rise and left of a low growl, facing the sound or possible threat, and thus getting Clyde's attention.

Otherwise Clyde would likely continue on at his work, muttering to himself in between writing with a quill.

Should someone knock Clyde would likely head out into the main room, Rye at his side and Cha in his hand, to see who was at the front door, opening it to query the knocker what they wanted in the tone of a man being interrupted.

Assuming nothing happened before then or brought his attention to other things, like the feeling of magic on the air or other such threatening things.

I am actually in RL a super intelligent hamster from Rhode Island, with a 7 year plan to take over the world.

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

Graders note: :
Please be aware Clyde is a master Magecrafter. He therefore should not be gaining full xp(or possibly shouldn't gain any at all) for simple tasks related to this magic, such as low level MC items, particularly for repetitions of creations he has done before. Feel free to contact me if unsure of a instance of his magic use compared to his skill level.

Don't Trust the Eyes[Rey]

Rey had been mulling over the Sayana problem for some time now. Well, it would be more accurate to call it the Clyde problem. Anything that had Sayana running so scared was dangerous, a force to be reckoned with. And that itself was too great a lure for Rey to resist. In the end, Rey's curiosity had won out.

His first stop had been the docks, where several discreet inquiries about an Eypharian woman and her companions bore fruit. A trio had arrived some dozen days ago; An Eypharian woman, an Isur man, and a Human man. Most eyes had been fixed on Sayana, but some pointed questioning and proffered gold had gotten him a partial description.

There were hundreds of humans matching Clyde's description in Alvadas, but that was no matter. Sayana had asked for a place to stay the night, earlier. Which seemed to imply that she was staying with Clyde. He'd already sniffed around, and and found she wasn't staying in any of the inns or in the temple. So either they were staying with an existing resident, or they had bought a place of their own. Either ways, there was only one place where he could find out.

Trying to get information out of Serenity was alway a gamble, but it seemed that having to deal with the influx of pilgrims had left her distracted. Serenity already "knew" him as a courier, so all he'd had to do was forge a letter with a smudged last name, and he'd walked away with a full name and a description of the man's house.

A few discrete inquiries later, Rey stood across the street from the house he sought, considering his options. He didn't want to stay out in front for long, not while there was a chance of Sayana coming out and seeing him. Best if she had some semblance of plausible deniability. But he still had to keep an eye on any person or people inside. He'd need to be closer then.

Crossing the street, Rey slipped into the alley between the house and its neighbour, looking for some spot where he could loiter inconspicuously, before finally settling around the back of the building, out of sight of the main road.

Walls were annoying. Too thick to smell through easily, and it made everything behind it taste wobbly. Still, he had time to be thorough. Pressing his hand against the wood, he closed his eyes and mentally fixed his focus on some point beyond the wall.

As Rey had expected, the scent of wood layered itself over his auristical senses, heavy over his tongue (long dead, well fitted, swelling in the heat and humidity) as his awareness spread out (a table a man a creature paper ink canvas paint). He barely registered any of it, his attention drawn to another scent inside the house.

It was as much sensation as taste, a thick prickling over his tongue, a taste like lemon and metal, a smell like a dry thunderstorm, sending a sharp shiver down Rey's spine. It reminded him of the explosion of the Alche, but crisp and clear where the alchemical mishap had been wild and jagged.

There was wood there too, of a different sort, and he felt, rather than saw its shape. A cane, a pole, a quarterstaff, something like that, laced through and bound up with some magic, like nothing he'd ever seen before.

Eyris's eyes. Was this what Sayana had been so afraid of?

Clyde was in the middle of a diagram, mapping out a new warding, when he felt a tingle upon the air. Djed, pressing in on him. Clyde paused for a half tick, stretching and looking up at the ceiling as if in thought, letting the back of his hand casually brush against Cha and make contact with her.

As soon as he made contact Clyde slid his own aura focus into her, feeling out for the pressing djed from nearby. After a moment of sweeping his view he found it was the wall in front of him emitting the djed, or namely something beyond it.

Pressing beyond as well Clyde felt out with his aura sight, quickly finding... A hand... A hand pressed against the wall before him. The hand of a person, who when looked upon hummed with djed through the wall and about him.

Once he latched onto this aura with his own subtle tendril of sense, taking only a moment, he back tracked it to find the directionality of the djed pressing through. The sound of the djed was familiar, akin to his own use, and tied in with what he knew it to be a similar personal magic. Or at least from the various ones he knew it seemed the most likely one. Another Aurist.

Tossing down the quill as if in annoyance, Clyde grabbed up Cha and settled her across his lap, leaning back in the chair as if continuing to concentrate on the ceiling due to some thought confounding him.

When Cha begn to hum more loudly in his aural hand, he knew the focus of the magic was upon her. Cha of course, being a rather powerful Magecrafted item, had a strong aura for a stick. Her aura, her very soul, was enhanced and enlarged due to the magics imbued into her, and so that much more easily seen.

The two of them bonded, his touch upon her, Cha and himself were twinned in purpose and intent if not truly dual-ed of soul.

Reaching back out through Cha, Clyde reversed the tendril and flowed it back at himself and onto his own aura. Coiling it around it for a few moments, Clyde got a feel for his own djed upon the air exhibited as his aura. It was straightforward enough, if not easy or simple, to focus his own djed through his aura and thereby will it to change. Like a leaf thrown into a roaring fire, the flame would momentarily burn brighter as it burst through and consumed the leaf.

With a likewise technique Clyde flared his own aura, concentrating his entire aura sight and intent upon the act. He let his djed and aura tendril loop around the edges, circling and cycling, feeding the djed in a loop. Until suddenly with a slight twist he turned, letting the djed not flow around but into the aura, thereby making it expand and flare with strength by nature of the djed poured in.

This would likely be the first thing he'd done to be auristically visible, unless the other user was another master Aurist. Even if he wasn't looking directly at his personal aura, but only at something nearby with his Aura sight, it would be blinding, the aura overwhelming and flowing past all others so as to obscure and overpower. It would be like looking at the sun just as a cloud moved out of the way, or perhaps worse.

The effect would only last a few ticks, before his aura would fade back to normal, as he didn't continue to flow djed or focus into it to sustain the change, letting it fade back to normal naturally. Of course that would be long enough to do the needed damage to anyone fool enough to be looking when it happened.

Before this he'd done nothing to show himself, nothing to show he was aware of anything going on or of the probing examination.

As his aura flared however, Clyde would leapt to his feet with Cha in his grip, and race for the door. Quick as he could he'd be out the door, out of the house, and rounding the side to head for the back wall where the offending hand and attached person lay. If he could he'd head there before they had a chance to escape, confronting them and finding out their intent and purpose before they could flee.

No one touched his aura after all, without his permission. He wasn't some copper miza tart to be ogled and handled.

Don't Trust the Eyes[Rey]

The magic layered on the wood was complicated, intricate in a way that would take some time to unravel, time Rey didn't know if he had. Even as he studied the object of his fascination, some sense of self preservation sent feelers outwards, checking for danger. Too little, too late.

The next thing Rey knew, a flare went off in his mind, somewhat like a skunk had sprayed him right in the face. Not an awful scent, but too much, far too much for him to deal with. He jerked away from the wall, letting the magic slip from his grasp, but not quick enough to avoid the brunt of the assault. Stumbling back, he clasped a hand to his nose, gasping in pain. His head throbbed, and his nose and tongue stung like a bolt of lightning had buzzed through them. There was blood in his mouth, or at least the taste of it. Wincing, Rey pulled himself together, mind racing.

A defensive mechanism, of some sort. The item? But he'd been able to study it for some time. Any magical tripwire should have gone off immediately. Which meant he'd been noticed. The flare- Rey winced as his nose began to drip blood, pulling out a scrap of cloth to dab at it - didn't seem like it had come from the staff itself. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure where it had come from. The user, perhaps, or another artifact or magic?

Rey's ear twitched at the sound of a door being flung open. Safest to assume this had been done defensively, which meant that this was the man, coming out to meet him. He was still around the corner, though, and there wasn't a human alive who could match a viper's speed.

Rey didn't move from his spot, instead straightening up and wiping off the last traces of blood from his nose. As painful as it was, this new development made things so much more interesting.

A figure rounded the corner, confirming what Rey had suspected. The description matched, though up close, the man was younger than he'd expected. And in his hand- it was a staff after all.

"Clyde Sullins, I suppose?" Rey flashed him a friendly smile, only to have the effect ruined when his throat spasmed, forcing him to turn to cough into his makeshift handkerchief. No blood, at least. He turned back to the human, tensed to turn and run if he seemed aggressive. "You're not what I expected."

Don't Trust the Eyes[Rey]

As Clyde rounded the corner, he once more reached out with an aura tendril. At almost the same time as the offending person standing behind his house came into visible mundane sight, the aura focus latched on and expanded about and around it.

Instantly Clyde knew the basics of the aura, where it was in position to himself and the twinned senses allowed by his mundane sight and smell.

Unlike his normal more sedate manner Clyde let a bit of anger and ire leak into the sedate calm of his face. He didn't, after all, want to leave any confusion as to his feelings on the intrusion.

Before he had a chance to speak however the man did, stating Clyde's name. The fact that he knew him by name clearly revealed the meeting wasn't an accident, but a seeking of someone. Why he'd felt the need to go about as he had, sneaking and trying to steal information, Clyde couldn't say.

From his stance it appeared the man was ready to act, though in what capacity- attacking or fleeing- Clyde also couldn't say. From his reaction it appeared he'd perhaps been more heavily affected than he'd expected, though he felt no regret as he was the wronged party.

“And you weren't expected at all. And yet, you as a stranger, thought it alright to invade my privacy and to spy on me? Lets not pretend that you didn't expect to be caught, thats a rather moot point. Clearly you didn't think you'd be caught.”

Eying the man, Clyde stared him down, showing and feeling no fear. Only anger tinged with curiosity.

“Which either means you think too much of your own abilities, or too little of others. Namely mine.”

“Now perhaps as you know my name you should reveal yours. Along with how you know of me, what you are doing here, and what you were trying to do before.”

As he spoke the tendril of his aura sight continued to focus on the man, slowly inching deeper into the aura. Searching. For now it was a more general searching, lower level, but once he got a better grip he'd begin to search out more specific things.

“And what you think gives you the right to invade upon my privacy.”

His words weren't spoken as questions, but more as orders or demands that he fully expected to be met.
