Sitting in the squire mess hall Alex nursed a bowl of something like porridge with some meat sprinkled through it. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t exactly great either. Then again Al was mostly just happy to be back in Syliras. With the room packed to the brim there wasn’t much room and Alex had claimed the last free table. He hunched over a little just stirring the bowl of strange stuff back and forth musing over the events of the past fifty days. Kenash was an odd and rather dark place. A different brand of darkness to Sunberth but still its own special brand of insanity.

Though coming back to Syliras in the middle of this madness wasn’t much better. A fog so thick most things had been cancelled or cut short. Even the free time of the citizens was cut down to measure the space of things. What madness was this? Glancing out the window Alex watched out over the fog slowly rolling by. When out of the corner of his eye he swore he spotted something darting at insane speed through the fog. What the heck was that!? His shocked snap backwards only a few centimetres but enough for his armour and weapons to rattle together.

Taking a few moments to close his eyes and catch his breath. Slow even breathing techniques. Mediatory ones he’s picked up to slow his nerves and settle down somewhat. This job was going to be the death of him, however if that was the case he’d prefer it be sometime much later in his life and not via heart attack from being spooked to death. It was then he heard another clatter land across the way from him. Heavy but mostly just the weight of a tray with food on it.
“Well who do I have the pleasure of sharing a table with today?” Alex asked in his usual calm and strangely soothing tone. Even as he opened his eyes he was a little taken aback by who it was.

These past few weeks have been rough on a certain squire. Not because of what was happening in Syliras, no not at all. It was her patron that was causing a bit of stress. Revy wasn't allowed to roam around alone at all anymore. Her patron was about nailed to her side. Why wasn't she allowed to have some good fun? Fighting those... things... couldn't be anything but plain old fun.

But yet here she was, stuck inside the barracks till her patron called for her, eating some kind of gooey stuff. Couldn't she have a proper breakfast for once? At least she brought the last bit of Dhani meat she had. That should fill her up a little bit better. It was unfortunately the last bit she had left from that piece of shyke back in Falyndar. Though she had been saving it for an occasion like this.

Almost throwing her tray on the last table, which another squire was having breakfast at already, she sat down. The squire in front of her looked rather familiar. Only when he started to talk, did she recognize who it was. Someone she had been avoiding for a while now. Yet now she was practically forced to be near him. "In Myri's name, why him? Couldn't it have been any other squire?", the woman thought to herself.

Her leather armour creaked a bit as she leaned over her food a bit. "Huh? What'cha want.", she replied. "Jus' gonna be havin' mah breakfast here and I'll be gone, 'kay?" The woman's tone was cold, hard and serious. She didn't want to have anything to do with him if she could help it. If he was going to try something, she could always quickly grab her shield on her back, along with her longsword or even the dagger on her back.

The figure before him was someone who he’d met just once before and seen a lot in passing. Instinctively coughing lightly to check his throat still worked he gave a small smile. Even and calm no ill intent nor ulterior motives. Sometimes crossing swords with someone was the best way to understand them. Even with the sharp sort words and her rather distant tone Alex was used to that. Extremely used to that. Well at least I know the anger wasn’t an especial direction at him. Just an omnipresent feeling of malice to everyone. The accent of her voice then struck him, and a lot of why she was always angry hit him too.
“I don’t want anything really, just thought I could perhaps hold a conversation with you. That and apologize for what happened a while ago. Y’know the whole pushing to the point of strangulation… I didn’t hear the Sunberth in your voice then like I do now.”

He paused a moment his words still light and soothing almost like a cool summers day. Trying to stem the flow of malice with a little bit of understanding and benevolence on his part. Leaning an elbow on the table and looking her over a little not for the reasons most men might. Instead he was trying to get a feel for why she was so angry all the time. Even just knowing that she was from sunberth was not enough for him to get a good grasp on the anger.
“I take it something happened that’s pissed ya off more than normal? I mean that given your forthcoming reputation as by far one of the most dangerous and avidly angry squires is well known. But I get the feeling that, there’s more too you than just anger. A reason for it at the very least.”

The woman started eating her Dhani meat first. She wanted to at least have some good stuff to eat before she had to deal with gooey stuff. Now if only she could enjoy her meal in peace. Which was something she hadn't had in a while. Usually what would happen was that her patron came by and picked her up. Often before she could even finish her breakfast.

But apparently she couldn't enjoy this meal in peace... That Faircroft guy was going all analyzing on her. Where did he get permission to go and try to figure out why this squire hated his guts? Did she tell him to figure this out? No she didn't. "Oi, you better shut the petch up. I ain't in the mood for this shyke.", she said as she drew her dagger and buried it in the table. "Jus' lemme finish my breakfast and I'll be gone, 'kay? Ain't wanting to cause an issue right now."

Her glare could kill right now. If there was a situation she wanted to never encounter, it was this particular one. A situation where someone tried to figure out why she hated someone's guts. Especially a guy who did it, could piss her off to no end. Men were just the worst creation of nature. Oh how Revy wished that creature called male didn't exist.

Alex knew he’s said something wrong the moment he caught the glint of a twist in her eye. A sparse point of anger that was just enough to let him know that he may have stepped into a territory that he didn’t fully know how to explore. As much as something in the back of his mind was telling him to just flee instead he kept seated and cleared his throat as the dagger punctured the table slightly. Instead of backing off like he was going too, that was uncalled for.
“Look I’m not trying to upset nor anger you further just trying to figure out why all the hostility? I mean it wasn’t like this when I spoke too you first off.” His words were still that level and light manner with enough weight behind them to get his point across and not add fuel to the fire he hoped.

He simply held his hands in view above the table so she could see he wasn’t trying anything under handed. There was no means of advance in his voice no look of the average male who took an interest in her. As usual he was something of an enigma. Reserved and eased of manner almost to what seemed to be a fault. Despite the fact that something inside him was telling him to leave before that dagger found a new home.
“As far as causing an incident goes. You and I both know, you won’t do something like that. There’s about thirty squires in this room besides you and myself. And just outside there’s about 5 maybe six knights. So just stop with the posturing and have a conversation with me. I mean it’s not really like we can go anywhere, most of the squires have been confined inside if they don’t have a knight escort. So were not going anywhere, at least anytime soon.” Alex paused a moment to consider the ramifications of what he’d just said. He had no interest in fighting at least not at this moment in time.

“All I’m asking is; what has you so angry all the time. If it’s too personal just say that if not then please? And don’t say Sunberth because I’ve spent a good chunk of time there myself, and I know others who have who aren’t even close to as volatile as you are.” Alex thought on Garland who’d told him he was from Sunberth. Amongst some other people he’d spoken too. Along with his own experiences there.

This guy was either very brave, or very foolish. Either way, she probably had to step up her intimidation of him. "Ya do realise that if I wanted to.. I could have you dead before people could react right?", shte started off. "I mean... I'm sitting across from you. All it takes is a quick draw of mah sword and a quick jab." If he wasn't gonna flinch or just outright shut up, the next few lines she'd spit at him very well would.

Though she mostly processed her family's death, it didn't mean she was completely over it. "So... I can't be angry at anything and everything when I saw my family murdered in front of my eyes? If I saw them gutted in front of me? Even my little sister?", her voice raising with each word. Most of the squires started to turn their heads to see what was going on. "How would you feel if you saw your adorable little sister tortured to death, over a few measly mizas."

The woman's face was red with anger and she wanted to vent on something. And that something was Alex's face preferably. Instead she slammed her fist into the table. "Now tell me, do you still think I ain't allowed to be pissed of at about every guy I meet? Huh? Petching wisepants. If I could kill that petcher again, I would. I would kill him over and over and over again."

Clearly she was trying to pressure him. To push him into fleeing or apologizing but no he simply held a solid look. A calm almost emotionless face as she raised her voice and spoke harsher and harsher. Speaking about how she could take the blade and hit him before he could react.
“If you wanted too. Thing is I don’t think you do.” He responded with such a calm manner it was almost unnatural. Still thought every fibre in his being was telling him to run but he wasn’t showing it. This as much as a contest of swords was a battle. This was a clash of wills. “I think despite the anger, you’re a good person. Else at the very least you wouldn’t be here.”

Though the thing that did make him react was what she said next. Instead of a sharp series of apologies he just listened to the whole onslaught of words. Though it at least gave reason to the source of her anger, purpose to the reason she felt so furious all the time. It was a feeling Alex knew well and had semi rekindled over the last couple of days. The words that came out of his mouth next were enough to parry her sentiments, a deep line edge of hatred and anger along his own matching hers blow for blow but without the volume, simply a series of restrained angered words.
“About the same way I’d feel if I watched my mother die in my arms literally as she was dissolved from the inside. For a hand-full of Mizas.” His eyes shot her a look that could have cut glass. This wasn’t the regular Alex this was the one who’d had to look back over his history. And see everything as crystal clear as the day it happened.

“In your situation Revy. I probably would react the same way, and if I could enact the suffering out on the guy enough times for him to be used to it.” Alex let out a slow breath. Almost like lighting flicked across his jade green eyes as he stared at her. Nowhere else but her own faded green eyes trying to impart show some form of understanding for her situation.
“But it’s passed. You can’t imprint the anger you feel for one man onto every one you meet. Dislike and distrust sure. But flat anger? That’s just inviting disaster. What happens when no-one can trust you because they’re unsure of when or how you’ll detonate?”

Alex didn’t raise from his seat he didn’t even flinch, he simply rested his elbows on the table. “If you want to hate someone. Want to be angry with someone. Be angry with yourself.” This time his words weren’t aimed at her, at least not in their entirety. “Be angry with the you that couldn’t prevent it, that couldn’t stop it from happening. Blame the one who did it, and blame yourself for not being able to prevent it.” Instead of rising to meet her anger he simply stared at her, he could see the flash of anger the separation to vent. Before she could rage any further he spoke Undoing the straps of his breastplate and letting them fall to the ground. Standing up opposite her he looked at her and saw something of himself he didn’t want to see.

“You want to vent? Hit me. Don’t beat up those who don’t deserve it.” Despite what he’d said and how he’d said it, he looked at her with a softness in his eyes. Not one of pity, but understanding. Finally seeing that the anger wasn’t a weapon, but an armour to prevent her being hurt again.

The more this guy was talking, the more Revy was getting pissed off. He was right on the mark with most of his comments, though her being a good person? That's something she wasn't so sure about. After all, she had done some pretty horrible things in the past as a means of survival. If she were to land in the same situation, she'd do the same things again. After all, one needed money to survive. And a mercenary needed even more to keep his or her equipment in prime condition.

Yet her anger lessened a little when he talked about his mother and a flash of understanding could be seen in her eyes for the observant, but it was quickly replaced with anger again. It still sounded not as bad as what she had seen. The anger, the fear and the self-hatred always resurfaced when she remembered the scene. And this guy was making her remember it all yet again, just when she thought she was over it.

She did think about her behaviour and what she'd do if no one would trust her anymore. But she didn't think it'd change much. She's had to survive on her own for quite a while already, so a few extra years or so wouldn't really matter. But then again, she'd need a little trust if she was going back to being a mercenary. "They dont need to trust me, they need to trust my sword arm. I ain't ever hurt a contracter and I ain't gonna start doin' it either.", she replied short and curt.

Sera Theresa was up early. She had to go pick up her squire, who had proven to be a bit volatile during the recent events. She seemed to want to jump on about every monster they came across, wether she could beat it or not. So she had decided to keep her close and keep her in check until this all blew over. After that, she could just tell that woman to blow off steam with the weaponmasters if she still wanted to fight.

The next words that Alex uttered, struck a rather sensitive snare, as the woman suddenly snagged the dagger out of the table and swung at him. He was making assumptions again, assumptions she didn't like. He was saying, at least the way Revy perceived it, that the woman hadn't been blaming herself. If she hadn't been blaming herself, she wouldn't have been in a near permanently drunken state for more then a decade.

Fortunately for Alexander, Theresa arrived at the time she did, as she was able to intercept Revy's arm. Preventing the squire from injuring the male. "Revy! Stand down, now!", she said. Then looking over at Alex, she apologized: "I'm sorry for the behaviour of my squire. However, I doubt that she was fully to blame. Both of you are coming with me and I am not taking no for an answer."

Revy look surprised at first when she felt something holding her back. But when she heard the voice, she knew she was in trouble. And not just minor trouble either. Whenever Sera Theresa spoke to her like that, she could count on hours of reading in the library, or cleaning hallways and other less sanitary areas. But the last thing she wanted to do, was worsen the situation by talking back to her.

There was a moment between the two of them that seemed to pass. The briefest fragment of a second. It was enough to let him know that his words had at the very least struck true. And as usual his instincts were right. His planning still needed some work however. As the second that brief glimpse passed he could see the anger billow up once again like a fiery cloud of pain and anguish. She’d never hurt someone she worked with. And that wasn’t going to change. Which just confirmed what he’d perceived.

“And what happens when you need someone to rely on? When you need to trust someone with something!? What happens if you push everyone around you away?!” Alex’s voice never raised just spoke with stricter tone, harder, more piercing. As her dagger sailed through the air towards him his still steel and chain clad hand grabbed a hold of the blade. A firm grip hard enough to have the chain links bite down into the steel edge. He’d thought he alone had grabbed the steel and prevented the strike. However upon closer inspection there was in fact a second hand gripping around Revy’s wrist.

The fact his words hurt meant he was right. Or at the very least he was getting through to her. As Revy was detained Alex bent down to strap his armour back across his chest. Strapping everything back in place, along with his weapon belt.
“Excuse me Sera, I don’t mean to speak out of turn but Revy has done nothing wrong. I agitated the issue, and subsequently caused the outburst. She bares no blame in this matter as she tried to stop me but I kept pushing. I Ask that no reprimand befall her.” His words were settled, even once again. Despite the darkened events and words a few moments earlier his tone was once again back to the soothing and frighteningly light words they were usually.

At her demand of both himself and Revy following her he nodded his head slowly taking a moment to speak to Revy.
“The fact that my words hurt means I’m right. It also means that the pain is still there, and that’s why I know you’re a good person. Now that I know why you’re angry all the time, you don’t have to deal with it alone. That’ll only makes things worse. If you need somebody to talk too, I’m always here.” As usual the strange softness to his voice was there, almost as if the past altercation hadn’t happened. He was just doing what he usually did. Shouldering the burden of those around him to give them the ability to carry on. Give them the hope to move forwards.

Stalinsa was surprised that the squire across Revy had grabbed the dagger the way he did. If he had been even the tiniest bit slower, he could've had a gash across that neckline of his. Though surprisingly she wouldn't have minded if that had happened. For some reason, he just irked her. And that was probably the same thing that caused this particular situation.

Though when the squire adressed the knight, she just got pissed off. It was as if she was getting taught here, while the opposite was true. So in turn she gave him a cold look. "Your remark is noted, now get moving.", she said. As far as Theresa could see, both of them were in the wrong. Revy for lashing out like that. She was supposed to know better as her squire. Always hold back if you get pissed off and let reasoning prevail.

Revy could straight up see that even her patron disliked this guy. But she wasn't that concerned with that right now. First she had to put away the dagger. The rest of her meal, she just left there. At least she had the Dhani meat she could eat up while walking. She wondered what her patron had in store for her. Things that she's had to do was j ust sit in a chair and study books. And she hated that. What use was it to learn from a book, when you could just learn from people or in the field?

The knight was thinking about a way to punish the both of them. It'd have to be something they disliked doing, yet not bad enough for them to hate it. For Revy it'd probably mean she'd have to spend a couple days in the library. After all, she really disliked reading. But for that other squire, she couldn't really come up with one. She'd have to come along with him, after dropping Revy off at the library. Dear god what could squires be a major pain in the butt sometimes. "We'll be visiting your patron later... I dont think I caught your name.", Theresa told Alex.
