Just another ordanary day in Alvadas

Winter 43, 517

After an entire day of sunlight the night was welcomed. Alex didn't know how or when the day shifted to night but she was so tired. Sleeping during the day was not something she was accustomed to and trying to sleep while the sun was out proved to be nearly impossible. With a sudden burst of energy from a second wind she decided to try her hand at cooking and would venture out to gather supplies. While she was not really sure what supplies she would need the city had always done well to provide for her in the little time she was here. With that she would go to the market.

Heading to the market she didn't really know what she would need, growing up in wind reach didn't really prepare her for this kind of life. While she was not a Dek she was a Chiet for most of her life in the city and just only ranked as a Avora. Thinking back on some of the meals she had in the city she decided she could throw something together it would just be a matter of buying some fish and putting it over a fire. How hard could that be?

It would take over an hour to get to the bizarre today, something it would have only taken minutes to do the day before. Getting there she saw so many stalls selling just about everything. Something she would keep an eye out would be a talon sword, something she had wished she had taken from home before she left. Back in wind reach they were all over the place, just about everyone who had any rank at all had one. Now however not a single person seemed to have one. She would have to find a blacksmith and commission one.

Just as quickly as her energy had perked her back up it seemed to be fading from her body, thoughts scattered and shoulders rolled forward. The first stall she came across had weapons. Alex would scan over the table looking at each of the items, each of them seemed well made to her even if only a few would be something she was even interested in. A tall Isur women stood up and greeted her with a nod. "Hello, I am not really out to buy right now. I am just looking." The Isur women nodded at Alex's words. "These are some of the best weapons you will find in the bizarre." She picks up the nearest small bladed weapon, a dagger with a drop point and then another with a clip point. "A knife is something everyone should have at all times. You never know when you will need to cut some rope or defend yourself from a pick pocket. This knife" The clip point. "Is a good all around knife. The point on this is better for puncturing then the other." She moves the drop point signaling it. "This one is a little safer for skinning with the flatter blade and more rounded point." Setting the one in her left hand down she turns the one in her right over holding the point to the table. "This part is the spine. You can get a basic feel for the quality of a knife here. You want meat here, if its to thin it will snap off in your hand. You would probably be better off with a shard of glass in your hand." Setting it down she moves to something else. Alex nods and says. "Thank you for the information but I am not really looking to buy right now." The Isur nods. "Next time you are around maybe." With that Alex turns and leaves.

Alexandra figured it was some good information to keep in mind, knowing everything had to be taken with a grain of salt. Maybe she would speak to the smith in town about more later. Now back to food, fish shouldn't be to hard to find. Walking around for a bit more she looked at people wears from a distance trying not to get to involved. After what seemed like only a few more steps she found herself in front of a bench. Turning around the nearest stall was a some 50 or so feet away. "I don't have the energy for this." She said plopping down on the bench. "Maybe if I just sit here for a moment..."

Just another ordanary day in Alvadas

Alex quickly fell asleep. When she woke she found herself on the bench covered in a blanket. She rubbed her eyes and getting a clear glimpse of what was around her, her jaw dropped open. "What have I done to displease you Ionu?" She said in common. Standing up she was on a small island not much larger then the bench. Several islands surrounded hers of different sizes the first few tethered to hers by a thick rope, at some points just inches above the ice filled water. Some of these islands were small and contained a small box and a wooden pillar while others were larger and seemed to have more. Some of these islands contained some kind of light source proving a beacon in the night while others seemed to only have darkness.

Setting a foot down she stepped on something. Looking own she found some thin rope, a short bow and a single arrow. "Great what am I suppose to do with this?" she said in Nari. Picking up the bow she felt something come over her and it was as if she lost control of her body. Her eyes got big as her hands moved to grab the arrow and then the rope. Her fingers moved with superhuman speed securing the rope to the arrow before attaching the other end to her wrist. She pulled back the arrow and fired it at a tree off in the distance. The arrow buried itself into the tree before whatever had taken control released her. Stumbling backwards she fell onto her backside wrist held in the air by the thin rope.

"Alright I get it!" she yelled out into the darkness. Using the rope she pulled hard bringing herself up onto her feet. The arrow held firmly without any signs of giving up its hold, This arrow was unlike she had seen before with its brightly colored fetching and incredible strength. It was to far to swing and even if it was able to hold her weight at this point who knows if it could withstand something like that. The only choice left would be to tie it to something else and start to cross. That was exactly what she did attaching the rope to the bench before giving it a few firm tugs. The bench seemed rather secure and did not move so she slung the bow over her shoulder and proceed.

"Alright Lexi, fall into the water and freeze to death no biggy." Setting one foot on the rope below she tested it with her weight before grabbing the thinner one again and starting to shimmy off to the next island. One hand over the other, one step at a time she slowly made her way over to the next landmass. The angle of the thinner rope made this task slower moving as it starting at just above her waist and working its way up. Things slowly became less and less stable and about 2/3 of the way the difference in height and distance caught up with her and she began to wobble. As her feet moved to the left her hands moved to the right, trying to correct this made it that much worse as correcting quickly turned into over correcting. Twisting her foot her boot caught the rope between the front and the slight heel giving her an idea. Twisting her right foot now she tipped her toes down and pushed allowing her to lean hard left. The rocking stopped almost instantly but left her leaning hard at a 45 degree angle. "I really should have taken up blacksmiths or maybe something that would help with arm strength." She said shaking her head while she gathered herself enough to move in this pushup like position. Heel to heel, fist to fist she moved up the rope allowing it to bring her closer to a standing position with each little bit of incline.

Up and up she goes until she is only a few feet away. The incline is now to steep for her and she only just holds on by the tips of her fingers. In an attempt to walk on the rope she lines up her right boot and puts her weight on it but is slides all over and she is unable to balance. A few more moments go by, her arms begin to ache from being held over her head for this long. Letting go with one hand she slowly pulled the bow off of her back. Balancing was had enough to handed this made it that much worse. The strain was starting to get to her so she bit her lower lip trying her best to keep it together. As much as it pained her to do this she threw the bow onto the small bit of earth narrowly missing the waters edge before quickly reaching back to the rope.

Stepping on tiptoe she pushes herself up as best she can and grips the rope firmly with both hands. Seeing no other choice she moves her feet off the rope and starts to swing her body forward and back. Her hands begin to ache and she can feel her grip loosening. When she could no longer hold on her pulls hard forward and lets go of the rope. Fearing the cold water she pulls herself into a ball closes her eyes letting inertia carry her as far as it could.

Landing flat on her back Alex burst open her arms flying out to her sides and her legs slamming down on the ground before her. Man did that hurt but it was better then the alternative. Opening her eyes it took a minute before she sat up. For the first time she realized that the sky was void of stars. Closing her eyes again rubbing them before arching her back and wiggling her toes.Everything seemed to be in working order and it seemed that nothing more than her ego would be bruised from this fall. Sitting up she opened her eyes again and looked back at the void above her. "Nope still not there."

Getting to her feet she would head over to the pack that was just sitting in the middle of this island. Sitting neatly on top of the pack would be another arrow. This one just as odd as the last. Digging further in the pack she would find a fish wrapped in paper, boned and cleaned, A length of thin rope, a broken parasol and some flint. "Well I was going out to the market but this is not quite what I expected."

Looking around she could only see one source of light close enough she felt she could accurately hit. "Well I guess we go here next." After picking up her bow and attaching the thin rope to this arrow she fired it hitting the base of a tree. Tugging hard she made sure the line was secure. She felt clever with this one and moved back to the arrow some unknown force helped her fire the first time. Tossing the rope up and over took a few tries. After two failed attempts she managed to get up and over before taking a moment to secure the line.

She would pull the broken parasol out of the bag and lay it on the ground before closing up the pack and tossing it over her shoulder. Next up would be the bow to follow the pack. Grabbing the parasol she would move to the waters edge. "Well even if this will not close properly it should still have at least one use." Taking the hook end of the parasol she latched it onto the rope and lifted herself off of the ground. Quickly she began to slide down the rope and race towards other island.

Not only did the island get closer but so did the water below. Pulling herself as high as she could her coat still managed to catch the water and slow her down. Her feet would be the first thing to hit land laying her flat out on her belly getting a face full of soil.

Just another ordanary day in Alvadas

Getting up on her hands and knees she begins spitting out little bits of dirt. She pushes herself up onto her knees and begins to brush off herself. Other then a few small scrapes on her cheek she was just fine, no bigger bruises then on her ego. "This is getting old really quick." Getting herself up to her feet once more she quickly pulled her pack off and quickly took her bow in hand. She pulled on the string and examined and tested it for strength. The only thing more important then a bow would be the arrows she fired with it. A weapon meant food and protection and in a time like this she had no idea what she might need protection from.

Scanning the area she found a table next to a small circle of rocks. A piece of steel, an iron pot with a large handle for hanging, and a scroll neatly tied with a emerald green ribbon all sat on the table. The small circle of rocks had its own goodies. A wood pile ready to be lit sat in the middle with an iron tripod and hook set up and ready for something to hang. "Well it looks like the kitchen is all set up and ready to go. To bad you forgot the cook!" She said with a huff before snatching up the scroll and slipping off the ribbon. A recipe and a list of ingredients were jotted down. “Great” She said throwing it back on the table. With the ribbon still in hand she slips it between her lips and threads her fingers through her hair pulling back the coppery strands. With a handful of hair she frees up the other to pull the ribbon from her lips and begin to wrap it around her hair. It only takes her a moment before she had it tired up in a sloppy bow.

She was ready to get started but the real question was where were all the the supplies she would need? Dumping out her pack she looked through all of the available supplies again but was still missing a few key things like water and the root vegetables on the list. Looking down at her feet she thought for a moment and began to pace but when she looked back up the world around her had changed, darkness seemed to consume more of her surroundings. The path leading back seemed to be shrouded in blackness and only the path forward to a single island remained. A large tree sat in the middle with only a lanterns light to illuminate a bit of the stump. “You are being less than helpful!” She called out into the nothingness stepping towards it as if anyone was listening. “You know what I have had enough of your games. I'm done.” And with a rude gesture she held up her hands. She marched herself back over to the table and grabbed the rope and arrow. Attaching the rope to the arrow she aimed and fired it at the tree sitting on the other island. Hitting its mark she quickly tied the other end of it to the table, it seems sturdy enough.

With that she jumped up on the table and decided she would walk across the rope, what could go wrong right? Her balance was impeccable. One step, two steps, three steps she amazed herself on how well she balanced. Step four however did not got so well and loosing her footing she fell hard into the water. She gasped as the icy cold water paralyzed her almost instantly. Reaching up for the light as she sank like a stone. The light quickly faded into darkness, calm silence filling the darkness. Closing her eyes she just waited for the cold embrace of death. Was this all her life was?

The weight of the water piled onto her until it seemed to life off of her all at once. She slowly opened her eyes and seeing faint lights through blurry eyes she gasped and took in breath. Every part of her felt stiff. Looking down she was covered in freshly fallen snow. She struggled to get to her feet but knew she couldn't stay here any longer. All the shops were closed and everyone had gone.

Notes
I really liked the idea for this thread! I wish I could have given you more skills (mainly shortbow and acrobatics), but unfortunately, you can't earn skills in dreams. :( Something to keep in mind for the future! Especially being in Alvadas, you can make just about anything happen without having to rely on it having been a dream. I look forward to seeing more of Alex dealing with Alvadas.

Thank you for your patience! As always, please edit or delete your request in the grading queue; and if you have any questions or concerns about your grades, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me!
