Quzon planned to figuratively destroy himself today.

Or rather, planned to destroy the weakest version of his past self through intense physical training. The location of his inevitable hardship was the parcel of land that acted as his front yard. The Myrian's prepared the means of his destruction by placing two heavy chains fifty feet apart from each other on the ground.

ImageAs Quzon set the second one down, he turned to nod at Seraya who sat waiting for him to finish. She sat around the tent Quzon always kept pitched in his front yard, holding her long sword into the air as she examined its blade.

“What’s the plan? I thought you said we’d be doing weapons training?” The green faced Verusk asked while glancing over at the weighted chains laying on the ground.

“Buraga?”

Quzon mused, wondering if the Settlement defender would take up the offer to train with them. He liked training with Seraya since she was an excellent warrior and likewise marked by the Goddess-Queen Myri. In a way, training with a tough female reminded him of being home in Taloba. “I let him know. He told me that he’d drop by after a patrol if things were peaceful. Ken Chi was with him too. He also said he might stop by to watch.”

In response to Seraya’s question, Quzon merely reached behind his back to retrieve the handaxe that was tucked into his belt. It was clear that only wore the belt for the sole purpose of keeping the handaxe on his person.

“This is plan: I pick up chain, hold it over head, run to other chain, place down, pick up other, run back, do ten squats, make self tired. Repeat. Then we spar… need train with axe.”

Seraya shook her head in slight confusion. "Just you? Or both of us?"

He shrugged his shoulders, then turned to walk towards the nearest chain. "If you want. Up to you." Seraya sheathed her long-sword before standing up to join him near the first chain. "I'm not just going to stand around waiting for you to get tired. How about this, we can alternate. You go there and back five times, then I'll go."

And so it all began with hardly any fanfare.

Quzon reached down with both hands to grab the ends of the chain his hands. It was one of the chains he often used as a scarf to run with around the settlement. It weighted exactly fifty pounds which made it feel as if he were wrestling a snake as he bent at the knees to pick it up with his legs from a deadlift, curling it to his chest before pressing his arms straight up into the air. The process of picking it up already forced him to use his thighs, biceps, and shoulder muscles.

Once he got it into proper position, he bent his arms slightly at the elbows to stabilize the weight over his head while pressing his bare feet into the soil. His entire body was sent rocketing forward into a rapid sprint towards the other chain. "One, two, three, four..." Quzon started counting the number of steps he'd taken in his head to find a baseline number to set to see if he could run the path faster on his next go.

The Half-isur felt good as he ran while he kept his abdominal muscles flexed during the process to keep his anti-rotational muscles activated. This overhand carry would be worth its weight in sit-ups by the end of the day. It was one fleeing thoughts which cause him to loose track of the number he last counted as his feet stampeded onward against the ground. And before he knew it, the second chain was at Quzon's feet.

The Pale Myrian heaved aside the chain that he was carrying, sending it crashing down onto the ground. The new focus of his attention was the second chain. He bent at the knees to make sure not to hurt his back while reaching down to grab the chain by both ends. Quzon pulled it up off the ground in a deadlift until it was at his waist level, then he flexed his biceps to curl the chain towards his shoulders.

A determined grunt of air passed his lips as he pressed his arms towards the sky to lift the fifty pound chain up into the air. The strength needed to maintain it sent ripples of tension through his shoulders, but he simply stayed the course by running back to his starting position near Seraya.

Before he could set this chain down, Quzon needed to do ten squats which only increased the difficulty of challenge while he continued to hold the chain in the air. Quzon took a deep breath to brace his core to keep from hurting his back, then slid his feet a shoulders width apart with a slight bend of his knees.

Quzon was about to attempt his first dip into an overhead squat when Seraya erupted forward in a swift sprint towards the distant chain. It looked like she wanted to join in now rather than wait until he was done.

Quzon did not want to make her wait when she returned, so he squatted down as far as he comfortably could, loading all of that weight onto his thighs while his heels dug into the dirt. And in one explosive movement, Quzon pressed himself upright into a standing position. The muscles of his lower body each sang with tension from the stresses placed on them, but it was a pleasant sensation to the Half-Isur. It told Quzon that he was truly alive and properly building his body.
