On Harrol's word, Nex shifted into his wolf form, the large black wolf prowling to the head of the party. He knew as well as anyone else the need for secrecy, and speed, but he also realized the worth of the people. Nex would make sure he kept a reasonable pace through the forest. The markers on the trees where easy to distinguish with his keen eyesight, and despite the man's foreboding tone he thought that this night may go uneventful with the safe passage of these slaves to the camp. With a friendly nod to his counterpart Ren, he looked around to see if the rest of the troop was readily. As ready as he ever would be, he set of down the trail as soon as he felt the tight grip of one of the slaves on his fur, loping off at a leisurely pace at first, but gradually increasing it to a more suitable one as he felt more confident in the man's grip. His keen eyes focused on every marker, making turns where suitable, and taking short cuts when he saw a marker off in the distance.
The woods around them seemed to quiet to be natural, it seemed as the whole forest in itself was anticipating something that was supposed to happen, but Nex couldn't help but wonder what it expected. His keen hearing didn't pick up anything at the moment, besides the steady breathing of the men following him, and their footsteps. Nex's smell also checked out ok, but still there was a nagging feeling in his mind that tonight would not go the same as all the others had, and the thought worried him more than a little bit. Still trusting in Harrol's judgment that he should lead with Ren, he made his way through the forest. They were about half way along the trail by his estimation, but anything could happen on the other half of the trip, he would just have to use his instincts and remain wary if he was to survive this night.
