Ven, though still a bit discouraged from his loss, felt a little ease from his shoulders after Kaden's sympathy and moment of respect; as if the tension was finally coming to an ease. The thought of starting at the bottom didn't bother Ven much, to him it was better than having no where to go. His skills is what would be the judge of his placement though, for his assignments would no doubt challenge those skills.

"Well sir, I have learned to survive within the wild before meeting my master. Therefore I'm quite good with hunting and sneaking, also learning to blend in with the environment was important for me as well." He assured Kaden, taking some deep thought to any other skills that would be important to remember. "As a fox you have to learn how to be intelligent and cunning in order to survive, otherwise a bigger animal might get the best of you. So it was important that I learn to use those two proper, in and out of the wild." He nodded in his assurance, that seemed to be pretty much everything that occurred to him. "I speak the common fluently, and can converse with Lhavitian fairly, and barely understand Nari." That described his understanding of others, but was there something else?

Nothing else to recall....unless... His thoughts wondered to Kaden and his interest, and that's when the question came to him. "Is there anything you'd like to know about me in particular?"

Kaden smiled at the boy’s confidence; he had no doubt that the kelvic was a good hunter. Most kelvic children were master hunters before human children could even babble. Kaden chose his next words carefully, speaking with controlled modulation. “It would give me nothing but pleasure to assign you to the hunter class. Wind Reach could always do with more food. Even a fox hunter could be helpful in its own way. Unfortunately,” Kaden paused, his countenance furrowing to a grave stare. “I cannot have a foreigner hunting in our grounds without the ability to speak our language. Not only would it be a danger to you, but to my own people.” Kaden was not sure if Ven understood what he meant so he tried to explain as simply as he could. “If one of our master archers saw you, especially in your fox form, poaching in on his prey, he would have no qualms shooting you. And even if you managed to transform to your human form in time to explain what you were doing – how could you? Very few of our citizens speak Common, especially our hunters who have no reason to do so. I cannot have you hunting until you can speak Nari well enough so that even a child can understand you. But you are young, healthy, and strong – unlike many of our drudge. I will assign you to Val Imsun as one of his messenger or carrier Deks. He can speak common even better than I. He will help you learn Nari gradually. But do not be disheartened; remember, this is only temporary. Once you can integrate yourself as a productive citizen, come back to me and I will make sure you are rewarded for your hard work and perseverance. Do you have any questions or concerns? I understand you want this wrapped up as quickly as possible…” Kaden leaned back into his chair raising his eye brow at the quite audible grumbling emanating from Ven’s stomach. Ven felt a small disappointment in his heart, but then hope replaced it when he knew that he would join the hunter's in time. He would have to take time into learning their language, and dedicate much to it as well if he really wanted to of course. Definitely, in time, he would no doubt become a excellent hunter, and would prove himself useful. He would make not only his master and Ronin proud, but Kaden as well. As he began to leave something occurred to him: he really had no place to stay, and no doubt Ronin was surely gone doing his own business. Ven would probably get lost and waste precious time in searching for him, so instead he decided to ask one more question from Kaden.


"I only have one request, if it's in your power to grant it." After a brief moment Kaden appeared to be waiting, so Ven went ahead with what he had to say. "The only person I know here is Ronin, in which I have no idea where he's gone.... and I have no where else to stay really. So do you know any friends of Ronin's that could possibly help me out? Get me settled in at least?" He pointed out, hoping to get his facts straight. After this question he would surely be off, since his stomach was pretty much begging him for food. His only hope though was that Kaden did know someone he could stay with, even if it was just for a short while. He didn't care who, so long as it was someone he could get along with. Otherwise he was pretty much on his own.

Kaden laughed a deep chest laugh devoid of mirth. Such innocence in outsiders really brought a tear to his eye. Him. The main representative of the Valintar… in cahoots with Chiet…and especially privy to their social lives? Today was already turning out to be less dreary than usual. “I’m sorry my boy, but I really don’t know who this Ronin you are speaking of, let alone his friends. There is a chiet or two from the library who were helping my staff with some basic cataloguing. I think they are finished and have some free time. They are scholars; I am sure at least one of them knows at least a smidge of common. Why don’t you try one of them? If not then I’ll see what I can do for you. Good bye Ven. It was a pleasure to meet you.” Kaden bowed his head, flipping through the record book on his desk. Ven was dismissed.
