[Flashback] Enter My Ethereaum (Chemar)

A deactivated broom clutched within her wiry hands, the bony girl swung with wild accuracy at the little sweets heading her way. Several line drives shot the chef’s minions back at her, where they exploded in poofs of white powder sugar and gushes of raspberry filling all over her impeccable body and flanking counters. So caught up in the joy of covering the chef’s face in thick red goop, the gurgling honey encasing her feet didn’t register until a treat was just a little out of reach and the necessary step never took place. Broom held at the ready, a nonplussed glance dropped to those stuck appendages before darting up to Chemar.

…who was, of course, scrunching her eyes closed in the middle of a fight. When did the girl pick up this bad habit? She might not have been much of a fighter when they’d met back in the day, but she’d never been that silly! Dropping the rough shaft to her shoulder, the little monkey soldier sighed and scrutinized the girl with a disappointed head shake. At least her hands were curled into fists. Her feet weren’t shoulder width apart, nor her knees bent, the ape hadn’t even managed to screw her face up into a ferocious fear-inspiring snarl. That was the most important part of a fight, the crazy eye and lip curl, make an adversary wonder if you were going to eat them. It wouldn’t even be cannibalism in this case! Their foes crawled out of cabinets, escaped from ovens, leapt from prep tables, and all smelled delectable. That pie over in the corner was most certainly a rhubarb pie with a buttery flaky crust. Stomach growling, Sai bopped one of the treats dangling from her bryda with the broom, knocking it into a daze, and lifted it to her gaping maw.

And that’s exactly how Chemar found her scant seconds later, captured in a snapshot of her absurd love of eating. While the dreamwalker panicked, flopping around and emptying her stomach, probably to make room for more treats, Sai glared at the pastry that just wouldn’t close the negligible distance to her mouth. Not even sticking her tongue out yielded positive results. Neither did trying to grab the thing with her other hand. Frustrated, the little soldier monkey struggled wildly with just as disheartening results. Panic crept up as claustrophobia kicked in, complete immobility registering. No options existed, there was nothing she could do. Nothing she could do. Anyone could do anything they wanted to her. Or Chemar. Or Aidara.

Mind clouded by circular paranoia, the trial Chemar overcame to rescue her slid by sightless eyes. When she stumbled from the cage, it was straight into her friends arms.

"Of course it worked," dream-Sai answered, clapping the lanky teenager on the shoulder and beaming at her. "I've never met anyone I trust as much as you." As though that had anything to do with the girl's skills and success at employing them. With her hands still on her friend's biceps, she cast those bright golden eyes around speculatively. "Did we get into another fight? Surely by now we're past all that. I mean, come on, look at them. Who in their right mind would waste something as delectable as one of those pastries?" A bit of drool fell from Sai's lip and she hastily rubbed a wrist over her mouth, giving the ever-graceful Chemar a sheepish grin. As she turned and reached for one of the gooey red treats at their feet, though the Dreamwalker knew it wouldn't come up no matter how hard the chiet girl tugged, Sai froze.

Swallowing convulsively, Sai straightened and turned a psychotically placid gaze on the taller girl.

"We need to leave. Now," she ordered, though she didn't move. Her fingers had got a bit of the filling on them, and red syrup poured down the segmented digits. Apparently, Sai was reacting quite well to Chemar's deep seated inclination to nightmares. At their feet, where that pastry had been, rested a mangled face. It's forehead had caved in, the curve of its skull had multiple divots, each one full of bone-speckled blood and strings of tissue. The face was mostly recognizable. In fact, he'd just visited the Dreaming Lady a few days before this.

But nothing else changed, the dream reacting to Chemar's new found confidence in her control of things. Just the appearance of the corpse stood out from the earlier confectionery havoc.
"Oneday I wished upon a star
And woke up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me."
