Because sometimes, all we could ever need is just one person to make things better.

The Last Unicorn

Postby Kamalia Timandre on March 8th, 2010, 8:41 am

I used to watch this film when I was little, and I remember feeling disconcerted and sad, even though I could only vaguely remember the story. I remember the unicorn for being so ethereal and beautiful, but at the same time a very melancholic creature which left me saddened. I feared for the unicorn's life when it was being chased after by the elemental bull. The unicorn was something you want to exist, some dream you want to lengthen, even though you know it has to vanish someday.

In truth, she would have been better off as an ethaefal. I just realized this now, but subconsciously, the Last Unicorn/ Lady Amalthea was probably one of my inspirations for Kamalia, as it was Ashivirsthargon who likened her to a unicorn.

When looking through old videos from my childhood, I pulled out the last unicorn and still have it on VHS. I love this movie, its art, it's message. I grew up being exposed to these kinds of concepts of preserving good to thwart evil. I have my grandmother to thank for showing me movies like this one, the hobbit, star trek next generation series, and the secret of nihm! It's up to us good guys to protect what's good and right in the world, to keep it from falling below the surface of our children's hearts.

Amen for mentioning this movie, it has brought back all sorts of wonderful memories, thank you Kami :)

I have that movie, too, and I highly recommend the book. The prose is really remarkable. The man knows how to sling a metaphor.

I think the Last Unicorn is some kind of modern fairytale of which there are far too few today ... They remind us that we have to keep our dreams, that dreams are wonderful in the world of reality. I've been discovering that many people have seen and liked that particular movie although it's already getting old - and that's very positive! <3

The Vianwood Coffin

Postby Kamalia Timandre on March 15th, 2010, 1:53 am

I am not exactly one who wakes up this early unless I have work or I've got something really important to do, but I know I've got to write this down. Just a while ago, I dreamed that I was talking to Kamalia.

No kidding.

I have a close relationship with my character, but I didn't know I would start dreaming speaking with a person I only channeled through my thoughts. I could not exactly remember most of our discussion, but I knew the first thing we talked about was something about walls, which were white. I was driving my car in the city, and it was late at night. Kamalia was at the backseat, but I barely remember how she looked. I just saw her as fair-skinned and ethereal. We were speaking not in English, not in Kontinese, but in Filipino.

Our conversation shifted. "Was there a time you wanted to fade away?" she asked.

"Yes, I have. A few times before."

"Me too," she said. "But that's foolishness. Don't you know how much people love you? Don't you realize how much people had gone through to make you feel cherished?"

I did not answer. Somehow, it felt like it started to rain.

"When someone fades away, the earth grieves. See the rain? It tastes like tears."

"Have you tasted your own tears?"

"Our tears are not salty."

There was a vague point in our conversation, and I don't remember what we talked about. I saw flashes of a white coffin.

"When I die, I want a white coffin."

"Me too. I've always imagined having a white coffin in my funeral."

"Mine will be made of vianwood," she told me smilingly, before I realized it was a dream. It's a beautiful feeling, when you know you're dreaming, and you realize reality is trying to snatch you back to wakefulness. Loveliest are the things that surely must end.

Then next moment, I was opening my eyes.

I felt really sad, and at the same time, I felt something warm, something serene had enfolded me. It's difficult to describe the feeling. It felt like it just rained, and it felt like I just cried, but I did not. There was something gentle, something soft and something peaceful about that feeling, yet there was melancholy.

I stared at the clock to see what time it was, because I wanted to write my dream and emotions down somewhere, before I forget them.

I want to remember this, no matter how silly or sad it may sound. I think I'm going to get some more sleep.

This is a beautiful dream ... I think it's good that you wrote it down, so maybe its meaning will be revealed to you in the future.

Also, it's funny that she actually mentioned vianwood! ^^

Love is Watching Someone Die.

Postby Kamalia Timandre on March 16th, 2010, 9:38 am

Mirror - il m'aime (he loves me)
Palm - un peu (a little)
Wall - beaucoup! (a lot!)
Arm - passionnément (passionately!)
Leg - a la folie (madly!)
Mirror - il m'aime pas du tout (he loves me not at all)

---

And it came to me then that every plan
Is a tiny prayer to father time.
As I stared at my shoes in the ICU
That reeked of piss and 409
And I rationed my breaths as I said to myself
That I've already taken too much today.
As each descending peak on the LCD
Took you a little farther away from me
Away from me.

Amongst the vending machines and year-old magazines,
In a place where we only say goodbye
It stung like a violent wind that our memories depend
On a faulty camera in our minds.
And I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose
Than to have never lain beside at all
And I looked around at all the eyes on the ground
As the TV entertained itself.

Cause there's no comfort in the waiting room,
Just nervous pacers bracing for bad news.
And then the nurse comes round and everyone lift their heads
But Im thinking of what Sarah said
That love is watching someone die.

So who's gonna watch you die?

On the Vianwood Coffin:

Dreams are beautiful. I think everyone should record them. ^-^

And you are cherished. We've known each other for quite a few years now and even though we've never met in person I knew you were something kind of special back when Keturah was just a name with no voice behind her. ^_~
Apologies to everyone I'm threading with, but it's like the Danaides for me right now.
