Season of Summer - Day 37 - 511 AV

Getting off that pathetic excuse for a trading ship gave Jaiyahe a jolt of enthusiasm for exploring his new surroundings, after 26 days sailing from Mura in a small confined cabin that could barely contain his massive, bulky frame and a small deck that didn't provide nearly enough room for him to move freely, his arms and legs were sore from days of idleness. Yet he realize that he would soon miss the sunsets and sunrises of the golden sun that raised and lowered behind the vast expanse of ocean and the sprays of cool water that relieved his face of the heat from the sun. As he carried off the last of the supply boxes to dock, completing his debt to the Captain, Jaiyahe set off to look around the lawless streets of Sunberth and hopefully find the center of the buzzing city, while reminding himself of the Captains earlier warnings of danger. "Dont look at anyone in the eye! They'll slice you up just as easy as speak to you!" Jaiyahe repeated the Captains words of smart advice in his head as he continued up the street.

Through the small, twisted lanes of Sunberth, Jaiyahe once again noticed that the people were all staring at him, looking at his black furred body, that swelled with threatening muscle and his massive arms that silently stated his physical dominance. From the doors of tiny, run down houses to the mucky windows of unknown taverns, all eyes were on him just like in Mura and previous places before it, the only difference here was that not all of the curious gazes were friendly.

Climbing up the last few steps of the steep lane, Jaiyahe finally made it to the commons, a place where pickpocket, murderer and rapist wandered around like any normal member of society, unknown of they're misdeeds. The bright sun was brightly shining, directly in the center of the sky causing a heatwave, there wasn't much shade so Jaiyahe walked into a back ally just a few meters out of the massive mob of farmers, smiths and merchants at there stalls trying to flog there wares on the citizens of Sunberth.

The area Jaiyahe escaped to was a cool, dry, wide dead end street that was made of homes and the occasional abandoned building, nothing out of the ordinary, especially for a uncontrollable city full of anarchism like Sunberth. Feeling weary from the immense heat and crowds of people, Jaiyahe sat next to a tree that had be stabbed and cut almost beyond recognition. "Who would dare destroy this poor tree!?" he thought to himself in his native tongue as he ran his fingers across the gouges that labeled its trunk, feeling anger rising up through him, he quietly and slowly uncovered the odd, wolf lined book that he obtained in Mura and began to read its pages. After a few pages however, he heard distinct voices that were growing louder and closer, obviously not any merchant or citizen from the center of the commons, Jaiyahe swiftly covered the book and put it in the little, ragged bag it was being carried in and tied it securely to his waist.

Three dirty and unkempt men all about 5.5 feet in height blocked the way to the market place. "Well, well what do we have here?" one of them said in a rough, croaky voice, "Looks like one of them ugly beasts from Spires, boss" another hastily replied, "He has a bag!" the croaky voiced man exclaimed to his associates while eyeing up the satchel, "Give it here beast!" he shouted while the three of them unveiled rusty, blotched daggers.
Jaiyahe replied in a stern yet calm voice bursting with defiance "Me no want fight but you cant have" he pointed to the bag around his waist.
"I wont ask again you ugly, disgusting monster!" the croaky man shouted, slowly approaching Jaiyahe with his comrades with daggers in hand.
"You dont get this!" Jaiyahe roared back, smashing his gigantic fists to the ground causing the surrounding earth to shake.

The assailants looked at each other with worried expressions "Its just a stupid monster! Get him now!" the croaky leader screamed with strain to his voice. With the command they started to attack Jaiyahe, slashing and cutting at his arms. Violent with unfathomable rage, the colossal Jamoura swung his fists wildly and amateurishly towards one of the attackers, luckily hitting the side of the face with such force, it managed to propel the unlucky bandit through a nearby building, seeing his friend twirl through the air with a strange type of elegance, the other attacker rapidly withdrew his tarnished blade and ran out of fear of receiving a similar, disastrous fate.
All that remind was the unfortunate leader of the three, now regretting his stupid, thoughtless and vulgar actions

Jaiyahe picked him up with two hands and began to squeeze, as the excruciating embrace began to grow greater, Jaiyahe lifted the antagonist up to his own face and while staring furiously into the mans petrified eyes, he into began to roar, the might of the reverberations sending screaming ripples down the attackers skin, at that moment he stopped and forcefully threw the man down. With tears raining down his cheeks, the leader scrambled to his lifeless legs and limped for his life, pushing through the hectic crowds when he reached the market with terrified ambition.

Sitting down with the vigor that came from the recent victory, Jaiyahe began to tend to his minor wounds that plagued the length and breadth of his arms.

OocSo many O’s!
Darik started his day by wandering the Sunberth streets looking for stuff to “borrow.” His borrow is the equivalent of looking for stuff that could be stolen and never returned. While looking for potential money makers, Darik saw a large hairy ape and it’s satchel. The satchel looked filled to the brim! Darik figured the ape, unless it was carrying rocks, was storing Mizas in their. He couldn’t follow it though because he got backtracked by a certain incident involving a purse in his face. No need to elaborate, because it would damage Darik’s pride more.

After the confrontation with the woman, he searched for the ape. Alas, when he found him, a gang of three people had him cornered. No use interfering in a fight that already had a predetermined outcome. Who was going to win? Darik had no idea but he figured it was going to be one sided either way. The humans were many but the ape was huge. Either way it was going to be an interesting fight. To watch the fight progress, he chose to hide behind a pile of boxes. The boxes were used, so half of the boxes were rotten. Darik used the rotten holes to see how the fight played out.

The men used an unnecessary tactic, conversation. There was no use in it if they are going to rob the ape. Infact, surprise is a thief’s greatest tool. The men’s mistakes didn’t end there. A man charged without the support of the other’s. Because of the tactical mistake, he was quickly thrown into a building. Ouch. It wasn’t surprising though, the ape was massive. The other henchman took the cowards way out, no not suicide that’s not even close to cowardice, it takes immense bravery! The man made cowards every proud when he hastily retreated. The leader ended up facing the ape alone. He didn’t get time to run because the ape picked him up and started to squeeze him. The ape must lack the ability to kill because he let the man go. With the proper prep talk he could probably eliminate the apes’ reluctance to kill.

Darik removed himself from his hiding place when the fight was over. He walked over to confront the ape and converse with him. “Mighty good job my friend.” He said knowing that the ape wouldn’t understand most of his words. However, the more sophisticated he sounded the higher chance the ape would think of him as a trustworthy, intelligent, friend. Hay the man is an ape afterall, they rank pretty low on the intelligence scale. “A piece of advice for the next time you get in a scrap in Sunberth. Kill them, because now they can gather their allies and attack you again.” He waited for a second, giving time for the information to sink into the ape’s unprocessed brain.

“However, having allies is a significant advantage in a faction divided city like Sunberth. So, my name's Darik.” He held out his hand in front of the ape. He didn’t know how the ape would react to his gesture but he had done his best. Darik hoped he made the right choice talking to the ape. This could go drastically wrong, but then again most things do for Darik. However, it could also turn out to be a very profitably mutual relationship.

Believing that Darik was another assailant, Jaiyahe stood back up, puffed out his muscular chest and raised his gigantic arms for a warning, however upon hearing words that were not in an aggressive and hostile tone like the previous individuals, he slowly relaxed back down. Upon listening to Darik's advice about killing them, Jaiyahe replied in a smug, near invincible attitude that came from the recent victory "They come back and me crush them more!". he sat back down trying to keep his most prized possession out of view from the sly human still believing there was more crafty meaning for Darik approaching. Jaiyahe began to drawn funny, meaningless pictures into the dust, water deprived earth, while carefully watching the strangers ever so slight movement and gestures that shone with nimbleness, from the top of his golden-orange eyes. Boredom settled into Jaiyahe's actions as he glided his fingers along the ground with unsuspected dexterity and grace confusing others as Jamoura weren't known for such traits, most people thought of them as stupid, unwise and senseless creatures but that isn't the case.

Understanding particular parts of Darik's speech, Allies, Significant, Advantage, Sunberth, Names, Darik, Jaiyahe managed to put them smartly together along with the gestures that came after it. Just because of his inability to correctly understand of the common language, didn't mean he was an idiot, in fact he was actually quite good at things like this, his intelligence was at a far greater level than people gave him credit for even if he didn't act as if it were so. One thing he could be boastful about however, was his immense strength and might, that complimented every powerful, bulky and prominent muscle in his body.

Seeing Darik's gesture of presumed friendship in the form of an extended hand, Jaiyahe thumped his chest and replied in a deep voice, "Jaiyahe!" while reaching out to connect the two hands together. How could Jaiyahe deny the truth? Having a person to call a friend in a god forsaken place like lawless Sunberth was a good idea.

Thantippe had long ago realized her mistake in coming to Sunberth, one day after she had arrived her arm and foot had been squashed and nearly fallen off! She was lucky she had left her mizas with Petry or else she would also have been broke. Not that she hadn’t given them a run for their money, she had sent her tiny Shuriken fly and managed to perfectly hit one target in the eye, her other throw had not been as lucky and she had only managed to hit her second assailant in the butt. It had worked well enough though, she had escaped up a drain pipe and now stock to climbing roofs and drainpipes to avoid the vicious people that littered the streets.

“Petry what are we going to do? It takes too long to travel by foot and the people here are less than willing to help me leave or stay!”Sensing it’s masters discomfort the small animal nudged his head into her lap and lay there content. She smiled, Petry was right, she had nothing to worry about, Sunberth couldn’t be all bad. Straightening herself out Xanthippe surveyed the area, the street she had hidden in was pretty much abandoned and she had deemed it a safe rest point. But now it seemed a commotion was going on below her.

Peeking over the edge of the building she layed herself out carefully and watched her eyes wide and fearful.
‘They can’t really mean to hurt the Jamoura…can they?’Her fears were confirmed when the men rushed in and began attacking, squeezing her eyes shut she didn’t dare watch, she wished to help but what could she possibly do? She could barely defend herself! But she couldn’t leave him! Steeling herself Xanthippe reached for her shuriken and opened her eyes only to find the men fleeing in terror. Letting out a soft cheer she motioned for Petry to follow and raced to the drain pipe. She wished to meet this Jamoura!

By the time she managed to work her small frame carefully down the side of the building the Jamoura was already in contact with another human, she paused nervously. He too wouldn’t try to hurt the large ape-man would he? Relief flooded through her when they spoke calmly and shook hands, upon closer inspection of the human she thought he looked like a kind individual. Waving Petry along she ran up between the two and waved before calling out her name.

“Hello! My name is Xanthippe! I’d like to join you if you don’t mind.”

The monster shouted out its name barbarically. The man spoke with its mouth open wide making his voice boom. The only bad thing about open mouths is objects tend to fly out of them. Holding true to this theory, a bit of the ape’s spit hit Darik in his face. After Darik performed his handshake, he wiped away the water with his shirt. He wasn’t going to let simple salvia stand in the way of a fortune!

He decided to defend his point pf view, by giving the ape a little reality lesson about Sunberth. “Of course you could probably destroy low rate thieves like those guys but when you meet a real one you will be in over your head. Then even a massive man like you will be screwed. But your lucky, because I am your friend, He stressed the word friend, making sure the ape would pick up on the importance of the word. ”I will hunt them later for you, so they can’t spread the word.” Not really, he didn’t intend to carry through on his word. He couldn’t waste his time trying to steal from people with no money. Now the ape was a different a matter, it had a lots of mizas.

”Curious minds have curious questions, and my mind happens to be very curious. So I have a question, what other skills do you posses?” He decided to elaborate incase the ape didn’t understand the word. “Like one of my skills is swimming.” While he said the word swimming he added actions to reinforce his words. The ape seemed to understand better with actions than words. He swung his arms back and forth pretending like he was swimming on land. After a few seconds, he stopped and continued his line of questioning. “So, what kind of things can you do?” This was very important because his whole plan could change depending on the apes answer. The only thing all of his plans contained was him ending up with more mizas than he had started with.

A rodent and a stick figure approached them while Darik was talking. The stick figure looked like a doll except her skin was an odd shade of orange. Darik had seen these before, their name started with a P. Not Priskil, but Peacocks! Ya, her race were called peacocks! The peacock waved its arms, yelling in a tiny voice trying to get either of their attention. He didn’t want someone else tagging along in their adventure because their business was suited for two people only.

“Stupid rodents, they infest the city of the Sunberth.” He said aloud to the ape trying to make sure the ape was paying attention to him. He aimed a kick at the rodent meaning to send it and its rider flying. He hoped that the ape was too caught up in its thought process to notice the living being on the mouse. Darik didn’t want to reveal his true colors so early in the business process!

Understanding what the man was asking through once again picking out words and phrases, the gestures made it even easier. "What im good at!" he thought in his native tongue being sure of Darik's question. Smiling of the way to make a lasting impression, he stood and straightened himself up, reaching his maximum height that towered over the now, small man. Jaiyahe then went and gathered a study rock that was nestled between two houses, lifting it up he noticed it was about four and a half feet in height with a similar width, "Perfect!" he thought with echoing arrogance. He then placed in front of the nimble man. Raising his gigantic, hairy arm, he brought it crashing down. With a forceful boom that shook the ground, dust flushed everywhere. After the dust cleared, all that remained was crumbling, little bits of stone being brushed aside by the breeze that grew stronger during the elaborate escapade. Knowing he wouldn't be able to impress Darik with his poor linguistic ability, cunning or wit, he knew for a fact he'd be able to impress him with his immense strength and might. Proud with his performance, he took up his fist and smiled at it, showing off his bright, white fangs and his obvious joy.

Then Jaiyahe too, noticed the tiny, sweet, orange colored Pycon that ran in between the two, she looked the exact same as a little doll or girl. Emotion swelled through him as he felt an instant connection between the too. "Hallo" he said with a warm, genuine smile as he tried his hardest to pronounce the word around his mouth. "Little one" he then said with a lighter tone of voice and another smile, so not to frighten her. Ignoring Darik as he spoke, Jaiyahe continued to watch the tiny Pycon with fascination only to witness something horrific. He saw Darik blatantly kick the small girl and her pet away. Anger rose deep within Jaiyahe, roaring with resentment he grabbed Darik by his shirt, lifted him up and raised his massive Jamourian fist, hovering it over Darik's face, only waiting for him to give him a valid reason for his ruthless action.

"Why do you hurt?!" he shouted with a profound bitterness, only just glancing with his golden-orange eyes, at the little Pycon to see if she was wounded or injured.

Xanthippe had watched the giant smash the rock to dush with ease and her eyes widened considerably. ‘Oh my. Jamoura are strong!’ She thought, as a small grin grin crept across her face when the Jamoura smiled, from the looks of it he liked her and he seemed kind; the feeling was mutual. He could maybe be a companion of hers, a friend. A smile bloomed across her face once more and she waved her arm and opened her mouth to speak when a flash of a boot cut into her vision.

As her body flew through the air she felt Petry’s patagium wrap protectively around her, effectively dulling her impact. Horror filled her small body; it was all she could comprehend. “Petry!” Her terrified cry startled even her and she pushed herself out from under the small animal. “Please don’t be hurt Petry!” Patting down her friend, Xanthippe would have cried if she could have, instead she steeled herself running through her knowledge of Sugar Gliders and to her immense relief he only had a few scrapes and bumps. She could heal those wounds easily with some herbs and salve. Checking herself quickly she found she only had squished her hand slightly, flattening it into a nice sized pancake looking thing. She would need to eat a bit more but she would be fine. Finished with her inspection she flung her arms around Petry, hugging him around the neck in a fierce grip she turned to face the human, fear coursing through her.

To her surprise the Jamoura held the man by his collar his fist raised,
“Why do you hurt!”A feeling of safeness came over her at the large Ape mans words and she ran towards the Jamoura, making sure to keep herself as far away from the man’s boot as possible. “I am alright! See? Only Petry is a little hurt, please don’t fight, I’m sure he did not see me.”

Though she knew she was lying to the kind Jamoura she couldn’t help it. She refused to believe the man was completely bad. All humans had good and bad. There was good somewhere and she’d forgive him only because Petry was not devastatingly hurt. Besides she would not leave now that she was not sure of the man’s intentions, he could hurt the Jamoura! She may be small but the Jamoura had stood up for her and she would do all she could to protect him as well. And she was very interested in his race. Scooting ever closer to the Ape like man she leaned her hand small hand on his large foot but kept her cool gaze at the man currently lifted in the air. She would let them decide what to do from there but inched her other hand to her weapons. If they fought she would fight with the Jamoura.

Darik didn’t expect to get any useable skills out of the gorilla. His prediction was spot on. With a sigh he decided to go with his original plan. It was also his best, most finely crafted idea. Before he could continue his thought process, he saw the ape crash a rock into little pieces. Now his original plan was foolproof, with a man like this that he couldn’t lose! The apes’ arrogant smile was infectious. Darik lips started to form into a grin. He was already imagining himself floating in endless mizas. Then something even better happened, his kick hit the rodent head on. The little rodent ended up protecting the Pycon so its rider didn’t die. That’s a shame, he heard that killing a Pycon is really fun. Ohh well, he will find out if that is true some other time. He had some money to make.

It seemed that his actions always carried consequences with them. The ape dude grabbed him with by the collar. With one heave, the ape lifted his feet straight off the ground. He struggled to not squirm. It would not look very good on his character if he did. He kept his relaxed and dignified attitude despite his natural urge to struggle. He then spoke in a very responsible tone with the intent of trying to convince the ape. “Hurt? I didn’t hurt anything, rodent’s bodies are very resilient to damage. It’s not like I gave any lasting injuries.” He pretended to have his eyes drift to the Pycon to the first time. "Wait ,were you on the rodent miss? By the looks on your hand I bet you were. I am so sorry, I kind of zone out when I see certain objects like rodents and my natural instincts are hard to resist.” It was hard to resist who he was, so he didn’t! ”It won’t happen again, I would never hurt a living creature on accident.” Yep, he was speaking the truth there. He never hurt anything on accident.

”Now, can we please discuss my plan like civilized humans instead of barbaric apes. No offense intended of course. But you know it doesn’t look very good on your race if you just randomly grab people for no good reason. Not that defending other people is a bad thing but in this situation we could have just talked. Talking can solve problems that action could only escalate. Now that this whole misunderstanding is solved can you lower my two feet on the ground. I will admit I am a tad afraid of heights.” Its so sad he had plans for the ape. If he didn’t, he would have stabbed him straight in the eye. No matter how fun it would be, it would kind of ruin their business relationship.

oocBeen three months, time to finish it.
Holding onto Darik too long isn’t a smart thing to do. In fact, its one of the dumbest things you can ever do. Usually it ends up with the attacker’s body in a ditch in one of Sunberth’s many alleys. Also the body would be found disfigured from torture. Get what I am saying? Okay, maybe I am exaggerating Darik’s capabilities but you just don’t hold onto him!

He withdrew his dagger, a masterpiece in its own right. It’s pommel was only half full with gold mizas so the balance was off. But that shouldn’t matter in close range like this. He used it to stab directly upward into the apes’ hand. As it bellowed with pain it dropped Darik, and the pycon. For extra emphasis Darik lunged into the ape’s chest with the dagger. It wouldn’t kill the ape, but it would probably stop him from giving chase. Let this be a lesson” He drove his dagger just a little bit more in the ape’s skin. “to not touch Darik.” Darik turned around and got a few steps before the ape could retaliate.

Now everything was all fine and dandy expect a Jamoura was really pissed. It was so mad it ended up dropping the pycon. The rat, scared from the drop, scurried in front of his feet. Unlucky for that rat, Darik’s feet started to pick up their pace. He ended up booting the rat into an adjacent wall. If it lived the first time, it would probably do the same the second time.

As Darik ran he took a look back and saw the ape was following him. Darnit, the second stab hadn’t done anything! In fact it seemed to be going faster. It was recklessly bounding through the streets not caring who noticed. Darik pushed even harder, he didn’t want to be on the end of that ape’s rage. You would think Darik would have surpassed the ape easily because he ran a lot, but that wasn’t the truth. The ape was big, and it was wounded. Wounded humans are slow, wounded animals run faster than the wind on a windy day. Soon though, the ape started to fall back. Knowing this Darik started to speed up faster. Why didn’t he slow down? Because it could all be a trap to lure him into a false security. Soon though, the Ape completely disappeared from his view.

Darik slowed down form a canter to a walk. Well, that didn’t turn out how he wanted. That actually could have made him quite rich if the ape wasn’t so morally right. Also he found something about himself, he really hated rats. His dislike was so great he was tempted to run back just to kick that pycon on the rat. Ohh well, that can wait another day. Time to find something else that could make Darik rich. Maybe he could make a rat extermination business?
