Would that reference happen to be from Atlantis? :)

Friendships As Weapons

Lets face it. Sometimes people get jealous. It happens a lot among women especially. Girls will flock around someone and then start doing this thing I'm sure psychologists have a big fancy name for but I call 'displaying'. They'll get sickly sweet, tell the person they are about to 'display' that they have all sorts of problems, that 'displayed' person feels bad for them and then hangs out with them and does things for them... then secretly usually without the 'displayed' knowing it, they use the 'displayed' as a weapon to hurt others.

"OMG I just had the best longest talk with 'displayed'. You wouldn't believe how much fun 'displayed' and I had at the mall. To bad you weren't with 'displayed' and I on tuesday!"

This happens within Mizahar as well. Popular characters get pandered too and then displayed unwillingly to boost other's popularity or to flat out hurt.

It happens a lot. It happens with our younger crowd, with our insecure crowd, and with our newcommers who are too busy being awed by some older badass (tm) character to understand that they are being gathered to simply be used as 'displays'. It also happens with people that used to be close and now aren't due to one falling out or another... then those ex-friends constantly 'display' new friendships to others either to hurt or to show the old friend that they have moved on and its okay and they're fine and they don't need the old friend any longer.

I hate this. I hate being displayed. I hate it when I have in the past 'displayed' others. We're all guilty of it at one time or another to some extent or another. And the more insecure we are about things, the more we do it. But I'm here to tell you that it just makes you a little less of a person. And if you are doing it, even inadvertently, then you should stop. Why? Because its obvious to everyone around you right now that you are doing it and that someone is having it done to them. A good friend of mine currently is being displayed too by another person who seems to just be trying to hurt them and they are using a mutual friend to do it. It seems to me the only person that's truly going to get hurt is the one on display who doesn't know they are now being used as a weapon to punish an ex-friend and hurt them like they think they were hurt by the ex-friend in the past just because the friend stopped being a doormat. And why would they get hurt? The person who isn't involved but is being displayed? Because when you are used as a weapon, even in this so out of the normal way, you get resented, and eventually when people look at you they stop seeing you but see only the weapon. And to me that's stealing something valuable from the 'displayed'. It's stealing their carefully cultivated and developed identity.

I also think the worst part is that 'displayed' person after a while loses their identity. Instead of who they are, their personality, their achievements (PC wise) being what you think of when their name appears, it ends up being 'Ugh' or *eyeroll* or some other sort of negative connotation, because the jilted can no longer see them the same anymore. Doubly not fair for the person if they haven't asked for it.

1. I agree with you.
2. I agree with Julie. She took the words right outta my mouth.
3. I like Caelum's horns.
4. They're STILL trying to toilet train me.
5. How does that make you feel?
6. I hate odd numbers, so here's a bonus.

I have something to share with you:

Chocolate Cupcakes with FLAMING Strawberries. No, seriously. Perfect for Christmas, I think, and they reminded me of you. So sweet and satisfying, and yet with a sour/hot side.

Don't take that the wrong way. It just means I love my Miza Mommy. :)

Happy Holidays, and maybe the arrogant bastard douchebag AIMers will find it in their hearts to annoy someone else for a change.

Response!

I feel slightly warm and fuzzy. I also sneezed a few times because I just came in out of the cold. I'm going back out in it in a few minutes too, but a great person and her great person hubby just came over and gave me cookies and bullets for Christmas. What a wonderful thoughtful present combo! I couldn't leave either one out in the cold.

My yard remains are getting burned today if it kills me. It might kill me. Its cold. But next week we're supposed to have lowland snow and Mr. Ugly, my hubby's pickup, is filled with ripe wonderous horse manure... so I have to clean out things to put manure on things... and then there's stalls to do.

I hate having one day off. I hate seeing good friends and not having any time to spend with them. Dec 19th cant come any faster. Dec 18th is the last day I'm on this hellish shift. I also was informed we get SAT/SUN/
MON off for Christmas which makes me thrilled. I want an Alpine (hot cocoa and peppermint schnaps).

Yep, that sums it up. That's what I'm feeling.
