Nathan didn't understand the way Kelwyn worked sometimes. Maybe it was because he was a follower, but Nathan felt like he was being thrown into situations that he had never been in before. Nathan had been cornered in an alley, and lived. He left home young, never knowing where his next meal would come from. But Kelwyn probably had noticed the first time he blushed in front of a girl, and knew they could exploit it. And they were doing so by making the teenager walk through a city he was unfamiliar with all these beautiful women out and about. Why couldn't one be ugly, so he could ignore that one, focusing on another? Instead, Nathan felt like a child with an entire table of candy in front of him. All there to look at, without any clue which one he wanted. As a child, he didn't understand his father's contant sayings about women, but the one that went "women are both a blessing and a curse" was echoing in his head. And he didn't know which category he fell under. Taking his mind off of the Konti, he focused on the bridge where his last signpost was resting. The bridge was in the shape of a lizard. Except it had two heads at the front and back. Nathan was so caught up in its beauty that he walked up the bridge without planting the final sign he had. He didn't pause at the head because those emerald eyes looked like they were staring at him, and those fangs appeared ready to eat him. He didn't think the bridge would gain life and attack him, but after one day in Mura, he wasn't going to take anything for granted. But as he continued up it, he noticed all of the gold inlay, almost like scales of the lizard. And at the apex of the bridge was the shop his signs were leading people to; The Silver Velispar Emporium. Nathan was astounded at the fact that someone would actually put a store on a bridge. But the boy continued walking, only glancing at the tables laid out in the front. This didn't stop him from catching a whiff of a new aroma. It was like vanilla, but better. It was something Nathan had never smelled before, and it nearly drew him to the shop. But a group of Konti was standing over there, and Nathan didn't want to get caught by them. But that didn't stop one from blowing him a kiss. But as if Kelwyn knew exactly what he was thinking, the women walked over to him. Nathan couldn't help but notice their graceful walk, their perfect hips, and their thin waists. None stood taller than him, but Nathan felt like the chicken cornered by the wolves. And he was enjoying it. And then the one who blew the kiss at him whispered in his ear, telling him that he had missed a sign. The woman's sing-song voice, along with their giggles, was enough to heat Nathan's cheeks. And he knew himself well enough to know his face was as red as rubies. If he was unsure before, Nathan knew now. He was cursed by beautiful women. Nodding and mumbling thanks, he headed back to put the sign up. But he stopped outside the store. Maybe it was his defiance to being bossed around by women, or maybe it was something bigger. For some reason, he felt pulled to the store. As if a higher being wanted him to buy something. Could gods control their followers to the point of making them buy something, or was it something bigger? Nevertheless, Nathan spoke to the woman outside watching the tables. "May I ask what you sell here? I'm a tourist, and don't quite know everything about this city, and what I may find." So while Nathan waited, he scanned the tables. What would the teenager find to buy? |
