Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Meera could tell that the issue weighed heavily on Aren's mind. She gave a small squeeze against his hand to prompt him that it would be alright for him to share, and complemented it by offering him a small smile. She could tell that what he said "didn't matter", did in fact matter to him. If they were suitors, shouldn't she share in that burden? After all it was only fair that he share, considering that she shared her own.

They were getting close to the sweet shop and time was running out, Meera thought, for Aren to tell her. She shouldn't press him anymore, she should be nice and not push the subject. Unfortunate for Aren, he had selected a woman that was stubborn, but fortunately she did her best to curb the urge to interrogate. She instead did a method that was famous for her gender to use: guilt.

"If no want to share, is okay. I only tell you my secrets so to be closer. Is okay if you no want to be close..." Her voice trailed off and gave a hint or more of playful teasing, as though the guilt trip she implemented was trivial, but it was only a defence mechanism in case the method backfired.

"Is like child, cannot distract you from sweets." Meera laughed.

"I..." Meera's words concerned him, even if she seemed to be teasing just a bit. She was right, joking or not, and the truth was that Aren, at this precise moment in time, was teetering on the brink of confessing. It wasn't just his past he was going to tell her about, either, but all of it, every single damn thing.

In the end, a half century of stoicism had not been undone by the smile of a tiny human girl, but only by the narrowest of margins, "...admit I may have a bit of a sweet tooth," Aren said, realizing that Meera had given him a way out, intentionally or not.

"It seems that my claims of perfection may have been premature..." the akalak gave a relieved smile, yet still managed to simultaneously sound disappointed that his image had been ruined by the revelation that he was a sweet hound.

"Worry not," Aren grinned, returning the drykas' squeeze on his hand, "when all of Riverfall lays bare of it's sweetened goodness, my one weakness will be no more!" he exclaimed, sounding overly grandiose and maniacal.

Meera laughed a hearty guffaw at Aren's speech. It felt good to laugh.

"Sure not just your only weakness...?" Meera turned to face Aren, a flat tongue darting out to wet her bottom lip. She used the muscle to pull in her fleshy pedestal and a tooth or two jutted out to nibble gently on the side of her lip. Her big doe-like eyes fell from his face to his mouth as she did so.

"Am sure am weakness..." She teased, her laughter a gentle breathy thing.

Aren did not smile, as his jovial tone seemed to fade. He looked down at Meera with steely eyes, but they immediately softened upon contact with the drykas' familiar features.

"You... ARE... weak," Seros said, with all the certainty of the rising sun. There did not seem to be any malice or deviousness in what Aren perceived to be his voice, much to his surprise, but that just seemed to make his words all the more disturbing.

"I know," the akalak unwittingly voiced his reply, in the form of a whisper.

For the first time, Aren did not seem overly concerned by this prospect. Meera made him weak, but not so weak that his darker nature had been able to take over. Perhaps, for all of Seros' bluster, the drykas did not have such an effect that the bastard could simply stride out. If he could have, he would have done so already, Aren reasoned.

"But, I admit, you are the one weakness I would not see undone," the akalak said, his mind returning to reality, as a few fingers washed over Meera's lips. The gesture, which he had taken to doing on several occasions, seemed to make him feel better for some reason he couldn't actually divine.

As much as Meera would have liked to discuss and push issues with Aren, she could only offer a simple smile and a final step towards the sweet shop, almost sad that their walk was over.

Whatever Aren meant about her being a weakness not to be undone however Meera was quite uncertain. Was she meant to die or thrive beside him she couldn't quite figure out, or if she would simply unravel like a ball of yarn. Her dark eyes looked to her dress, as though it would unravel that moment.
Her mind pushed her confusion away, and with it followed a shrug of her shoulders.

"Look like are here," She said matter-of-factly through a small sigh.
"Does not look too damaged, no?"

He could tell Meera was neither convinced nor satisfied by his reticence, but Aren appreciated the fact that she did not insist on the matter. Her smile, simple a thing as it was, served to improve the akalak's nostalgia induced despondency.

"Severed Heads... here we come," Aren mused with a grin, purposely emphasizing the implication that they were both going to be having some of the aforementioned sweets, assuming the bakery had any. He actually had yet to taste the damnable product, as the last time he had bought them, he did not have the chance to consume his purchase.

It hadn't been that long, but that day with Meera felt like it had occurred a lifetime ago. Now that he looked back, Aren recalled the fact that the sweets had been in his lap, but after the drykas panicked from their kiss, he completely forgot about them.

"I warn you... they squirt," Aren informed Meera, as he nodded in acknowledgement of Bastani's structural integrity.

Meera - If you ever come back, just let me know, and I'd be happy to regrade this with your half.

Very lovely, sweet thread. You both moved back and forth between sweet and serious in a very realistic way that was a pleasure to read. The whole thread was a great exploration of two people from vastly different cultures connecting on a romantic, but tentative, level. Too bad it didn't get to go any further.
