Season Overview

Fall 516 a.v.

The fall of 516 delivers something that Colt and his companions have not had in seasons: respite. Making port in Lhavit after half a year at sea, the travelers find shelter in the city of glass and starlight, and not a moment too soon; Kyla Snowhunt's pregnancy is coming to term, and there is no way to tell whether or not she will survive.

Fall 516 will be an interesting season, considering that Colt has no money after being enslaved. Job threads will, of course, be first priority, and will be a bit of a puzzle for Colt to carry out without any real equipment, save for the cutlass he nicked from the pirates. Should he find himself with any money, the first thing to do would be a) stuff for Kyla's baby, and b) stuff to prepare them for winter. The main theme for the season is gathering strength; now that Colt is in reach of resources, it's time to find necessities.

Skill-wise, morphing and pathfinding will be high priorities, followed by wilderness survival. I'd like to see Colt use all three to adapt to Kalea particularly as a hunter. Building proficiency with the Common language will also be important, and since there's a lot of sea travel ahead, Fratava would also be good. Since he won't get paid until the end of the season, it's also possible that Colt might resort to theft to keep his companions warm.

In regards to story, Kyla giving birth is probably the biggest one. After the job threads, that would be another high priority, and I'd prefer not to have it as a solo. On a broader scale, Colt will need help if he's to navigate Lhavit on his own–––PC help, hopefully, and that will force him to rely on others in a way that usually makes him uncomfortable. If he had trust issues before, they're up to eleven at this point; he needs friends, but needs to get through a whole bunch of personal issues before that happens. In other news, develop Colt as a surrogate father-figure to Kai.

This is my drafting table, for codifying things before they're placed elsewhere.

[center]Image

While the houses of the Okomo Estates are known for their... eccentricities, there is one house that stands apart from its neighbors by sheer plainness. Or rather, by how difficult it can be to see at first glance. This house in particular was built on the edge of the estates, out of the way and straight into the rock of the mountain where it is very easy to overlook. Built long ago by a recluse who hated socializing, this house has finally found itself in use again by a new trio of equally reclusive, equally anti-social residents.

If the outside is odd, the interior is even more so; devoid of typical Lhavitian style and colors, the house is arranged and decorated almost exactly like the pavilions of the Drykas. There are no chairs or beds; instead, furs are strewn about the floor to be sat on, with several brown pillows arranged around a low table in place of chairs, bedrolls in the corner, and supplies strung between the rafters. Everything in this building has a purpose, and everything can be packed up and moved at a moment's notice.

Faith

The Lore wrote:Characters can start with a Gnosis Mark by acquiring Help Desk approval. They can also receive unlimited level 1 gnosis marks throughout the course of their adventures. However, when they get their first mark, they should spend on average one year in real time before acquiring a second mark by the same deity and have approximately ten threads in which they show reverence to their deity and demonstrate their faith.

While Shahar hasn't historically paid much mind to actively praying to or thanking the Gods for various things, he is now fully aware of them as real, physical beings and will be much more interested in religion as a whole. Shahar is the sort to trust what he sees, and so in the past he really only thought of the Gods as abstract concepts, assuming them to be nothing more than personifications of the world to make concepts easier to convey. Now that he has seen divinity with his own eyes, this is going to change. This post is meant to be a tracking thread to keep tabs on who Shahar is worshiping, how often he is worshiping and what he is doing to demonstrate his faith, both for me to keep a clear picture and for any interested Storytellers to see what he's done in the past without having to dig for it.

Caiyha

Shahar's primary deity, Caiyha is by and large the goddess he is most influenced by. He is a marked Witch, and is therefore responsible for the ecological wellbeing of the grasslands in general. This in itself creates a fundamentally different relationship between Shahar and Caiyha than might be typical between a God and a follower. Shahar does not lavish admiration and praise on Caiyha nor does he even actively sacrifice or pray to her very often–––at least, not in the traditional sense, because he is usually far too busy working on the endless task of being a Witch. He serves the earth, and therefore he serves her; his worship comes in the form of pulling up weeds, nourishing native species, destroying invasives, taking care of dangerous djed collections, all the things that his gnosis mark demands he do. Shahar doesn't hold Caiyha on an exalted pedestal; to him, she is more like a highly respected employer or superior, one that he seeks to please because she is someone worth pleasing.

Traveling NPCs

Name: Tsarin Snowhunt
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Age: 1 season old
DoB: 15th of fall, 516 a.v.
PoB: Lhavit
Gnosis: n/a
Skills: (will grow into) 10 riding, 10 weapon: spear, 5 hunting, 5 singing
Third son of Kyla Snowhunt, Tsarin was born in Lhavit to a fractured family. His low birth weight made things easier on his mother, possibly even saving her life, but he is growing steadily with each passing season. He remains somewhat small, although not to the point of being unhealthy, and prefers to remain quietly in his mother’s arms while his sister gets all the attention. He does not cry often, but his owlish observation of the world around him suggests that he will be a good listener when he grows up.

Name: Priska Snowhunt
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Age: 1 season old
DoB: 15th of fall, 516 a.v.
PoB: Lhavit
Gnosis: n/a
Skills: (will grow into) 10 riding, 10 animal husbandry, 5 cooking, 5 storytelling
Between herself and her brothers, Priska is undoubtedly the most outgoing of the Snowhunts. She loves attention from family or strangers, and if she doesn’t get any she is more than happy to go wandering for it––much to the dismay of her mother. It is Kai more often than not who ends up chasing her down, so it is no wonder that she seeks his company more than anyone’s. Bold and courageous, Priska assumes that everyone and everything she meets is a playmate that means her no harm, displaying equal bravery in the face of Snow, strangers and eve animals of burden ten times her size.

Dead NPCs

ImageName: Daha Windheel (form. Duskrunner)
Race: Drykas
Sex: male
Age: deceased
DoB: winter 46th, 471
PoB: Sea of Grass
Relationship to PC: adoptive uncle
Gnosis: n/a
Skills: 43 hunting, 39 weapon: shortbow, 30 wilderness survival(plains), 21 riding, 19 webbing, 15 tracking, 10 teaching, 5 cooking
Daha was born a Duskrunner of the Emerald Clan, but a series of tragedies and disasters destroyed his family and rendered himself and his twin sister Jahia the sole survivors. Daha was a skilled enough hunter to make ends meet, and when his sister married into the Windheel pavilion, he was invited to come along. Struggling with same-sex attraction in a society that would ostracize him for it, he had no plans to marry or build a family of his own and therefore had little reason to refuse. More than one member of his new pavilion was suspicious of his orientation, even though no one ever spoke it out loud, and he found himself slowly turned into an outsider because of his lack of romance, while his twin was embraced with open arms. When Jahia died in childbirth, rumors surrounded her son in droves and titled him a "bad luck" child; there were even tales that the boy was not even hers by birth, but a bastard of his father's that had slipped in during the chaos. Whatever the case, Daha took his young nephew under his wing and mentored him in the arts of hunting and survival, quite familiar with the feeling of being an outsider and determined to help the boy make something of himself. He became a stand-in father figure for Khasr (now Shahar) until his untimely death in late 510 at the claws of a glassbeak pack.

ImageName: Myhra
Race: Kelvic, hyena
Sex: female
Age: deceased
DoB: spring 14, 488
PoB: Sea of Grass
Gnosis: n/a
Skills: 29 cooking, 24 childcare, 20 hunting, 15 unarmed combat
Myhra was born in Kenash and sold into the Windheel pavilion at a young age. She was given to the ankal as a gift, and was then the only witness to the secret tryst between him and a mysterious grassland woman that resulted in Khasr. Upon the death of Jahia Windheel, Myhra snuck the child into the pavilion and presented him as Jahia’s son. Although there were rumors, no one could find evidence to challenge it. Following Jahia’s death, the ankal fell into a brief depression that lasted a few seasons––not long enough to permanently destabilize the pavilion, but just long enough for the bond between himself and Myhra to decay from neglect. She eventually made another light bond with Daha, one of the pavilion’s hunters, and remained his hunting companion before dying of sickness in 507.

Shahar's Plotnotes

Postby Colt on January 5th, 2014, 7:23 pm

ImageThough the Riverfall trip sort of fell behind, the goals are still relevant. Here are some personal things I'd like Shahar to accomplish at some point in the future.

Increase Common proficiency at least one level
Get to the high novice side of herbalism and/or medicine
Mispronounce "Ethaefal"
Develop at least some cursory skill with an axe
Jump out a window
Participate in rescuing a caravan of slaves
Discover saddles and reins, maybe try them out. Not on Akaidras, though.
Buy a horse
Wash someone else's face
Eat fish
Realize that he can understand Tukant for some reason
