Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Barely had they returned to the room when they were being snapped at. Tamilin went still, fighting down a surge of indignant irritation as she gazed steadily at... Uruk, she thought. But then the mastiff rose and nosed the man, and she thought she saw some sort of change occurr, though she wasn't sure. Subtly she sniffed, wondering just how sensitive his nose was that he blew up over diluted alcohol.

But what he said next was clearly more like Rath, and she nodded in brief understanding before gathering up the bowls again and setting them on the side table before going and rinsing off her arms more thoroughly. When she returned, she mixed up bowls for herself and Tiva, setting them slightly to one side so she'd remember which they were later. Then she walked back over to the treatment table, and she voice was even when she spoke. Even a bit subdued. "I apologize for my ignorance. I've never had to tend to animals that were ill, and I really do appreciate your sharing your knowledge with me." She hesitated before venturing a question. "Would this treatment also serve for Savash? He was nosing her when she first came up to me, and I'm concerned he might have been sufficiently exposed..."

Her voice trailed off as she watched him attend to the hound, speaking with a kindness that she recognized. He cared for his charges. When his gaze lifted to her again and asked a question, Tamilin hesitated and shook her head. But then Serrif volunteered the information, and she listened to him as well. Rather vague sort of information. She could think of have a dozen different sorts of plants growing between here and Syliras that fit the description. It was safer though to watch the hound than say anything, and it reassured her to see how much stronger and steadier the hound seemed. "Well aren't you looking better," Tam murmured with a smile.

Rath tried and failed to keep from laughing at Beauty's antics and winsome nature. He automatically patted her head gently while watching her expression. She met his eyes briefly to show interest and intelligence, but didn't stare him down in aggression. Her thumping tail and playful paw were endearing enough but that doggy 'moof' was irresistible to any dog person.

"Alright miss talkative, it should have cooled a bit so you can have the broth now." With one large indigo hand, he offered up the delicious soup to her and gave the second bowl to Fidens.
"Let's all eat up now."

He sipped at the broth and gestured to the others to disperse and drink the broth, all the while listening to Serrif as he spoke. Rath nodded briefly, hoping that all the talk wasn't just an excuse to leave. Anyone could describe a plant's looks but knowing their properties was another matter entirely. The large Akontak had heard both Kavala and Raiha mention Artemisia as a great preventative and aid in healing-especially for horses. His boss lady was the resident horse expert so if she'd mentioned the plant, then it had to be accurate. He had no personal idea if that was the same plant the Drykas spoke of or not.

There wasn't much in the bowl and he downed it quickly. It only tasted of regular broth with a bit of a gritty consistency reminiscent of clams. He turned to the Drykas and suggested,

"I'm not positive but I think you're looking for Artemisia. The ladies mentioned that if you boil it in water and then put three drops of it in one horse bucket of water, it's a good preventative to give your animal once a month. I would think it would be about a cup in dogs. It also helps to quicken healing. Is that the one you mean? If so, then make sure to dip your feet in the disinfectant bucket by the door before you leave and again when you re enter." He paused, addressing Serrif. Rath waited for him to answer, then turned to Tamilin,

"If he's right about the plant Miss, that would be best for the horse to drink. DE is fine on the outside of a horse but if it's too dusty, that's not good for a horse to breathe in too much. For all their size, many horses are delicate creatures internally. Their breathing, guts and feet are always prone to some problem or another so it's best to be on the safe side."

He noticed both Fidens and Beauty licking dry bowls and he removed them before his dog decided it would make a crunchy chew toy. Rath hadn't meant to snap at or embarrass Tamilin. She was there to learn and asked good questions that most people didn't even bother with.

"Good questions, Miss. Your horse will want a quick rub down with the DE using a damp currying brush. Don't let it dust up too much and you'll probably want to apply the DE outside in the open air instead of the indoors. It'll just feel like an extra great scratching massage for all the itches they get."

Rath bent over the dog's face and playfully tickled the whiskers on the front of her muzzle, causing her to lick and raise her lips involuntarily. It gave him a brief glimpse of her gums returning to normal coloring, as well as being clean and slick instead of pale and sticky. Much better.

When Beauty stood up on the table it put her level a foot above Fidens and about 5 inches from Rath's face. He stroked the dog's fur and gave a good scritching behind her ears. No dog on the planet didn't like a good behind the ear scritching. He put two big purple fingers on Beauty's radial nerve to briefly check her pulse. After a one chime count, he was satisfied that the brindle was doing better. He stroked down the last of the water bubble under the skin of her neck, dispersing the rest of the cool water through her system. Still patting Beauty, he turned to Tamilin and commented,

"That's a nice Sykanis you have there. How old is it? You keep up with the teeth right? Good conformation. Too many people breed them just for color and don't pay attention to build, temperament or health. My boss has some top of the line Silkenas if you're interested. They're well-bred, sleek, reactive and swift."

He kept an affectionate arm around Beauty, stroking her long, soft coat as he spoke.

(When Rath speaks and when Uruk speaks.)

The Konti mistress of Sanctuary slipped into the room quietly and leaned against the door frame not willing to interrupt. She observed quietly, somehow slightly uncomfortable at the way Rath was stroking the hound. She knew he was simply trying to soothe the creature, but he also probably didn't know the dog was Kelvic.

Kavala did. It was her gift. The girls pain and her sharpness of thought was clear to the Konti, clear enough she realized the intelligence behind the girls eyes was not that of a dogs, not really, but more human grown sharper by masquerading as one even though she truly was a dog. It probably wouldn't have been something Kavala noticed except the dog was hurt and broadcasting pain and uncertainty, even fear. Sure, she was calming down, but kelvics were feral creatures and their level of calm was decidedly not a human level of calm.

As they all ate, Kavala watched, still remaining silent. Rath was asking questions and she simply let him. Everyone seemed calm, but truthfully Rath seemed to be making more of the parasites than necessary. There were herbs she could give both horse and owner that would rid them of the worms better than feeding them the razor sharp earth that ended to grind up important things along with parasites. And dusting a horse with it wasn't the best idea at all because it could tear up lungs if it was inhaled.

But like a good co-worker, she'd bring up the subject with Rath privately and gently steer the two women away from his advice without publicly discrediting him. She wasn't comfortable with the fact that he had a kelvic he didn't know about under treatment and no one had summoned her. She'd say something later because the dehydration was definitely something she could help with as a healer without having to add subcutaneous fluids which could cause an infection if the reeds weren't clean along with the water that was injected.

"Hello." She said abruptly, walking more fully into the room. "I'm Kavala. How are you all feeling today?" She followed up with, nodding to Rath and Serrif.

Again he couldn’t be one hundred percent sure of the name. So many plants had so many different names and the truth was that he had no idea what some of them were called. Everyone called plants different names; Konti called one thing, Akalaks something else and still another group of philters would call it another name. But every culture saw things differently, another one of life’s little quirks that he was very grateful for. If everyone was the same then there would be no real culture experience. Nothing that would separate the individuals.

Perhaps Rath was right. Maybe the plant he was looking for was named Artemisia…the name didn’t ring a bell but then again that could be what he called it. He looked somewhat confused as he mulled over all the details in his mind. He knew what he was looking for and that was really all that mattered. “That could be what it is called here. Naming is such a troublesome thing.” wasn’t that the truth.

Kavala then made a very measured entry. He smiled to her and gave her a nod acknowledging her before she introduced herself to them all. After she had done so he posed her a question. “Kavala do we happen to have any Artemisia about? Or do you know where I can get some? I could possibly go gather some if we don't have an easy way of obtaining it...or do you know of a substitute that is good for de-worming?”

Kavala nodded, walking forward. "There's some on the top shelf of the medicine cabinet dried leaves and stems I think. It should be towards the back. I don't have any root though. We've used it." She said, slipping past Serrif and moving around the table opposite of Kadrath. She gave Tamilin a smile, though a quiet one, and ran her hands up and touched the Kelvic, stroking her ribs, counting them. She looked with her hands where most of the healers present looked with their auristics. she was certain they missed nothing doing so, but she wanted to be certain.

"Malnutrition is the worst of her problems." Kavala said softly, frowning. Dogs were usually fairly good at scrounging food or finding a way to eat when no one else did. But this pup was unusual. Had she been somewhere that no one had allowed her to hunt and forage? Kavala knew the area and knew what it meant. She slipped her hand lower, across the girls abdomen, looking for any sign of pregnancy or damage, feeling with her gnosis rather than her eyes.

No, nothing. Good. That would have been her second thought. A pretty female kelvic dog running loose half starved might be an escapee from a breeding program in Riverfall. "It would be easier if you shifted." Kavala said to the kelvic, thus telling everyone in the room what she was. "That way we can really talk to you." The Konti said, her accent thick with Pavi but her common good enough to be passable. She repeated the words in Tukant just in case.

Tam fell silent, listening yet again as Rath spoke. To her, to Serrif. His answers were informative, and she mentally filed them away. She was distracted as Tiva finished her bowl and padded up to her, offering an expectant look accompanied by a wagging tail.

With a small smile Tamilin shifted her weight back onto one leg, holding her arms slightly out in a wordless signal that had the sykanis leaping upward to be caught up in the young woman's arms. She shifted the dog under her left arm, barely noticing the way those hind paws were swiftly braced on her belt, supporting Tiva's upper body with her left hand under the small dog's chest. Her right hand scratched lightly behind Tiva's ears, and they both seemed to become calmer. That was when Rath complemented Tiva, and Tam smiled a bit wider for him. "Thanks, Tiva's two, she'll be three in the summer. I've always taken good care of her."

Pricked ears and a turned head warned her that someone else was here just moments before a woman's voice rose in greeting. Tamilin turned toward the woman and paused, caught off guard by her unusual appearance, such that Tam couldn't immediately place to any particular race. In the silence Serrif spoke up, placing a name to this pale skinned woman. Kavala. Kavala, who answered his questions about the herb before moving around to the other side of the table. Who offered her a brief, quiet smile before attending to the hound on the table with the air and skill of a healer.

This obviously was one of the 'ladies' Rath had mentioned, and suddenly Tamilin realized why the name had rung a metaphorical bell. Kavala was the name of the Konti who ran The Sanctuary, which explained quite a bit. This was the name, and the woman, she'd heard about hand-in-hand with this establishment. Her interest was definitely piqued now, and she yearned to ask what was on her mind... but when Kavala spoke to the hound, mentioning shifting, she paused.

Well that explained a whole lot more! Curious, her hand still lightly petting the alert sykanis in her arms, the young woman looked to the kelvic, then up at Kavala. Her voice was quiet. "All that I know was that I found her like this outside the walls of Riverfall, out in the fields beyond Sanctuary."

Surprisingly, Rhy didn't sense that the Konti was there until she entered the room. Clips ears swivel and her nose is cast in the direction of this new woman, hastily trying to figure out who she is. Kavalas posture was calm and hung back despite her authority. But her authority was obvious. Doggy friend-or-foe calculation appeased, Rhy submits to this new checkup willingly. All the while mentally kicking herself for paying so little attention to her surroundings amid her pain, discomfort and the small group already in the room.

Then the Konti says something she doesn't expect, she outs her as a Kelvic. How she knew, Rhy hasn't the foggiest. She asks her to shift and Rhy begins to shake her head in a veniment no, but thinks better of it. Now that she is upright and alert she wonders if she can actually take that last step, as she has been working on for over an hour, and shift. Out of the sun and open grass, now seems as good of a time as any. She pushes and tests the edges of the transition as one might push on a bruise or an aching tooth, just to see if she's ready to take the leap.

A Kelvic can shift while sick, and really it is no different then the usual, but how that sickness translates to the other form can vary drastically. She has been fighting nausea for a while, and while it is rather difficult (and a lot more painful) to throw up as a bitch, it will be a lot easier as a girl. And easier can translate to uncontrollable really fast. And there is the exhaustion to contend with. Already what she would do for a nap and proper food right now is pretty extensive.

One final gruff of apprehension and she pushes herself over the barrier and into the transient state of her shift, and pulls herself back together into the form of a skinny dark-skinned girl. Her legs are folded under her and her head bowed as she takes a few seconds to fight the sudden spike in nausea and a wave of dizziness. Kadrath would find his arm (previously wrapped over the back and stroking the shoulder of a Luvanor) across the shoulders and stroking the arm of this new apparition. Once she is sure she will not be insulting their hospitality with her sickness across their floor, she looks up with a weak smile. The skin under her eyes is dark and swollen, and under the pigment of the skin on her neck, chest and back she is glowing a deep shade of red. The shadow of her ribs can be seen just above her abdomen and under her arms, and the hollow saddle of her hips is far too prominent.

Despite being addressed in Common first, Rhy speaks flawless Tukant. But the thick Pavi accent of the Konti is not lost on her. Is she one of her fathers people?
"Tam's right, I've been hunting in the far west field since mid-morning. I -might have- lost my temper a bit when she found me, and thats when I started heating up."

Someone might expect a greeting if you inject yourself into a discussion. But as far as Rhy is concerned she has been a part of the situation since it started, and is acquainted with these people. To her it would be like introducing yourself half way through a conversation.

Her happy smile quickly turns sheepish when she catches Tamalins' eye. "And thank you for stopping to help, and for bringing me here, and... well, thank you."

One ankle is held to her thigh and the other leg swings off the table just as her stomach makes vague noises of complaint. She opens her mouth as if to say something to Kavala, but reflexively swallows and wets her lips instead. She has a high respect for food, and asking someone else for theirs is pretty much the same as asking for their teeth. But she plows through anyway.

"My hunt didn't go as planned this morning, and I didn't actually... catch anything. I'm really hungry. Do you have any more food? I will bag you as many kills as you want in payment. I'm just really hungry."
