Description:

Sometimes, there are buildings or businesses that have been around for so long that they simply become part of the landscape, making it hard to envision the area without its presence. The Seaside Tavern is such a place.

Built when Thunder Bay consisted only of The Docks and The Processing center, the Tavern was the only place for the workers to take a load off after a long days work. Luckily for them, the taverns owner Gero also prided himself on providing customers with a quality product, whether it is drink or bread.

The Seaside Tavern is a small, simply constructed wooden building built on the sandy shores of the Bay. With only a very small-enclosed section, the majority of the Tavern is an outdoor, covered patio littered with chairs and tables. Originally painted a light blue, wear and tear over the years gave cause for repairs on the sides facing the Bay and the strong winds that blow off of it, leaving the tavern with a mismatched appearance.

Inside is where the drink orders are placed. The entire length of the interior is filled with an old, dark wooden bar. A menagerie of glasses and bottles stand on shelves against the back wall, giving the patrons a visual menu as to what the Tavern has to order. Raw seafood are available upon request and availability, but Gero has no issues sending customers to The Coastal Clam if they wish for food.

There are no windows in the Tavern despite the overabundance of glass present within the city. Customers have always raved about the natural feel of the place, sitting there with the gentle breeze on their faces while they enjoy their drinks, the company and the scenery. In the instance of bad weather, there are ingenious flaps of strong, water-proofed canvas that are hidden out of sight in the rafters along each side of the building. Usually used for tents, this material is highly durable and easily pulled down and lashed in place to keep the bad weather from destroying the interior of the tavern.

Outside, the patio is very simple. Stones from Mt Skyinarta itself make up the floor, flattened and worn by decades of feet, sand and open air. The chairs and tables are simple wood, sturdy and unadorned for practicalities sake; like in every tavern, tempers rise and things break. Since the customers of The Seaside Tavern don’t frequent it for it’s luxury, there is no sleep lost over taking the cheap way out with the replacements.
