Anselm the Fortune Teller
01-90 Fall 512
Marketplace in Zeltiva

OOCThis is an open social thread. Post here and I will start a new thread for the two of us.

As was his custom, Anselm arrived at the marketplace early in the morning to set up his tent. The entire front side of the tent was tied back, creating a three-sided covered space. Inside sat Anselm behind a small table. A black cane with a silver handle leaned against the table beside him. A single chair was located in front of the table. Other than that, the tent was empty. A sign hung above the entrance:

ANSELM THE SEER

Fortune Telling, 1 GM

Warning: Be careful what you ask for.
Disclaimer: The management assumes no responsibility for appallingly bad news.

ALSO A COLLECTOR OF RARE AND UNUSUAL OBJECTS
RUMORS OF SUCH ARE WELCOME

Anselm wore a burgundy silk robe with a blue sash around his middle. A matching hood covered his head and obscured his face somewhat in shadow. He did this not to hide the fact that he was Nuit, but to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to it. Besides, he thought it added a mysterious, almost spooky element to the overall atmosphere he was trying to create.
Perception is everything, he thought to himself as he waited for his first customer.

Savaria had been wandering the marketplace early in the morning in solitude so as to avoid the bustle of the place later on in the day. She most likely wasn't going to purchase anything but even so, she had carefully stowed her Mizas away and brought them with her in case anything of interest came up. The Kelvic turned onto the main street, moving down along the line of booths. The various sellers had just set up their tents in preparation for the day, and she was one of the few wandering around that early. She passed tent after tent, nothing catching her interest quite yet. Fruits, companion animals, weapons. She passed by all of it but didn't stop.

Idiot, it was a waste of time to come to the marketplace at all. There's obviously nothing interesting going on. Nothing at all. Nothing. She was about to turn around right then to head back where she'd come from, but a sign caught her attention.

Written in large letters hung right in front of the tent, it read, Anselm The Seer. Fortune Telling, 1 GM. Then there were other warnings and disclaimers written below it. The Kelvic immediately stopped in her tracks before turning right around. Well, that was something different. Fortune telling. She didn't know if it would be reliable or not, but the cost was something she could easily afford, and surely it would be interesting just to see what her fortunes could be. After all, she had a long term goal to explore the entire world of Mizahar. Maybe this would be able to tell her whether or not she would accomplish that.

Savaria turned towards the hooded figure right next to the tent, who was obviously the one called Anselm. "Sounds interesting. So you can tell any kind of fortune and answer any kind of question? No limitations or anything?"

5th of Fall, 512AV

To con a con has to be every cons dream. This is what Matthaus told himself. To be able to trick those who thought they were invincible, who thought they knew all the ins and outs of the trade. To be able to play game with those who knew all the rules and break every rule there was and wasn’t. That is why this man interested him. This man and his signs, the people that walked in happy and out frustrated or vice versa.

What lies could he tell that could hold that much sway?

And nearly as important, how much was he being paid?

A grin flitted across Matthaus’ features and he pulled his cloak over his head, tugging it tighter around him. It was cool this morning. He generally didn’t care for it much. Cold weather usually meant snow and he really, really did not like snow. Or maybe this man could tell him something. Something fun? Secrets he could only hope to find.

His fingers curled around his miza, the only thing he had brought today. The only thing worth bartering with cons, the usually didn’t do it for much else other than amusement. It was like playing a practical joke for more needed purposes and higher stakes. Whistling to himself he reached his destination, his head poking in from the side of the tent. And ironic or not the other man too wore a cloak, his reasons his own likely but probably not so different than Matthaus’ own. After all a cloak was nearly always to hide but to hide what?

“No other customers?” pleasant, light conversation as he eased in, “Wouldn’t want to walk in on anything being said.”

Always the good customer he slipped the allotted gold miza on the table while settling himself into the chair, his eyes roving over the other and trying to see through the hood. But it was to no avail, there was nothing but peeking’s of flesh and a figure within the cloak. “I can ask anything?”

OOCIf you're leaving on the 10th, I HAD to get one last fortune telling in while I had my chance! I love the interaction between these two!

3rd Day of Autumn, 512 AV
Early Morning

Tock was up before dawn, which was nothing unusual for her. What was unusual was her lack of energy. Ever since losing Mikey, she had felt drained. Like she had given all she had to give. She was going through every day, but it was like she was just forcing her way through the motions, a puppet without strings. There seemed to be no more meaning behind her life anymore than there was life in the carved wooden bodies of one of her creations. Nothing more than programmed responses. Moving on instinct.

She still had moments of joy, but mostly she was trying to bury herself in her work. Her day job, her statue, her workshop, her wolves. Some of the only real pleasant feelings she got were from her children. And, whether she was ready to admit it or not, her new 'house guest,' the Syliran Knight.

But her mind wasn't on pleasure today. She left him sleeping in her bed, simply planting a soft kiss on his lips, before she dressed and headed down to the marketplace. She glanced at the Glassworks stall across the street, but Monty wasn't there this morning. Likely he had more important work these days, what with his promotion and all. The kid behind the stall gave her a wave, recognizing her from her frequent trips to the Glassworks itself, but all he got in response was a curt nod.

Her destination wasn't the Glassworks stall, however, but the tent across the way. Fortune Teller Man.

She stepped in, sat down, and laid her gold miza on the table. He would no doubt notice a difference in her eyes from the last time she'd been here, just two weeks ago. Then she had been desperate, crying, and lost. Now she just felt dead.

She stared right into the hood, not giving any thought to thanking him for his previous advice. He had been right; she had needed to be by Mikey's side when he died. Despite how tragic the days that followed had been, she desperately treasured those final moments she'd had with her precious boy. Despite the pain she'd felt the moment he was lost, she was glad she had been there when it happened.

But now she had another question. Not one about fortune or fate. But one that only a creature like Anselm could actually teach her. In a cold, dull voice, she asked, "'Ow do I make a Nuit?"

6th of Fall, 512AV

Ignotus wasn't entirely sure why he was seeking the fortune teller again when he stepped into his tent. Perhaps his age gave him the wisdom the younger Nuit so desperately needed. Perhaps he just wanted a second voice, or simply required somewhere to think.

Whatever it was, getting his fortune told again seemed like a wonderful idea at the moment. He nodded to the familiar face, smiling genially, "Anselm, how delightful to see you again! You're doing well for yourself, I take it?"

There was no need for Hypnotism. Not at the moment. It was just a waste of Djed off the bat, and really, it wouldn't do to tamper with what could be something quite fine tuned; fortune telling wasn't something Ignotus was well-versed in. "I hope you're not busy. I need your services again." A gold miza went on the table. His face fell. There wasn't much point in pretending to be cheerful. "I need some advice on the future. Not Treavery, mind you. Just the sort of thing you seem to be good at."

Ignotus' brow furrowed. "You've heard of the expedition to Sahova, yes?"

2nd of Fall, 512 A.V.
Anselm's Tent
Afternoon

The summer had been harsh. Nothing went as expected for the blonde, making his mind even more confused and illogical then it already had been since the passing of someone dear to him. His thoughts and ideas were scrambled and easily manipulated to do others bidding, and Gale didn't like it at all. His past methods proved to not be affective at all. You couldn't avoid people all the time and trying to ignore your problems wasn't anyway to solve anything.

He knew this and had been looking for anyway to learn how to better protect himself physically and mentally. It wasn't all that hard to protect one physically. Learn some sort of defense or keep a weapon on you would work. Possibly even learn some of that petching magic stuff would be helpful but Gale wasn't fond of it and he wasn't just about to get involved in the chaos of it all unless it was a last resort. Mentally was the problem for the young man. His logic wasn't exactly parallel with another man's and his emotions often got in the way of things. He didn't always show how he felt but he was constantly having an inner conflict with himself struggling to make simple decisions. These conflicts never turned out well if one decided they wanted to use him in a con or something of the likes.

The man had willingly
took a man's life with just a simple nudge. He was dragged into an unpleasant Bar fight resulting in making his injuries worse from an dangerous encounter with an odd redhead earlier. Whatever Lhex had in mind for him, he hoped that it would lead to something positive this season. He didn't know how much more of this chaos he could take.

All this disarray of events had left Gale with a completely ruined shirt. It didn't really have any sides, having to ripe them off because of the redhead slicing his side and staining his shirt. Now that the shirt had blood and eye...pieces and stuff all over it from the murder of the sailor, his shirt now was useless to him. Unless he wanted his appearance to show the murderous side of him. But he didn't want to attract that type of attention, not really wanting to see what it's like to be on the other side of "the bars". Yes, it was getting colder and he needed a shirt. Yes, he had a cloak but said cloak gave off the same appearance as his shirt was. He'd rather get people looking at him and thinking of him as a scrawny sailor then an odd troublemaker. Especially now that he had something to hide.

His basic brown pants had some tears and rips in it but nothing major so at least he had some warmth in the cooling weather. His hands plunged inside his pockets to stay warm, scanning the streets. He had just gotten back from his trip to the forest outside of his home. It was the free part of his day, which he usually spent drawing or painting to get some money for his living expenses, since he had just finished
selling his Bay pictureI will make a separate thread for this. But he was hoping he would find someone that he used to know and was a friend at one point or another to talk to for advice. This wouldn't really work since Gale hadn't talked to anyone that was once friends since the catastrophe and he had no idea if any of them were around still.

Wait- what was that?

Hm. Fortune tellers. He had heard of what they would say. A large array of things from someone's future, past, present, and he even heard of some of them giving advise. Hm. Not his first idea of who to ask for advice but he supposed any advise would help at all. And it was funny. He just happened that he got a gold rimmed Miza for the
BaypictureMaybe Lhex wanted him to go to this fortune teller, considering he left his mizas back at his room at the Grotto. He supposed it wouldn't hurt to drop in and ask. The murderer knew he hadn't been very wise with his money but if it was going to help him not become someone's puppet it was worth it.

Gale had stopped, looking at the sign as he thought, his hand twirling the miza in his pocket. He looked towards the open entrance to the tent and turned, making his way around the people towards the entrance. The young man poked his head in, making sure no one was having their turn, saw the seat open, and entered, sitting down. He didn't think much about what the man thought of his appearance. He didn't really care at this point. He looked at the hooded figure in front of him and asked,"You take any questions, correct?" He didn't offer the coin yet. If the man wouldn't answer his question then it's clear that he was in the wrong spot.
