TIMESTAMP - 13TH OF FALL, 512AV

The sunlight rained down on the cool water's edge, making the sweat on the men's faces sparkle in synchronization with the water that they rowed their rafts and canoes on. The loud conversation, the amount of gossip and over-exaggeration with tales of wild feats or fishing stories of impeccable magnitude filled the sound waves, amazing atmosphere today for the Coolwater Hold as they hauled in large schools of fish.

One of the helpers on a larger watercraft, farther out away from the docks that was a big glob of fishing parties competing to snag fish from each other, was Veizor. It was moreso a long canoe that was able to hold about 5 men to help with reeling in the catch. The boy was whistling a merry tune that would pertain to an utmost dangerous scene of a book, where the heroes may be at the climatic battle of which all their hard-work and sweat had been justified in one swoop, or they were running away from a abomination of unruly power that had been contained by the gods to only be released on the heroes with no room for preparation. Or, it was just a song played by one of the Snowsong members. They were beautiful and majestic with their fingers, racing through the strings like a lover's silky hair. But that is boring compared to the scene thought up in Veizor's head, no?

"Alright, take your hand and spread them out across the net wide," began one of the old-timers, schooling the Coolwater Mage. Veizor already had some prior knowledge to fishing with a net, considered outdated by many, but it was good for him to reinforce it with proper help. "Then put your fingers between the holes and take a hold of it with a strong grip, make sure when you pull out the net that you take it out straight and not twist it around. Your fingers are gonna get strangled and lopped off, I'm sure we like all of our digits in tact," jested the coot before helping out Veizor with the first hauling in of the fish. They flailed more with each pull, out of their element. Their scales was like fire-works, different colors exploding at the touch of sunlight that beamed down on their helpless bodies.

This continued on forth about four or so times as they were having a good haul, before returning back to the docks to leave it to the stronger muscle men to bring it in. Wiping off the sweat from his brow, pats on the back and praise of hard-work was received as his crew members began to walk into the hold. Feeling inspired that if he could help this much without magic, the use of it would be more beneficial, in smaller quantities, to the hold and himself. Silently making himself presentable, changing clothes in his dorm and applying a fragrance as sweet as the smell of Winterflame Hold's cooking, Veizor marched onwards to Envan's quarters where someone was standing outside.

"May I see hold Leader Envan? I am here to inquire about a job?" he asked, the man looking at Veizor.

The man turned towards Veizor and looked him up and down quietly, his neutrals and devoid of judgement. The man was older, white hair crowned his head and wrinkles creased his eyes and mouth. The corners of his lips turned up slightly as his brown eyes began to change to blue, a calm color.

“I am Envan. May I request your name? And what sort of job are you looking for?” asked the man calmly. Envan was currently the oldest Hold leader in Avanthal and known for his wise and fair dealings with people. Coolwater Hold was often seen as a Hold of tricksters and those who found small ways to work around Icewatch’s laws. Despite this reputation the Hold boasted the most well respected leader who was regularly sought for advice by other community leaders.

EDIT: Fixed a grammar mistake I noticed. Can't stand it once I notice them lol.

Totally embarrassment was evident on the young man's face, sad and disappointed in himself to not have realized the face of his own leader. Not knowing much to do other than to continue in stride with his reason for being there in the first place as a way to find income, Veizor bowed with his right hand at his waist before coming back up again.

"I am Veizor, some call me Axel, sir. You look young as you are wise, as I have been told. I am sorry for not recognizing you, but I request that I may put my ability in water and earth Reimancy to help the people of the Hold with problems and making fishing trips or anything of the sort involving the water easier with magic. I am looking for a means of income, if that would support my reason for requesting a 'strange' job I suppose," said the Vantha, a bit of flattery in the beginning with honest intentions throughout the rest of the dialogue. Hopefully, he wasn't totally out of his mind or like a fish out of water with such a request. It was the best thing he could do, as his talent was in Reimancy. Despite magic being looked down upon for some reason at the time being, the icy-white eyes of Veizor never left Envan's gaze as he was determined to help his home.

A gentle smile spread across Envan’s lips and his eyes betrayed his curiosity. Reimancers were fairly common in Avanthal though few sought to put their arcane hobby to work. It was dangerous stuff and needed to be treated with respect, that much Envan knew. Coolwater Hold had suffered greatly from the Djed Storm of 512 and could use all the help it could get, even from wizards.

“Reimancer work is tough and serious business. Tell me how you will ensure that you do not, oh what is the term you wizards use, oh yes, overgive and go crazy on us? Reimancy could be of great use to Coolwater but I want to make sure all of the Hold, including you, is safe.” Envan said with a firm tone. This was a serious job and he wanted to make sure that Veizor would take it as seriously as he needed to. If the boy overgaze and died Envan would feel responsible for giving him the right.

“I shall also need an example of your abilities. I would like to see that you are able to control your power and that you appear knowledgeable enough about it. I don’t want to send a first-time magic user out in a boat with a fishing crew, it would be dangerous for you and for them. If you can prove to me that you will treat this job seriously and that you have the abilities to do it, then I will give it to you.” Envan instructed. Though he did not place the greatest of trust in magic he would not allow his personal prejudices to inhibit his Hold members, especially if one of them was able to provide a great service to the rest of the Hold.

Veizor was not offended or caught by surprise to the perceived nervousness and caution of Envan. Magic was a force not to be reckoned with ; without proper knowledge and a sliver of common sense, the repercussions were widely known as disastrous due to over-giving. The closer you were to it, the harder it was to escape the temptations to craft more complex combinations or perform grandioso maneuvers in replacement to simpler magic that would still suffice the situation. A softened smile showed on the Vantha's face, happy to know that he was considered for the job. But then, it was true what the wise man had said ; he could not endanger the lives of valuable fisherman and of himself, so maybe it was best to really check his own real abilities and not consider making shows and playing puppets with water granting him the title of a "wizard".

"I am agree with your concern, sir, so I was wondering if I could start out on a trial ? Small jobs to show you I have responsibility in this kind of work, despite my age. I am willing to prove that I am capable of helping the village, and any method you think would work is fine by me," stated Veizor in his best manners. Eye-contact throughout, passion was resonating with each word while desire was given off by the color of his eyes, now mostly blue with a whiteish tint. Magic had a place in the Coolwater Hold, the Vantha made sure it would soon have a future.

Envan nodded, surprised that this young man was taking the issue so seriously. He dealt with the recklessness and foolish confidence of young men every day and helped to clean up the consequences. It impressed him that Veizor would be willing to submit to a trial term of employment instead of demanding full recognition of his abilities.

“I think a trial period is an excellent idea. A good way to make sure this is the right fit. And to make sure you aren’t overextending yourself. I want you to take regular breaks for rest, you hear? I will speak to the captains of the fishing boats and let them know you will be around. Feel free to try different things and work with different people. I suppose that’s the freedom of the trial. Once you’ve proven you can handle this and not endanger anyone, including yourself, we can see if there is a specific place you fit in. Does this agreement suit you?” Envan spoke slowly and clearly to ensure that Veizor had caught everything he said. This was important business and he wanted to make sure he had been understood.

There were many possibilities for what a Morwen marked water reimancer could do. Envan knew it would be beneficial to have someone aboard the fishing ships watching the ice situation so the others could see to fishing. Ice on the sea could trap a ship. Perhaps he would even be able to help with seal hunting in the Wastes, block up some of their exits to force them through the holes the hunters waited at. The possibilities were only as limited as the creativity of Coolwater. And Envan knew how creative their Hold could get.

With a gleam in his eye, a chance to prove himself was very welcomed. Axel thought to himself in his own little world, thinking of all the connections, stories, tales, deeds and fun he could weave if he could gain the position he wanted. With a simple bow and a clap of extreme enthusiasm, Veizor looked directly into Envan's own brightly colored eyes. "I will follow all your instruction, with the my best efforts to gain the trust of my fellow Vantha's and yourself. May I bid you farewell, thank you once more for hearing me out!" Said the black haired Vantha, quick on his feet after accepting the hold leaders own farewells if given any, before heading out to the inn. Maybe he could find out if a spot was available for a crew that wanted to give a reimancer a chance, use his abilities to catch more fish or steer them out of trouble.
