27th of Fall What was he doing here? The question had wandered through his mind multiple times since starting out on this quest, if one could even call it that. They had thrashed their way through more undergrowth that he cared to think of and had done an awful lot of walking, but that seemed to be about it. And the Knights were everywhere. There were few things in the world that he disliked more than those walking tin cans with sticks up their asses, and he couldn’t even turn around without seeing one of them. He was supposed to have escaped Syliras in all its tyrannical glory, and it suddenly seemed as if he was going through the first hellish years of his life all over again. Not that he’d ever admit it, of course. One of the last things he wanted was to have their swords pointed at him. Again. The sun had descended hours ago, leaving the camp in the dark of night. He sat by the remains of the campfire, staring into the embers and occasionally throwing in an odd twig or leaf to watch them burn. He knew he should be sleeping. Tomorrow would be a long day of walking. Just like yesterday. And the day before that. And every single other damned day since he had left Zeltiva. But he wouldn’t give this up for the world. Now, he didn’t have to worry about the constant jostling and crowding that made him so nervous. Now there was just him, this fire and the few souls out and about for the same reason he was: solitude.
