The Kelvic was just contemplating how it might be prudent transform to lick herself clean when she heard the footsteps approach. The woman was pretty, though Sliver considered everyone save the homeliest more attractive than herself. She was slight, at first Sliver thought this might just be her build, but their was a fragile gauntness to her that rang of poor nutrition, not genetic make-up, and a twinge of sympathy reverberated through her being as the woman spoke. Perhaps that's why the woman had volunteered on this journey, the housing and food no matter the danger.

"When I think of people enjoying the sun, Konti always come to mind, and I doubt they ever take Syna for granted."

Her tone was amused when she spoke, leaning down over her legs and massaging out the knots in them, working on each arm afterward. She heard the beginnings of a potential commotion elsewhere, but chose to ignore it. For now she would be at peace with this pleasant stranger.

“So what if I like the sun? Got a problem with that?” The words came out of his mouth before he even realized what he was saying. Although he had been thinking it, it was not something he had meant to leave the confines of his mind. Even if he wasn’t injured, Balthazaar was not the type of person to openly challenge people to displays of physical prowess, the fight with Sliver being a rare occurrence. He could only imagine that he was still reeling from the psychological effects of being in darkness for the last couple days.

He decided that the best course of action in this moment would be to apologize to this man and hope that he wouldn’t escalate the situation further. Turning his body to face the man, he took a deep breath and began:

“You’re right, I’m sorry…it must have been hard for you…I can’t imagine having to go through life with a face as ugly as yours.” Once again, the words just slipped out before he could stop himself. Now, he really was in trouble. If this man had been looking for a reason to start a fight with Balthazaar before, he sure as hell had it now. The young botanist knew that there was no escaping his fate now, closing his eyes, he braced himself for what was about to happen next.

Sliver

The woman glanced at the commotion going on near them involving some blonde man and sailor but shook her head slightly and turned back to Sliver. She had dealt with enough darkness in the belly of the ship she had no inclination to get involved in anything less then pleasant.

“I don’t know much about Konti but I’m sure you’re right. I suppose the only people who would take the sun for granted is those who get too much of it though it’s difficult to think of such a thing. I’ve heard there is a vast desert in the far, far South so perhaps there they take the sun for granted. Or perhaps it just makes them love it all the more.” The woman paused a moment to smile and think.

“When I first came to Avanthal as a small child I wondered how all the Vantha and Kelvics could stand all that snow. Its just…. Everywhere! For a year or two I could hardly stand it but then I came to understand how integral it is to life there. Sure it can make things difficult but the bleakness also keeps the predators away and the city safe. Now that it’s all melted and the Icewall is down I sure hope they are safe.” The woman’s eyebrows scrunched together with worry as she contemplated those she left behind in the Everwinter city that didn’t seem so wintery now. The woman became startled and turned to stare as she heard a fist make contact with someone’s face.

Balthazaar

The man began to relax as Balthazaar started to apologize but when he realized that Balthazaar was in fact insulting him instead of apologizing his face went white with fury. The sailor was silent and stared wide-eyed at Balthazaar, his entire body shaking with anger. The man seemed vastly more upset then Balthazaar’s insult deserved, it was likely he was using the blonde man as a release for all the pent-up emotions from the storm.

The sailor made as though he were going to turn away then growled and swung back around towards Balthazaar. He pulled back his muscled right arm and quickly thrust it forward making sudden and painful contact with Balthazaar’s left cheek.

“Two of my friends were swept overboard and drowned transporting your sorry carcass! Now YOU can go through life with an ugly mug.” The sailor shouted right in Balthazaar’s face, in case he couldn’t hear the man standing only inches away. The sailor turned and began to shove through the crowd muttering curses under his breath.

Sliver nodded and smiled at the woman. She had never been to the deserts of Ekytol, a conscious choice that, but if anyone could take the sun for granted it would be a bunch of multi-armed snobs she supposed.

"I was not born in the snow, but I was made for it...if that makes sense. Coming to Avanthal was like returning home. I am sorry to leave it, but I know I will return after I have aided others."

She closed her eyes for a moment, then heard the very familiar sound of fist hitting flesh. She slowly rose to see what the commotion was about, willing to take a seat and watch the show when she saw the botanist's head bob back due to the blow. As if he hadn't had enough pummeling for one day.

Sliver jogged over, catching Balthazaar's shoulders in case the force had been too much for him, glaring into the crowd where the sailor was retreating. She made sure her voice was loud enough to carry to his ears when she spoke.

"Cause there hasn't been enough petching problems without sailors hitting civilians!"

She didn't move, acting as a potential support for the already injured mixed blood, or not if his pride prevented such an action. Either way she was thoroughly sick of their treatment upon this vessel, and if they were going to be this rude, they might as well give her the chance to be useful.
