Since You Ask, Most Days I Cannot Remember

Postby Coren on December 17th, 2012, 8:27 pm

Coren let a smile slid on his masked face as he felt the knot be undone underneath his ghostly hand.
That smile was quickly wiped of his face when the door slid open and a truly nauseating smell hit him in the face, once more he thanked the fact he wore a mask, since it at least dampenend the sickening smell a bit. Still smell or no smell, right now turning back was no option, at least not for him. So after letting his eyes get used to the darkness that lingered in the room he stepped inside, breathing through his mouth as much as he could to prevent him from horking up his last meal.

The hallway wasn't really strange aside from a lumpy shape atop of a chair, and it general darkness, the only light coming from a room at the end of the hallway. But since he didn't see it move he doubted it was the strange snake thing. But quite honestly he didn't want to leave anything over to risk in this situation. The mage had already made some kind of snake thing out of furs and who knows what else. Who knew what else was lurking in the shadows, waiting to spring at them. Even if the snake hadn't attacked them yet, he would rather be overprepaired then be caught by surprise.
He kept his astral body projected and once more reached inside his soul and called upon his djed, spinning the djed in the rather familiar way of a shield around his torso and head tasking to keep out djed and cutting force, he was facing down a mage so a bit of magical protetion was mostly a good idea.He still had to ration his djed, he didn't have an endless supply of it and who knows what the mage who created this thing had stull up his sleeves.

“Keep your eyes open for anything out of the usual.” He offhandedly mentioned to briar as he stepped down the hall, following his own advice as he got closer towards the lighted room at the end. Keeping a firm eye on the serpentine animaton slithering next to them as he did so.
When they ended up the makeshift workshop coren couldn't help but look a bit around in wonderment at the makeshift workshop. How pathetic was it about him when his own workplace was even worse then this bedroom rearranged into a workshop.

“Answers to my questions mostly sir animator.” Coren said in a polite tone. The man looked horrible in his eyes, and those shakes of him really did not bode well. Was the man sick or having troubles of over giving bouts. Or worse maybe both. “As for who I am, neither of us is with the icewatch and I am a fellow mage.” Coren just needed to calm the man down a bit, stating those two things looked like a good start.

BriarBriar, I am going to write a bit of your character’s actions in order to get this thread moving. If you would like to rejoin us again, please do. I will give you one week after Coren posts to post and if you have not rejoined us by that point I am going to write a reason for your character to exit the thread. Please PM me with questions or comments.

“What kind of questions? What do you want to know?” the man’s voice continued to shake and his red rimmed eyes flicked back and forth between Coren and Briar. He kept petting the fur snake in his lap, holding it protectively like a child held it’s favorite blanket. The man had forgotten about the chunk of icestone he had kept pressed against his side and has his body relaxed some the chunk slid to the ground with a gentle thunk. The noise was soft but the man startled as though he had heard an explosion in the distance.

“I don’t know what you would want to ask though. I don’t know very much really I don’t. I just live here with my wife and our pets, we have lots of pets. My wife loves animals.” The man’s voice shook even more now that the icestone dropping had upset him. His words were fast and rushed, he was almost babbling. His hand moved faster as he pet the fur snake, the man forced himself to take some deep breathes and calm his rapidly beating heart. He didn’t like visitors and the appearance of Coren and Briar had made him horribly nervous.

“I’m not sure about this.” Briar whispered into Coren’s ear. The situation was enough to make anyone second-guess their decision to be around. The animator before them was clearly unstable and needed medical attention, possibly more. They could hope that the man was merely over worked or possibly a little ill but there was no denying that something was deeply wrong with the mage.

Since You Ask, Most Days I Cannot Remember

Coren made a motion that Briar had to keep quiet. They were talking to an ill and mentally unstable mage, who from what he had heard had more animated structures laying around then just the furry snake coiled on his lap. Of course this was dangerous, but letting this go on was not only going to be dangerous to the man himself but also extremely dangerous to everybody in avanthal. What disturbed coren the most though was the mention of a wife, he honestly didn't think anybody with a significant other would be living in these conditions or would still be in his own home when this sick. The possible implications both disturbed and interested coren. Did he manage to build a human sized animation construct with a semblance of humanity? Or was the woman enslaved in his own home, or was she a mage just as insane as him. Well guessing without any hard evidence never said much.

“I actually did want to ask you about your pets. I never really saw such curious and magnificent creatures before in my life.” Coren said in a polite and kind tone, hoping to put the man a bit more at ease by talking about a subject that he knew and cared about. “They where quite intelligent too, did your wife procure them or did you give them to your wife? I'm quite interested as from where they came from.” As he was talking he focused a bit of djed in his mind, letting the aura's of the world dance more prominently into his view. He focused on the aura of the man, hoping to get at least a more accurate feel of the man, or be able to predict when he was going to go berserk.

OOCWriting a crazy man's actions is harder than I anticipated, if anything seems too confusing please let me know and I will try to clarify or explain in a different way

The man’s aura showed a moving mix of colors that combined and swirled around each other, representative of the confused and addled movements of his mind. The man was clearly disturbed by anyone’s definition of the word. The man’s mouth worked silently as he thought about Coren’s question and a response.

“My wife loved animals, she was from the Frostfawn Hold. She always brought home random animals but they made my eyes run and my throat itch so she took them away. I made these pets to keep her company…… I just want to make her happy.” The man’s voice was uneven and he sounded as though he might be choking back a few tears. As he mentioned his wife he smiled, clearly pleased by the thought of her.

“I’m getting a doctor, this man isn’t well.” Briar’s voice was low at Coren’s ear and he turned to walk swiftly away. Coren would have little time to react as Briar left and the man looked curiously at the fellow mage who questioned him. The unstable mage hardly noticed Briar left, his attention focused on the person who was asking him questions.

“Would you like to meet my wife?” the man said with a huge grin towards Coren. The man stood with the fur snake in his hands and bounced a little on his heels, like a young boy told he could go to the candy shop if he behaved well.

“Here, I don’t think she would like me holding a snake so you take it. She doesn’t like snakes, the slither always bothered her. Luckily there aren’t many snakes around here.” the man let out a rusty sounding giggle and handed the fur snake towards Coren. He had almost sounded half normal when he spoke, two men laughing about the silly eccentricities of their wives. The normalcy lasted for only a moment and he began to appear very nervous again, wrapping his arms around his torso and leaning down into a crouch as though he might flee at any moment. The whole situation was confusing and strange, the man’s actions highly neurotic and sudden.
