Completed Blades In The Rising Sun (Lexa Maze)

Kyra returns through the Wildlands on her travels and meets a katana slinger

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Kyra nodded to her question, another match would be to her liking and to test her skills without weapons was sure to be a new challenge for the young kelvic. "I agree, we should do this again..if we ever cross paths I mean." She had to wonder, over the years of the many people that she met and never saw them again after their first encounter. "Zeltiva? That is the city of magic, is it not?" She recalled meeting another some time ago who had said as much, but the name was lost to her.

However the woman's next words caught her by surprise and Kyra wasn't sure what to make of it. Lexa asked if she was a cat kelvic and this alarmed her. No one, save for the strange forest witch had ever figured out what she was just by looking at her. It was unnatural to say the least and she was now wary of this woman. Who was she really, and why was she so sure of what Kyra was. Even more startling, the woman mentioned the slave traders in Ravok, as if she was somehow inside the kelvics mind.

Something wasn't right...

Kyra was still very new to Hypnotism, and she was yet to come to using it often, but she felt that the situation was reason enough. She concentrated, pooling the djed from within herself and allowing it to rise and focus into her eyes and mouth. She breathed in deeply, calming herself and tapping into the flow of djed that she had released. "You are mistaken, I am not what you think I am. Look at me closely, my eyes may be of a different color, but they are no different than your own. You can see it, can't you? "

With a gentle smile, Kyra stepped a bit closer and lightly placed a hand on the woman's shoulder. "We have had quite a match, you and I...you must be so tired, as am I. Perhaps that is why you're confused?" The supposed random encounter had turned into something that was possibly intended all along. Kyra couldn't be sure anymore and she didn't want to take the chance.

Blades In The Rising Sun (Lexa Maze)

Oh gods, what is wrong with her? She'd ruined it all. This woman was wary of her now, she could see it through her smile. She was simply being curious, she had grown a liking for Kelvics and the woman's eyes had reminded her a bit of the Lynx's eyes. Oh gods what if she sounded like a slaver? She did didn't she? Her meeting other Kelvic's was meant as a comfort. She supposed kevics would be worried about telling of their nature. What was happening to her? She used to hardly talk to others, now she talked too much.

She backed up a bit, knowing she needed to work on what questions not to ask of people, and what was ok. Lexa looked at the woman apologetically. "Forgive me" she said genuinely "I did not mean to be so forward, I am simply too curious for my own good." Gods what could she say to defuse the situation "Disregard what I said, Kyra. I really wasn't thinking" she backed off and turned to her bag , keeping her hands busy so she wouldn't have to meet the woman's gaze, and pulled out her waterskin, taking a much needed swig "I'm sorry again, I must have been tired, like you said, would you like some?" She offered up her water, hopefully, as a sign of good will.

She would sigh and try to think of something else to say. Maybe she'd worn out her welcome, but she didn't want this to end on a bad note. Maybe she'd see Kyra again someday

Kyra smiled weakly as she looked to the woman. She wasn't sure of her attempt at hypnotism had worked or if the woman had just decided to leave it be. Either way, she was glad that she changed her line of questions. Kyra nodded and walked over, taking the water skin and drinking from it. She was tired, and their workout had her thirty as well.

"Thank you.." she replied simply and handed the water skin back to Lexa.

"You said you used to live in Syliras? Why did you leave?" Perhaps she was rude for asking questions when she didn't want to answer herself, but if Lexa chose not to comment, she would be offended. "Do you know anyone in Zeltiva?"

You Question My Logic? :
XP explanation goes here.

Notes: I would just like to point out, because it was mentioned in the beginning of the thread, but there aren't really any paths your PCs could have been following. There is the Kabrin road, which is a road, and Leads north to Taldera, South to Cyprhus, and east to west connecting Zeltiva and Syliras. If you are not on this road, then you are in the untamed wilderness. The closest thing you might find to a path is the occasional game trail, created by wild animals passing through the same place over and over enough to make a sort of path going short distances.

Also, regarding hypnotism. Being that you are a novice, you can't really just casually use it like that. Unfortunately, hypnotism has been abused and used incorrectly by many players in the past.. but, at least at low levels, you can't just make somebody believe something. Hypnotism is about layering effects. You have to use it on a person over time (be it a few chimes, or several days) and add layers of suggestion and emotional responses. If you read the lore on it, you will see that even with "sudden thought" it says it needs to be used at the right time. This is generally after you have spent time softening the person up with suggestions and emotional responses.

Lastly, regarding the combat scene. Kyra is a novice with the katana, and Lexa doesn't have skill at all in the bastard sword. While you were both good about mentioning how tiring it was, and occasionally mentioned that your characters didn't know what they were doing, your actual actions seemed to think otherwise. Disarming, easily blocking, all the fast back and forth fighting, the acrobatics. All of this is a bit more advanced than what either of you are capable of. In the future, just be sure to be careful about that.

Anyway, all criticism aside, I did enjoy the thread, and it's too bad it died out like it did. Looking forward to seeing more, hopefully from both of you, in the future, so keep writing!
