This shining population center is considered the jewel of The Sylira Region. Home of the vast majority of Mizahar's population, Syliras is nestled in a quiet, sprawling valley on the shores of the Suvan Sea. [Lore]

Standing back, as requested, Aren looked on eagerly.
"Ooooh," He vocalized, impressed by the strength of the little human.
"That must be the flux..." The akalak noted.
He recalled his mother telling him about the discipline on more than one occasion, but if she knew it, she never taught it to him. She would often note that he would be too stupid to learn it, or more accurately, to properly use it; something about hurting himself. It was just as well, since he wasn't particularly fond of magic.
"I hope you didn't hurt yourself there, friend," Aren said, honestly concerned for his acquaintance, briefly forgetting his paranoia.
From his very limited knowledge of Flux, his understanding was that it made you stronger, but not... at the same time. It was hard to remember the specifics of what his mother had told him, over half a century ago, even if magic related dangers always seemed to be what he best remembered of that time.
Fine, so some of what Atir said WAS true, Aren had to admit. Still, that didn't mean all of it was.
"So, you're training out here? Certainly seems like a good place for it," the akalak grudgingly admitted. It was definitively private enough, because who would be insane enough to knowingly walk into this labyrinth, after all. The fact that you couldn't leave, Aren thought, probably helped with concentration. |

Atir watched Aren's reaction, while relaxing his hand. Even though it was protected, the muscles in his hand were still unwinding from making such hard physical contact with the tree. If it weren't for the armored gauntlets, his hands would be bleeding from the splinters right now. Atir beamed at the akalak's recognition of his discipline, even if he didn't look too knowledgeable on the subject itself, Atir still took it as a personal compliment. He shrugged off the Akalak's inquiry over his health, pretending it hadn't caused any effect. Even though that was partially true, his muscles still had to recover from the rebound. He hoped that the Akalak didn't view magic too dangerously, as he seemed like a very nice person, albeit acting awkwardly at the moment. He was beginning to pick up some distrust from the Akalak, but he waved the thought away thinking he was imagining it.
Atir noticed Aren asked a question, and was quick to reply. "Oh, of course! It's so calm, and there's rarely a living soul to bother you. Lately, it's been great for training my shielding, as I need silence to meditate. However you're here today, what brings you here?" he answered, eager to hear why this huge Akalak was walking with no visible direction through the gardens. He imagined that Aren was on an errand and used it as a shortcut, or possibly he was sightseeing and didn't care where he went. He kept nibbling at his bread, which was still surprisingly fresh for being a day or two old, looking out at the gardens before him. To him, it was so beautiful at this time of day, when it was nice and warm, and the grass waved slightly in the wind. He could get almost lost in his senses here, just watching the movements of the garden, as if it were alive. He suddenly panicked if that was a possibility with magic, and laughed at his own foolishness. |

"I... don't know the city very well," Aren confessed, continually inspecting his surroundings. And fate was a cruel mistress indeed, to have guided him to this little maze of shrubbery he currently found himself in.
"Shielding?" the akalak asked, wondering what Atir was referring to. Initially, he suspected the man might be talking about the generally circular piece of metal one uses as the eponymous "shield", but he didn't see any such thing on him.
The young man seemed to know something about magic, so perhaps it was another discipline? Aren didn't know it, if it was, but it certainly made him curious. He knew there were many types of personal magic, but shielding sounded like a rather benign name for something that could probably turn your insides out, or something.
The fact was, Aren had a bit of a trauma when it came to magic, and he suspected every type was as dangerous as the last. It wasn't too far from the truth, as danger came hand in hand with any type of personal magic, but they were not all used for offense.
"What... do you do with that?" the akalak wondered, forgetting his paranoia and desire to escape the gardens, for the time being.
Shielding. It sounded like something you couldn't really use to hurt anyone, but he couldn't really be sure. |
