Airil, perhaps she might try to hide her race because Konti make good targets for slavers and the like...? It's always good to have motivation for behavior like timidness, and often that gives you subtext to work with, too. Like Sam keeps his windmark covered and his hair cut short so that people won't know he's a Drykas, though they usually figure it out if they see him riding or in communion with a horse. He's motivated by shame, so it's not just random. Unless you have a reason to be random. That sometimes works too. :)

You might realize that Konti have scales... wild patterning that trace down their necks, spines, arms, and sometimes even foreheads - almost everywhere that can be visible. Plus they have webbing on their hands, gills on their necks, etc. It's a little hard to hide, even though a PC in game already had herself convinced for a while that she wasn't... her name is Nel. I think everyone in game BUT her knew what she was. People are just going to naturally assume unless she dies her hair and darkens her skin somehow. I'm sure pale blond and platinum blond women get the 'Are you OMG a Konti?!?!" all the time. That would be a great character concept too.. a human that hates konti because of being constantly mistaken for one.

Character quirks are good though. My own pc hates violence, yet loves feeling pain. Her gift is animal empathy which extends to kelvics as well.. so she can tell how they are feeling and sometimes gets strong images from them. Her horse, for example, keeps firing pictures of big juicy carrots and apples at her whenever he thinks he can talk her out of one.

Please Note:
  • This pc is maxed out in Animal Husbandry, Medicine, Observation, Rhetoric, and Socialization.
  • Kavala a Master Teacher. Students she is teaching in thread can earn more than the maxium 5 XP per thread.
  • This pc has a Konti Gift of Animal Empathy. She has a superpower from a Riverfall city event that allows animals of all sorts and Kelvics (in kelvic form) to speak clear understandable Common around her.
  • Kavala is a Konti but was raised in the Drykas culture so her accent is entirely Pavi though she can speak Common, Pavi, and Tukant well. She's only conversational in Kontinese.

*is thoroughly enjoying herself*

Sam- I definitely agree with having good motivations for a character. For me it really isn't enough to just say "She's timid". I really enjoy giving my character backstory so it turns into, "Well she's naturally timid but these things have happened to her, turning timidity into outright evasiveness and suspicion". It makes things so much more interesting. With both our characters trying to hide who they are, we HAVE to get them together sometime.

Kavala- I knew about the scales and gills but I completely bypassed the webbing :o I bet that will make properly fitting gloves hard to come by, gotta go fingerless I suppose. I adore the Konti-hating human idea. It could be both frustrating AND humorous.

I think I'm in love...

It's a funny thing, I've decided what her mother's gift will have been and yet I can't pick one for her. I'm so indecisive.

Sam will be in Syliras until about Midsummer, I think, and then heading to Endrykas. But plans are always tentative, because who knows what will happen?!

I call my character sheet done, and I'm so tired after finally finishing it that I don't have the energy to even think of trying to start playing. I'll just bask in my accomplishments for now, I worked hard to get the graphics done the way I like them.

I'm more than happy to hear any comments anyone might have.

I think it looks beautiful. However, I'm a little concerned about your character's background. As the official 'voice of reason' here, meaning the one that doesn't try and pull punches or put rose colored tints on her words, here's what I think.

If shes timid and anxious and doesn't dwell someplace peaceful like Mura - but instead wanders - she falls into one of the classic stereotypes that really annoys me in Mizahar's setting. Basically - this is the frail unskilled beauty (unskilled by means of a way to defend themselves - no weapons, no magic, no allies) who wanders alone from place to place with no means of protection yet luckily enough remains unscathed because nothing ever seems to happen to them!

I don't say this to be mean. But the truth is, Mizahar's environment is rough. Slavers are all over the place. If they don't get you, the flora and fauna will. I realize you haven't placed any 'starting places' on your CS because you probably haven't decided on one - but be aware even in places like Syilras and Zeltiva a PC like this alone and wandering is incredibly easy pickings for a whole host of unsavories or even the environment itself.

Hmm, I do see your point, and agree actually. While her mother would probably have talked her way into a group, which I probably should add, Airil's not really the type and she probably can't afford to hire an escort, not that she'd trust them anyways. I did realize that I still have to explain how she survived the last 4 years of her life, I don't have a clue what she might have been doing for income other than living off what her mother had saved.

I'm also not sure what kind of lore to pick for her. It's such an intricate world, I still feel like I know nothing.

I guess that's the point, I don't feel like I know enough about the world to really finish her history. That just means I have to keep reading though. Actually, if I hadn't been half brain-dead at the time, I probably wouldn't have posted it... I totally forgot that I was going to add an incident with slavers to her history but I meant to go do some research on them before I added it. Now I just feel dumb. That's what I get for trying to hurry my character.

I'll keep working on it. I don't like playing with a half-finished character.
