Sira let out another angry sounding shriek in response to his comment, but in truth she was more amused than anything else. Half the time it was just a game with her, a cruel one perhaps, but still a game. The fact that it injured a bunch of poor dek meant little to Sira. It was part of her upbringing that dek were expendable, and while she was a hypocrite when it came to many things involving the dek, Sira was just as flawed as any other endal, except in her own special ways.

Still, that last attack had hurt him, Sira could tell. She decided that perhaps it was time to stop playing games, at least as long as he didn't actually hurt her. A few pulled feathers were no big deal, really, they probably needed to come out anyway. His anger amused her, also. Few dek would dare speak out against a wind eagle, especially when it had just flung them across the room. Darkness was a feisty one, just like his blood.

Finally Sira relaxed, deciding that the game was over. She lowered her head and allowed him to saddle her once more. He really wasn't doing all that bad. His caution made it so that he didn't snag too many feathers. Sira had experienced a lot worse from other dek, so really, Darkness was a welcome change.. if he hadn't been a zith. That was something Sira found hard to let go of, but she had work to do, and needed to let him finish with her. Enough time was wasted. Assuming that he was brave enough to try again, Sira would do her best not to make things more difficult.

OOCThere wasn't a whole lot I could do here. Really, the thread is almost over I think, but at least we can actually wrap it up.

A Dangerous Task (Darkness)

It seemed like the eagle had finally decided to behave as the adult it was. She lowered her head once more, and Darkness grabbed the harness as anger worked its magic, making his ribs stop hurting for the time being.

"So you're smart enough to realize I'm better than any other option." He said as he slipped the harness over the eagle once more. What he didn't say was that being a better option than most of the dek in this city was neither hard nor something to feel pride about.

Careful as he was, the unwieldy saddle caught onto a feather again, pulling it out as before - not that the half-Zith had realized why Sira was attacking him before, so he didn't give this happening any relevance.

Slowly, he placed the main part between the eagle's wings, and then started to work with the straps. He fixed most of them into place by following the same rules he'd been taught to follow with Zith harnesses - even he, who couldn't fly, had learned that - so he was pretty sure he wasn't doing anything too wrong.

But then came the time to make a choice. In front of him were the straps that would tie under Sira's belly. He'd been toying for a while with the idea of getting revenge on her, tightening the binding far too much for comfortable flight, though hopefully not enough to actually prevent it.

But while he enjoyed the idea of giving this arrogant pain-in-the-ass something to remember him by, it didn't slip by him that doing that would likely earn him an enemy, if he hadn't already. Not to mention the possibility of another broken rib. Was his pride worth all that?

He even knew how to do it. He could plant a foot on her side, pull the strap, and fix it before she could even react. She'd be furious, of course, but she wouldn't be able to follow him through the door like a bird, and he'd be gone by the time she'd changed.

He sighed, forgetting his fantasies and getting back to the work at hand. He tightened the straps properly, letting Sira fly without any hindrance but, before actually securing them, he said:

"I'll see you again, when I've risen." It wasn't even a threat as much as it was a statement. He fastened the straps. "But for now, I'm done."

With a couple of steps back, he looked at the eagle, straight at the head, half-hoping to stare into its eyes before it left. Perhaps a vain gesture, but anything more direct than this would've meant throwing away his chances to learn here.

OOCIt's pretty much done unless something suddenly breaks the plan, yeah. Sorry if I didn't give you much to do ^^"

Sira flinched at the pulled feather, but she resisted the urge to over react. She was done with the games and had work to do. The half-zith wasn't doing a terrible job, really, though Addy was so much better. By leaps and bounds. It was sad, really, how much better she was than everyone else. Sira had often wondered why dek were so bad at their job. It was a wonder they didn't kill themselves by accident more often. But such were the arrogant musings of a privileged endal.

When Darkness was finally done Sira hopped back, turning her head, puffing her chest, and opening her wings a bit. Nothing snagged, nothing seemed to be hindering her. She did not have to make him do any adjustments, which was good, because Sira did not want to honor the zith with her true voice. She would not speak into his mind. She did return his gaze, however.. or rather, she returned it with a glare. Had he threatened her? She wasn't sure, but Sira was unafraid. He could not harm her, even with his claws. Or so she believed. Her talons were far sharper.

After less than half a chime Sira broke their gaze, the unspoken words between them ending, and hopped over to the ledge. She glanced back at the half breed, wondering if she should call for someone to make sure he didn't do anything stupid after she left. But after a moment of consideration, she decided that he probably wouldn't. And if he did, she could simply have him killed. He was smart enough to know that, and with that thought in mind, Sira flew away.
