A man to the side offered Davin a shield but he refused it, his training had never involved it until this point and he saw no reason to include it now. He didn't respond to his opponent's insult as he didn't feel it merited a response. Despite the man's confident display he saw the large errors in the man's stance, left flank exposed, left side could be easily manipulated into being exposed.

Davin launched a straight jab aimed at his opponent's exposed flank, just below the rib cage.

[Jantys Vane]

Jantys stumbles slightly as he moves out of the way, his face contorting into surprise. He barely manages to dodge the jab, but he hadn't expected such a legitimate strike at his weaknesses; the only reason he didn't have a bruise from his mistake was due to some small skill in getting the petch out of the way.

Although he was able to dodge the attack, that didn't mean he had the time and positioning to launch a counter attack, and he scuttles away a few feet, raising his shield again. This time, he made sure to cover himself a little more (he thought, anyways) and watches the better swordsman carefully.
