Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The Konti healer had the wagon. There was no other way to avoid it. Kavala was here to do some serious shopping to supply The Dreamcatcher for a quick trip across The Suvan. And the only way she was going to be able to safely supply the Dreamcatcher was to haul a wagon load of supplies from The Sanctuary and the Bazaar down to the port where the new catamaran waited to be fully loaded.

Kavala was interested in foodstuffs, things they needed to acquire food, and goods she could trade at the Southern Sultros Outpost for the type of steel and rare goods she wanted. That meant she needed to hit the suppliers up for dried fruits, nuts, and fishing gear. Larik and Cadra were with her, trailing her not like servants but like indulging overseers. Their aunt needed a trip, one without her child, without the responsibilities of running The Sanctuary, and where she could relax and find her smile again.

All the horses had foaled, all the cows had calved, flocks of chickens hatched, piglets were born, and goat kids roamed The Sanctuary. And everyone was re-bed to keep the cycle flowing. Kavala was nearing her dream of opening The Sanctuary for a healer's college, but it was still distant and she was still in serious jeopardy of falling short if she burned out and wore out before she could catch a second wind and build the facility up in the way it needed to be built up.

So this trip was necessary. Konti's needed to be on the sea, at least in part, and or living close to them. She'd been better since she'd moved to Riverfall, healed, and found her own pathway. And now she was successful. And part of that success was earning a break now and then to see new places and go to new lands. The trip would take twenty five days at the most, ten to cross the sea and ten back, plus another five to do business with the Isur.

And it was in this mindset that Kavala shopped, picking the things the Isur would want to trade for and all the things she'd need on the trip. the Konti wanted to go alone, that much was true, but Larik had already winged over to Riaris and Vanator's and informed them of Kavala's plans. One of the men, either her friend or her brother, would most likely escort her, not taking no for an answer when she claimed she wanted to sail the dangerous sea herself.

And so as she moved through the market, the wagon slowly filled.. barrels, crates, and wrapped packages. And when they were done shopping, they the three of them headed to the port to load up the Catamaran.

7th of Summer 513 AV

Ans had never been to a bazaar before so this experience would be a first. He needed to get a lot of things to ready him for adventures. He would need to train and some new clothes were necessary because the summer is too hot to wear dark robes. The downside of that is that he couldn't morph safely. He walked into the bazaar needing new clothes, a new dagger, some food, and a few animal snares for hunting. He walked up to a tent selling clothing and tried to pick his out. Something basic and light, he thought. Once he picked his clothes out he payed and left for another stand. Ans approached the weapon selling man slowly looking at every available piece. He only needed a dagger but a sword would be nice.

"No, he thought to himself, Stay on task"

Ans eventually got his weapon and went to a different stand. Ans walked to the stand with his mouth watering at the smell. He needed some meat for a day or two and some bread for the week.

Lilah had decided that if she were to be staying in Riverfall for a little while, she wasn't going to waste her money on food with the sea so close. A fishing rod was her main goal. Once she secured a fishing pole, a stand with many brightly colored scarves. She found a silk scarf, dyed a beautiful blue with ornate beads that hung off each end. A breeze blew by and rippled the scarf a little bit. Mezmorized, she stared at it. It reminded her of the ocean so much. She promptly purchased the scarf as well and tied it around her head.

Myya walked again into the city. Tucking the scroll in her backpack. She had only walked through a couple times in human form and each time she was sure she would get caught. Yet to actually be caught Myya moved towards the Bazaar. She needed to stop there first and then stop at 'Loads of Leather'. She knew she couldn't continue in a dress all the time and would need to do something about that soon. Myya kept her head straight and continued forward. Today seemed like a good day. Even if she had no idea if she needed tools or not. Sighing Myya gave up early and decided to get a set just in case. Besides, they might come in handy latter.

Postby Jack Benefort on July 17th, 2013, 3:41 pm

50th of Summer, 513 AV

Jack had finally decided to start taking things a little more seriously. It was funny. He chuckled when he thought about the man he used to be- no, the BOY he used to be, back when he first came to Riverfall. Back when he was still running from the truth, living a lie, and avoiding his own destiny. Back before Laviku showed him the truth, before Litani, and Tyral, and the others. He had traveled the whole of Sylira 'seeking knowledge' and he was so unserious about his supposed grand mission that he didn't even have a notebook to record any of the things he learned. Any close scrutiny would have proved him a fool and a childish liar. But that was behind him now. It was time to be a man. To grow up and really start taking things seriously.

So he was at the bazaar today, intending to finally, actually, buy a blank book and start keeping track of the things he experienced. So much would have to be caught up on, but there was plenty of time. He had no plans of leaving this great city soon, and he had time to think, time to write.

Upon entering the bazaar, his attention was stolen by a stall where there was a small man selling musical instruments of various different kinds. He was playing a glass ocarina- a beautiful thing. It was stained a translucent green, tinged with freckles of blue and orange. And he played well. People were stopping just to listen. When the thought of buying an instrument crossed his mind, Jack initially scoffed. 'It's a nice enough hobby, but no.' He thought. 'I can't play one of those things.'

Moving on, he continued through the bazaar to a stall where a man was selling various academic goods- Ink, quills, paper, books. Jack purchased 10 quills, a leather scroll case to keep them in, 2 vials of ink, and a blank book. Jack handed the man the 9 gold mizas and 50 copper mizas.

As he tried to leave, he found himself once again mesmerized by the man at the instrument stall. Finally, he could resist no more. He felt certain that part of his apprehension was related to his fathers dislike of the arts, and he wasn't going to be ruled by that. Whether he could play it or not, he was going to buy it. So he walked over to the stall and quickly purchased a long, wooden flute. He felt a certain satisfaction, even if it was next to useless to him.

Purpose: Pipeweed

There was a nip in the air as the Svefra paced through the market, his leather sandals weaved him through the crowd yet did little to protect him from the cold. While most would find this weather comfortable Davus barely found it tolerable is his loose summer clothing, people forget that he is a Svefra of the Southern Suvan Sea and the heat that came with it was part of him, even his tanned skin barely faded in winter. He had come to the market to warm his bones when there wasn't a fire that could and while it may have been prudent to invest in thicker clothing Davus had manged to find himself in front a stall selling pipeweed.
"You not find better in this market" The fat Eypharian merchant said in broken Common, he held up a pinch of Kilne weed and shook his arm vigorously as if that settled his claim. Davus couldn't help but dislike the Eypharian, too many arms to keep track of in a fight and hard to guess their age from their appearance, he wondered how his brother could stand them. "This is fine" He spoke slowly, making sure to pronounce every syllable for the merchant "How much?"
"15 coppers an ounce" The merchant replied quickly, hoping to move on quickly to the next customer.
"15! I could get that for 5 coppers. I ain't paying that much for some dried weeds"
"You must understand, very hard to find round these parts. My prices best you will get for this quality"
"That's crap, I'll give you 7 coppers an ounce"
"12"
"9"
"11"
"10, and I'll take 16 ounces of the stuff"
"Done, that is 1 gold and 6 silvers. I take now and my boy will give you your goods" He held his palm out, eager to collect the money and move on as he eyed an Akalak dressed in fine leathers and draped in gold.
"Hold on, I also need a pipe. None of those bleedin' waterpipes either, a real smoking pipe" He asked. The merchant turned to his son who tended to the wares and spoke to him in a strange language Davus couldn't understand. The boy rummaged through a crate and chucked to his father a dark wooden pipe "Is this what you want?" He asked holding the pipe up to him; it was a long pipe, about ten inches and thin as well with a small chamber for the weed and around the rim of the bowl waves had been engraved in. "Perfect, I'll take it"
"10 gold for the pipe, pay my boy" He said quickly, before chasing after the Akalak who was just about to leave the stall. Davus paid the boy before pocketing the weed and pipe and sauntered away from the market feeling warmer already.

It was time to be prepared. Kavala knew that a time was coming where nothing Cadra fixed for her would actually probably go down well. She remembered how much weight she’d lost during Tasival later term and knew that if she wasn’t prepared the Konti wouldn’t have eaten well. So to that end, the healer hitched up her seme mare to the pony cart and drove into town looking for the Zhongjie Warren. Kavala had several things on her mind. It was high time to set up a chest for clam digging and catching shrimp, crabs and all sorts of things. She’d need a large chest to store her equipment in, placing it by the sea gates, and she’d need lots of tools to have there as well in case others wanted to go help gather food for meals or just for group activities to help with the staff bonding.

Kavala drove the mare deep into the warren, looking. Normally people just proceeded on foot, but she knew no one would have a problem with a very pregnant Konti picking up a huge chest and a large order from the warrens. She stopped at the chest makers first, and picked up a large perfectly suitable chest that could house the gear she wanted. Kavala got one made of a sturdy water resistant wood and had the chest seller load it onto her ponycart. Then she headed deeper into the market.

Next she stopped at a knife crafter. These were not weapons, but rather chef knives that were designed to cook with. Cadra already had a rather nice set of knives, but Kavala flushed out her collection tremendously as well as loaded up on some Oyster knives that could help clean the clams if they brought messes of them in. Knowing how Cadra loved to bake, Kavala picked out two bread knives for her and added in four carving knives and four game knives for Vanator when he was butchering what they brought in hunting. Included in that order from the knife dealer, Kavala gathered up a trio of fruit knives, a cheese knife, and ten knives that were designed to help fillet out fish. Kavala highly approved of these makeshift weapons and knew it wouldn’t take much to get her to display them in the kitchen proudly where everyone could use them.

Moving on, Kavala made the rounds of the bazaar, her chest getting loaded. Soon she found the man who was a fisherman and something of a tinker who had a small shop of miscellaneous items to sell he’d crafted himself inventively. Kavala browsed his stores and found the most amazing thing. It was a tube designed for clam digging to prevent someone from straining their back or even bisecting the clam as they dug it. The tubes were foot long metal devices that had one end enclosed save for a small hole. The enclosed end also had a handle across it which allowed the user to shove the tube into the wet sand, cover the hole, and pull the tube free, removing a tube of wet sand with them. Then one released the covered hole, which broke some sort of suction, and the sand fell free of the tube. Then the clam would be neatly dug up lying in the fluffy pile of sand it had been hiding in.

This made clam digging easy, even for someone who was heavy with child. Kavala highly approved.

The man also sold a combination shovel rake too that worked well, as well as some small hand rakes. Kavala picked the shovels, knowing they would work better for the type of sand and terrain below The Sanctuary. Once she had these gathered and purchased, she pretty much had all she needed from the market. Making sure the long tools were tied to the cart securely and the chest was tightly closed holding her new knives, Kavala took off for home, happy that she’d got what she wanted in the market.

10 Oyster Knives = 1 sm

4 Game Knives = 12 cm or 1.2 sm

3 fruit knives = 3 cm
Cheese knife = 1 cm

Total = 5 sm

1 Large Chest = 2 gm
12 Mesh Bags = 5 sm * 12 = 60 sm or 6 gm
6 Clam Shovels = 3 gm * 6 = 18 gm
5 Clam Tubes = 5 gm * 5 = 25 gm

Purpose: Nut Roaster

Kavala was on a mission. And she had come to Zhongjie Warren to find a rotisserie nut roaster and a nut grinder that was a bit more effective than mortar and pestle. She needed a roaster that would hold about thirty gallons of ground nuts, made of metal, that would spin the nuts freely over a low banked fire that was gently tossing the ground nuts inside. Luckily Riverfall had a market in almonds and walnuts, so there was indeed a demand for such things. Even in the market, roasted nuts - roasted in bulk - were for sale as snack items and treats. Kavala started there, asking the first snack nut seller she could find where he got his roaster. Tight lipped, the man wouldn't answer her until she told him that she was processing karite tree nuts for cosmetics and medicinals to make shea butter, and not in fact going in to business as his competition. He then gave her a name, a booth, and before long she was headed out to the right area to find her roaster.

The vender was easy to spot once she arrived in the area. Isur and an independent blacksmith, he had a bit of everything for both the household and mass market. The healer didn't see a nut roaster anywhere, but when she loitered at the Isur's booth and then questioned him, he had both especially when she told him they were using them for medicinal purposes. The items were not expensive, so Kavala went ahead and paid him the twenty five GM and had him load the items onto her wagon when she brought it around.

Thus satisfied, Kavala headed home, her purchases in tow, ready to begin phase two of the Shea butter and Coconut oil.

Postby Chandray on December 12th, 2013, 11:43 am

Timestamp: Day 11 of Winter 513

All signs pointed to winter in Riverfall being an ordeal, in Chandray’s opinion. The foot of snow that had been dropped on the city the day before had convinced her that she needed to take the risk to spend some of her money on new winter clothes.

A winter cloak, warm boots, a hat to keep her head warm, new wool gloves for her hands, warmer pants and warmer shirt. This was what she was looking for this day in Zhongjie Warren.

Freezing and shivering in her too thin clothes she didn't look around too long. She found the cloak she bought a tad expensive, it was 45 gold mizas, but it was a full cloak made of medium wool, the color appealed to her and she though the buckle was common she liked it. As she would use the cloak for a long time it was worth the money...it could also serve as an extra blanket. Overall, she was going to buy things of reasonably good quality for their prize and use them for a long, long time.

Hats weren't exactly cheap either. But she spent 9 gold mizas on a widbrimmed black wool hat she liked. It was a must have. She bought a soft red-brown scarf of lama wool, and red-brown gloves, also made of lama wool. To this she added a pair of black-brown, furlined high leather boots, dark brown pants of lama wool, a red-brown shirt of the same fine material, and a red leather belt embellished with a beautiful fine buckle.

In total it cost her 58 Gold Mizas and 65 Silver Mizas. This made a dangerously big dent in her limited currency, but it was winter and necessity had now law. Content with the additions to her wardrobe she went home to change.

Purchases to add to ledger and posessions :
- Dark Brown Wool Cloak with Common Buckle - 45 gm
- Black Widebrimmed Wool Hat - 9 gm
- Red-brown scarf of Lama Wool -10 sm
- Dark Brown Gloves of Lama Wool -50 sm
- Black-Brown Furlined High Leather Boots - 1gm 50 sm
- Burgundy Red Leather Belt with Fine Buckle - 1gm 20sm
- Dark Brown Pants of Lama Wool - 1gm 20 sm
- Pale Red Shirt of Lama Wool - 15 sm

It was too soon for the Konti to be out and about, but need dictated Kavala come to town. She didn't want to leave Ia'del alone, but having Caelum there with his mastery of medicine was a bit of a reassurance that the premature infant would be fine while she was gone. And too, she needed things that she did not have for the babies at The Sanctuary. So if she could have waited, she would have, but as it was she left as soon as she could.

Kavala could have sent someone for the things, but it didn't feel right to her. It felt like something she needed to do for herself. Aweston had protested when she'd asked him to hook up the pony cart, but in the end gave in when she got tired of his arguments and went to fetch the seme stallion and his harness herself. The groom had taken the items from her, and grudgingly hooked up the stallion so Kavala wouldn't have to walk to town. She wasn't really ready to be riding again yet, so the drive was the best alternative.

The Konti took great pains with her appearance before she left, dressing in a nice strolling gown and sheathing her feet in heavy boots that gleamed the same buttery color as the gown. Over that she placed a large embroidered cloak that all but concealed her features in its warm confines and thick embroidery. But just in case she ran into anyone she knew, Kavala covered the dark circles under her eyes with cream and patted on the mineral makeup that was as white as snow. She looked almost as good as new as she lined her eyes and stroked a slight bit of deep mauve powder up her cheeks to give her pallor a healthy flush. Balm went on her lips then the hood was carefully adjusted and she went to see if Aweston was finished. He was, waiting by the stallions head. Kavala thanked him gently, climbed onto the seat, and drove the stallion out of the gates and onto the road, headed towards the city.

She left the cart at the stables in Riverfall as people tended to do, and walked on foot to the Zhongjie Warren. Kavala's problem was that she'd planned for a boy, and had been surprised by a girl. Tasival had baby things and they fit Ralac just fine, but Ia'del had nothing to wear. She was so tiny that everything Tasival had worn drowned her in a sea of fabric that endangered the girls life. All the baby toys were geared towards the boys, and nothing was small and soft and perfect for a delicate Konti grip or for a tiny konti mouth to suckle. So the Konti strolled the market looking for the things she'd need for the children.

The first things she picked up at a stall geared towards infants was a double stack of folded cloth diapers that were small enough that the tiny infant wouldn't be lost within them. She got pins and a rattle that were made of delicate bone, far smaller than any of Tasival's old toys. She moved further into the market and stopped at a clothes seller where she was able to get a bundle of clothing for the baby girl and some new outfits for Ralac so he had his own things to wear and just not Tasival's castoffs. Kavala moved slowly, carefully keeping her purchases to a lighter weight and in a large backpack she could carry easily.

She bought a few soft stuffed toys and was near to turning around and heading home when she spotted the stand of wooden furniture. It wasn't the rocking chair that drew her attention. It was instead the large free-standing crib that gleamed in polished white wood and was by and large well big enough for two babies newly born. She approached carefully, tears coming to her eyes. Had she been in a pavilion, her mother or father, perhaps even the father of her children would have presented her with such a beautiful thing. The merchant eyed Kavala carefully as she ran her hand over the wood and gave it a quick push. It glided into a rocking motion smoothly. It had a canopy and an extendable arm that held a mobile filled with animals of all kind. The interior was lined with cloth bumpers, a thick pad, and bedding that was appropriate. Mosquito netting was draped from the top.

Kavala blinked back tears and reached up with a hand to casually brush some away. She was here for her children, and they would want and need for nothing she couldn't provide. A bed was definitely one of those things... and Tasival had never had one so there was nothing to reuse back at The Sanctuary. Kavala had slept with him tucked up against her, somehow afraid he'd vanish overnight if she left him alone. So she turned to the merchant, and without bothering to negotiate, had the crib purchased and agreed to deliver it to the Sanctuary later that day.

Kavala thanked the man and decided by her level of fatigue enough was enough, and slowly walked back to the stables where the cart was stowed and her own horse was waiting to take her back home.

  • Kavala is a Konti but was raised in the Drykas culture so her accent is entirely Pavi though she can speak Common, Pavi, and Tukant well. She's only conversational in Kontinese.
