16th bell, 1st week of fall
"Wait, wait. What am i doing here?" She pouted, narrowing her spring green eyes as she wondered for something to buy. "Well, since I'm here, i gotta look for something to buy. Perhaps a new diary!" She recalled her old tattered diary that she scribbled on ever since she was seven. It was severely dog-eared that most of the pages were ripped off from the backbone.
She started gazing over the stores: novelty items of intricate designs, varieties of vials with different colors, steel-forged weapons, barrels of ale, frozen ducks... She almost freaked out the instant she saw the snakes and toads. She never liked amphibians. Besides the texture, she never liked the way they look -- those lifeless, piercing eyes gives her the creeps.
After three dozen chimes, she finally found a bookstore, a rusty old stall which looks like it has been abandoned for a couple of seasons. "I guess this is a bookstore." She observed. "Oh well." With the sign saying 'Open', she headed in hoping for a frugal book to find.
"Clink. Clink" Odd as it sounds, the door's bell rang. The feint smell of paper book lingered the air, the dull light flickered in the room, the stockpiled dusty books exceedingly overcrowded the shelves. It was much like the library... in a horrible fashion. "This place badly needs a makeover." She thought. "I gotta go look for a book though." Sophia steps forward, making the wooden floor deliver a slight creaking sound.
"Who goes there touching my booty??" Sophia shrieked as she heard a pirate voice beneath the counter. "Oh! What ye' have here.. a coin bearer." The fat, bearded man grumpily walked toward Sophia. He walked around her, eyeing the costumer from a short distance. "And what brings ye' here? Little girl."
"I'm here to buy a book." Sophia replied in a steadfast voice. Though terribly frightened, she hesitantly asked: "And you are?" Sophia looked at the man. He was scary, in fact -- with him wearing an eye patch and an artificial wooden leg. "All he just lack is a parrot, and he's good to go." She thought as a small smile carved out of her face.
"Ye ol' man's the shop owner!! Blimey, who else might I be?" He declared and turned around, heading back to the counter. Sophia nearly burst out into laughter. It was an odd occurrence to see a pirate become a book salesman. "Just bugger me off once ye' have gold to give!" She heard the owner stated as he gave a low grunt. "Moving on, time to find a book." She aimlessly wandered around and found a gallery of blank books, all differ in sizes, color, texture, and design. Sophia's attention was lured onto a small hard bound book covered with fine rabbit pelt, not too small for writing nor too big for travels. She then grabbed an orange-colored quill and a bottle of black ink.
"Ahem." Sophia cleared her throat as she approached the counter. She observed the shop owner as he cautiously stood up from his quick nap. He took a glance at her, then at the merchandise she was holding. After a certain pause, he gave a notable grunt. "Those ye' holding's gonna cost four en half gold mizas. Take it or leave it." So not to cause commotion, she eagerly payed the said price and hastily walked out of the rusty stall. |
