While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Creating a Mage Weapon

45 Summer 513

-Somewhere in the wilds of Sylira-

Today was one of the first days Clyde was really feeling up to much. He had a bit of free time as his group had finished traveling for the day, and he was more or less over all the injuries he had received last season when he had been... Tortured by a God? Or Someone the God was pretending to be... Or did that person even exist, and it was only actually Rhysol pretending all the time? Or was he copying a real person. Or had the real... "Petch..."

Every time Clyde tried to figure out what had happened that day, who it had actually been at first, and if that other guy existed or not, his logic lost all direction and ended up circling upon itself till it crashed and died. His first meeting with the God of chaos had resulted in a large space of time that was chaotic in his recollection, a fact which was not getting better in time. But in retrospect, perhaps that made sense, and he was not expected top sort out the chaos of that day.

Regardless, he had to strive on, and he did now have a direction. In fact, this entire trip with his various comrades was his current purpose. And what he planned to start today, was the first step of that plan being put into action. It had been a long time coming, he had spent several sessions just working on the aspects of it, gaining the knowledge and skill required to do it all. And now he was fairly certain he could do it.

It was simple enough in concept, if not in application. He was going to combine 12 of the highest level lightning spells he could create via Reimancy, each the highest quality work of a master Reimancer, himself. Using his superior Glyphing skills, he would hold these all together into one cohesive entity, to be released later as one mammoth mage weapon. Or at least, that was how he spoke himself through the process in his own mind, how it would work. He was still uncertain of its possible output, but it would be quite amazing, even for Clyde who was a master mage.

This of course by its nature was the prototype, the first of its kind that Clyde knew of. If it had been done before, likely the only place that would have such knowledge would be Sahova, and that was only if such a undertaking had been attempted. And how often did such a highly skilled Reimancer and Glypher work together to create something as he had planned? Probably not often. The only reason he could achieve it, was because he was both aspects, the Glypher and Reimancer.

Clyde thought back to the various training sessions and experiments he had undertaken, just to ready himself for this. He had done a micro scale version of his mage weapon, using several different iterations of switches till he found one that worked for him. He had painstakingly worked on his triggers for seasons, till he could do incredibly complex ones, and still have them work. Now, Clyde was finally confident in his own Glyphing skills to be able to do it. He was finally ready to begin a task that had been seasons, perhaps years, in the making. And who knew what he would be capable of once this proved a success?

Only time would tell. But first, this initial step had to be taken.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 8:43 pm

Clyde got into his Glyphing gear, and took out the materials he had specially bought for this process. Fresh parchment, more than enough for what he needed, which was a minimum of 13 sheets. Fresh ink, both colored and regular black, new quills, all bought in preparation. Such simple objects, yet they were all the needed ingredients. Well that, and Clyde himself. He would craft something new, taking these disparate pieces, adding in a heaping helping of magic, to create... Something.

He was about to open the ink, about to start writing, when he thought better of it. Instead, he sat down before it all, and began to think, and meditate, clearing his mind, letting all distractions billow out. Breathing in and and slowly and fully. He took on his old focus mechanism, that of a flame flickering at the top of a candle, but in the midst of utter blackness. But even though it burned, no light was cast or spread beyond its own body. That candle was his body, that flame was his mind, at least metaphorically.

Clyde spent this time in introspection, and working his way through what he was going to do, the paths he would take, the Glyphs he would draw, how they would look and mesh together into a cohesive entity. There would be the one main scroll, with a single large focus in the middle, which would be the release mechanism for the scroll, when it finally did discharge its load. It would be surrounded and linked to 12 smaller focus, which would act as a holding area for the spells temporarily. Using 12 separate scrolls as the catching mechanisms, he would flow the magic through them, expend them, and into the 12 subsidiary holding focus.

These 12 scrolls would be simple, a large focus with barriers sealing it in on three sides, and a open pathway flowing over the page, and onto the main scroll, flowing right into one of the holding focus. They needed to be big, since Clyde did not plan to be close to them when creating the lightning, not when they were as large as he was making. Even nature would have a hard time crafting a bolt of lightning on such a scale. And he was making 12, albeit spaced out over a period of 34 days. That would be one day to create the Glyphing and the first spell, and then another spell every 3 days. So on the 34th day he would finish the last spell, and would have completed it one way or another.

Then he would need to craft the box to hold it, using the chest he had bought for that purpose. But that would be later. Now it was time to begin Glyphing, and he would do so with the 12 identical scrolls that would be expended upon each of the 12 lightning bolts creation, in order to send it forth into the main scroll.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 9:03 pm

First he began on the focus, spreading out the 12 sheets of parchment around him. He had decided to use parchment instead of paper since it was more sturdy, and seemed a better choice for the weapon.

He thought for a few moments, dipping his quill into the black ink, and holding it over the first parchment. He decided on a focus symbol he had used before, for the first step of the sigil. It was a large circle, with a curving line all around it, like a wave or sweeping motion going up and down all the way around the circle, coming into contact at the low points, and coming up much further away before peaking and slowly beginning to bend back down and go inward. It was a simple focus, the trickiest part being getting the two ends to match up, the starting point and the finish. He had no trouble making the curving snakelike motion all the way around, but when he neared the end he had to slow to make sure the ends matched up, timing the curve so it would match.

That done, Clyde turned to each of the other 11 sheets in turn, till all 12 of them had an identical large focus in the middle of the sheet, taking up almost 2/3 of the page.

Next was the barrier, which would sweep around 3 sides of the focus. He decided to use a diamond pattern formation, using lines drawn similar to a series of X's drawn side by side, so they looked like so- XXXX. In this way they would close off, and form a solid barrier around the focus, while still being simple enough to draw. He did this starting on the top left corner of the focus, a bit outside of it and out of contact, and then swept around going clockwise till it ended up at the bottom left corner of the focus. This left the entire left side open, which was were the pathway would go, more or less a pair of barriers parallel, forming an avenue for the magic to flow down. But first, he copied the X like barrier onto the other 11 sheets, making them all identical. It would be simple enough when he was done and needed to use them, to turn them to match up with the ends of the main scroll.

Finally, at least for these 12 simpler scrolls, he needed to make the pathway. This would be a bit trickier, since he needed to plan these ahead, for were and how they would match up to the main scroll, but before actually making it. He decided quickly though that what he would do was match up the start of the pathway to the two open ends, and then while starting out parallel he would slowly slope them in closer together. So while it would start as wide as the entire focus, taking up the entire left side, it would end with a very slim opening flowing all the way to the edge of the scroll. This opening would be small, perhaps as wide as the part of his index finger from the tip of the finger, all the way to the first joint. Tiny.

For these pathways, he would deviate slightly, still using the X's, but adding a small detail. First he would draw the initial set of X's, making the XXX come out of the open ends of the focus, leading along to the edge of the page. But each set of X's would be a bit smaller, and a bit closer together, going parallel more or less, but not quite. This was for the desired effect of making it taper down to a small opening at the edge of the page. He went back to the other 11 sheets, and drew this same intial XXX formation.

But then, he went back, and on each of the points were the X's met to make a diamond, were it peaked, he drew a line straight up and out of it, away from the pathway in which the magic would flow down. In this fashion the lines would tick along, all the ones on the top side of the pathway going upward and away from the path, and all the ones on the bottom side going downward and away from the path. He did this likewise on the other 12 sheets, making sure they were still all the same, still all identical.

As he looked at it, his mind was doubled on the imagery. In one aspect, it looked like feelers, or antenna, like on a bug, poking up and out each each intersection. But then, it also sort of looked like roots from a plant. Or perhaps even like legs on a bug poking out the sides as seen from above. Or perhaps it was all of these as one.

Regardless, he looked over his 12 identical sheets, with the focus in the middle, the barrier on 3 sides, and the tapering pathway on the left side, and let out a sigh. That at least was done. And now for the hard part, the main scroll.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 9:37 pm

Clyde mind was buzzing with Glyphs, with images, with the task he had set for himself. His mind was totally on his magic, his attention only briefly being broken as Rye let out a yawn and stretched his back from his place sitting near him. He was not touching any of his equipment, as he knew better than that, but he was still nearby. Clyde however had been so focused on his task that he had forgotten anyone or anything else existed.

He stopped for a few moments, and blinked his eyes, realizing it had to have been at least a good bit of a bell since he started. He had lost track of time. He took a sip from his water skin to parch his dry throat, and then set forth working on his finest most complex piece of Glyphing to date, the main scroll of his mage weapon.

This one would be of finer detail, and he would spend more time on this one scroll than he had on the 12 others all together. At least, as far as his limited drawing skills would allow. A basic pictogram, simple symbols, were about all he could manage. They were always highly simplified and rudimentary. But they still got the job done for his Glyphing work. Perhaps he could do more when he got a bit better at drawing.

The main focus in the middle of the page, was similar to the others pages, but different. It was also a circle initially, but there was more to it than that. He took more time making the initial curving line all around and barely in contact with the main circle, because of what he had in mind for the next step. This was a second curving line, reflecting and imitating the first one like a reflection. This meant were the other one went high and peaked, this one went low and bottomed out. Likewise peaked when the other bottomed. It also overlapped at the middle points, causing the set of lines to appear as a double curve, meeting at each of the middle points, but mirroring elsewhere.

This first circle was smaller than the main ones on the other scrolls, but still large taking up almost 1/3 of the space of the page, but existing in the very middle of the page. Around this, he would make the 12 subsidiary focus, near the edge of the page, but circling all the way around the main focus in a slow curve, doing his best to space them out equally.

He did this by starting on the four points of the compass, doing a dot at each of these on the page, in this case doing one up, down, left, and right, from the main focus. Then, once he had done this he made the smaller focus around these dots, making them smaller replicas of the main focus with its double curve. Spacing things out by hand, he added in 2 additional dots equally spaced more or less, between each of the 2 sets of the four compass point focus. So this meant there was 2 new focus in the upper right corner, the upper left corner, the lower right corner, and lower left corner. Though not quite, since each of these focus arced around in a slow curve, all orbiting around the main focus at the middle of the page. He prepared these like the others, with a dot first, and then forming the focus around them. This was the only difference between the first main focus, and the 12 subsidiary focus, excepting of course for the size difference.

Now he needed to connect them all to the center focus by a pathway, while also connecting it via a pathway to the outer edge of the scroll, which would one by one be lined up to match one of the simpler 12 scrolls.

He thought this through for a bit, how exactly he would go about it. First of all, he would not need a barrier for the middle focus. It would release its magic as soon as the triggers caused the contents of the holding focus to be released. Each of the pathways from the outer 12 focus would meet up, till the totally encroached the main focus, allowing now spillage or escape. These would have a dual purpose, both as a path for the magic, and as a switch to meld the magic into one cohesive entity. Which meant each of the V's were the two opposite ends of the pathways met up with their neighbor would be in a different color. Which was why he had the red ink. All else would be in black, except for the red V's slowly curving all around the main focus, with the point of the V always pointing towards the middle of the page, to the main focus.

Each of the 12 smaller focus would have a barrier all around it, on all four sides. However, the side of the barrier closest to the edge of the parchment, would have a small trigger attached. They would activate the attached barrier once the magic from the simpler spell scroll flowed it in, more or less slamming the door behind it and trapping it in. Which meant the barrier on this side would not be active or alive until the trigger activated it.

Likewise, the side of the barrier closest to the focus in the middle, with the pathway flowing out of it, would also have an attached trigger. This however was unique, in that each of the 12 inner triggers were connected, so that they would all go off as one. This would allow for all 12 spells to be released at once, to flow into the main middle focus, and use it in its intended all at once setting, or for the spells to be released individually, depending on a second possible layer to the trigger. This of course was one of the trickiest aspects of the scroll, and why it would be foolish for a lesser Glypher to even attempt such an undertaking.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 10:09 pm

Next, Clyde began on the barriers, the 12 sets that would sweep all the way around each of the subsidiary focus. He had to think for a moment on how to do these, similar to the other bits, or different? He decided though it was best to go on with the theme, and did a wreathe of the double curves around each of the smaller focus. However, these did not touch anything, being just a hair away from the focus themselves, but still leaving a gap unlike the ones attached to the circle.

He did make one change though, or addition, in that he made a dot at each of the openings, right in the middle of the parts were the lines curved furthest apart. He did this on all of the 12 barriers, adding to the time it took, but also hopefully adding to its strength.

Each trigger was simple, at least initially, the same triangle symbol he always used, with the point touching the thing it affected. The one on the inside had the flat bottom pointing inward at the main focus, the one on the outer side had the flat bottom facing the outer edge of the page. he then inked each of the outer triggers one by one, with the same wording, "Activate this side of the barrier once the magic from without flows through this empty space." Once the initial spell surged in and was in the subsidiary focus, the trigger would expend itself, vanishing, as it affected the scroll, and turned on the back door of the barrier to seal the effect in.

Clyde made a pathway going outward, making it flow out of the points of the sometimes barrier, which would exist once the trigger did its work. He picked up one of the completed secondary scrolls, to check for the size of the pathway on it as it left the scroll. This would need to match up with the pathway that flowed outward from the subsidiary focus to the edge of the parchment.

Getting his measure, Clyde began the pathways, each of the 12 flowing out of the 12 subsidiary focus, using the same X pattern as the simpler scroll used. This was for continuity, to better assist the magic flowing through and working together. Once this was done, Clyde paused to examine his work.

He had already done a good bit of it, the 13 focus, 1 main and 12 subsidiary. The barriers, the outer pathways and triggers... This just left the inner pathways and triggers, and perhaps a second layer of barriers to go all the way around the outer layer of Glyphs, joining to meet with the sometimes barriers to turn on once something flowed in. This was a sudden thought, but seemed a good idea.

For this one, he did something different, but an old favorite, using words as his barrier to make up the outer barrier, forming a almost perfect circle around the outer layer of the smaller focus, except where it dipped down to attach to each of the outer triggers. The words were all run on, and speaking of the intent in which he imbibed them. Words such as "ENFORCEHOLDGUIDEBLOCKFORCEENSCONCEENTOMB."

Clyde slowly turned the page as he did this, so that the bottoms of the words always faced down at the middle of the paper and the main focus, turning with one hand and writing the Glyphs with the other hand, keeping this up till it circle all the way around the outer layer of the barriers on the subsidiary focus, dipping down occasionally as it met the outer triggers and needed to flow through it to contact it and allow its effect to activate it.

Now all that was left was the inner layer of pathways with their inherent switches in red ink, and the final series of triggers, which would need to be worded both carefully, and in a manner very odd, in that they would need to overlap with the pathway and yet not intersect or overwrite it, circling inward and around, and yet end before the red switches. He would also need to write them very tiny, in a cramped fashion, so he could put it all. In fact, that aspect of the main scroll might take as long as all the parts prior, or close to it, considering the time to think of the trigger, and to inscribe it.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 10:41 pm

The inner series of pathways would use the same series of double curves as the barriers had, but would be much smaller, and with a line intersecting each of the farthest points, cutting through were the dots were on the previous double curve.

Clyde drew them in one by one, careful to match them up, and watching where they would need to stop and transition into the red switches that were V's.

By the time he got here, he had used up a good bit of ink, and had switched to the second bottle. He had not yet used it all, but it was lower, and so would take more time to use it. It was simply easier to use the second full bottle.

The single bottle of red ink, he used a new quill for, and wrote with the red ink, painting it on like blood, bright crimson. V, turn the page, V, turn the page, pause to make sure the ends matched up and how to do so, V, and so on till he had all 12 done. Clyde let out another sigh, which caused Rye to twitch, and he began on the inner triggers, switching back to black ink. The initial triangles were easy enough, to turn off the inner barrier and let the magic flow out... But the wording, that was tricky. Clyde paused and stoppered the bottle, in order to think through the wording of the trigger... He ended up getting out one of the extra sheets of parchment, and writing out wording ideas on it, and what should set it off...

Finally, Clyde figured it out, and one by one wrote down the different triggers that could set it off, in its entirety, under the first condition that-

-Under the condition that the scroll is more than one mile away from its creator, Clyde Sullins, all of the attached triggers will release as one, freeing the restraining barrier and combining it via the switches, to release it as one from the main focus, if:

- If it arrives at its destination, the city of Syliras, and passes within its walls.
- If it is taken away from a person who has permission to carry it by Clyde Sullins, by someone who does not have Clyde Sullin's permission to carry it, and someone then tries to open the container it is in.
- If it is taken away from the person who has permission to carry it by Clyde Sullins by a knight of Syliras, or a agent of Syliras.
- If someone, besides Clyde Sullins its creator or someone with his express permission to do so, tries to view the Glyphing of the scroll by means magical or mundane, or to alter said Glyphing.

-Under the condition that the scroll is within 1 mile of Clyde Sullins, and any of the aforementioned triggers occur-

- Trigger number 1 will activate, and release its magic.

- Under the condition that the trigger in question has had the one preceding itself by one in a counterclockwise fashion activate 1/12 of a chime or more prior, this trigger shall go off.

Clyde then went through and named all of the 12 triggers, numbering them 1-12, clockwise around the scroll. He did this because he knew that if it was close to him, and went off as one spell combined, his chance of survival was nonexistent. But, with the secondary activation which set off the effects one by one every 1/12 of a chime(5 ticks)in a clockwise fashion, he had a small chance of survival, as long as he was not carrying it.

Clyde then wrote in the trigger conditions one by one in the same fashion as he had put on the other paper, though in small words, and circling inward starting with a layer just under the trigger and inner barrier, and circling along closer and closer to the main focus at the middle of the scroll. With that, the scroll was done.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 11:08 pm

Clyde did one final set of Glyphs, a pair of focus. He drew one on each of his palms, the same circle with the single curving line arcing around it as he had done on his initial secondary scrolls.

Now that the Glyphing was done, a good bit of the work was complete. Clyde cleaned up the excess equipment, writing tools, and parchment. He then carefully packed away 11 of the finished secondary scrolls, keeping out one, along with the main scroll. Clyde set the secondary scroll down so that the two ends of the pathways would overlap and meet, coming out of the secondary scroll, and into the 1 position focus on the main scroll. He found some rocks, and used them to pin down each of the corners of the scrolls, making sure not to move them so they did not meet up, but still keeping them solid so they did not move or mess up. With that, Clyde began to walk away through the wilds, keeping an eye on the scrolls, walking a direct line away, or as direct as he could. Rye went along with him as he began to walk off, keeping at his side.

One upside to being a master Reimancer, was distance. Unlike lesser Reimancers, it did not directly affect him. At least, not in this case. It took a bit longer for the directives to enact, and he did not have as explicit control over the res as he did when it was close to him, but he could still work it from afar.

From 10 feet away from the scroll, Clyde turned about, and began to exude res, flowing it out of the palms of his hands, from the focus he had drawn. But even without them, he was skilled enough that exuding res was second nature to him. He held both hands up and out, and watched as a cloud of bright silvery gaseous res flowed out in copious amounts. He could feel the familiar sweet tang of djed in his mouth, a joy and pleasure only magic could bring. No mundane pleasure could compare. It was a small wonder magic was addictive by nature, and called you to do more, even without the whisperers talking to you.

He flowed out more, and more, and more, and formed it into a long spike, which grew bigger and bigger. Especially considering it was made up of tightly packed gas. By the time he was done, Clyde was feeling tired, his elbows aching, and he had a small spike of res before him, over ten feet tall, perhaps closer to 15 feet, with a diameter that was as big as a petite woman's waist.

With that Clyde made a upward gesture, and floated the res up and over, to hover over the subsidiary focus, angling and pointing it with small movements of his fingers, till it would go right at it when he transmuted it. He took a few moments to check his angles, to make sure the scroll and res was lined up, and all was right.

Then he closed his eyes, and felt the pulse of his djed, his res, calling back to him, himself out before himself in the air as a glowing substance ready to do his bidding. He began to move away, 10 feet more, 20, 30, 40, 50... He kept walking. He was not sure how far away he was, more than the last number he had estimated, but still close enough to feel far off his res. Ready, waiting.

With a downward flick of his hand, he started a downward motion, slow, of the res at the scroll, going right down at it. A few ticks later, he felt a shifting, as the res began to move. Then closing his eyes and focusing totally on his far off res, he transmuted it all, all into lightning.

A tick later, their was a roaring crack of thunder which made his ears hurt, a flash of light that he could still see with his eyes closed and even with the trees in the way... And a burnt smell on the air Clyde attributed to lightning. Rye let out a yelp in response, and then stifled himself.

He waited a chime, and then headed back. As he neared, he could see the grass was scorched where the scroll had been, the secondary one, which was now gone. However the main scroll still remained. But more importantly, it had changed ever so slightly. The trigger on the outside of the number 1 focus was gone, along with the pathway leading out of it to the edge of the page. It had worked... The spell was stored.

I am actually in RL a super intelligent hamster from Rhode Island, with a 7 year plan to take over the world.

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

Graders note: :
Please be aware Clyde is a master Magecrafter. He therefore should not be gaining full xp(or possibly shouldn't gain any at all) for simple tasks related to this magic, such as low level MC items, particularly for repetitions of creations he has done before. Feel free to contact me if unsure of a instance of his magic use compared to his skill level.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 26th, 2013, 11:31 pm

OOC: Since it would be really repetitive to do each and every spell, and they are all the same, I will only be doing the first(in the prior post), plus this one in this post which is the halfway point, and the last spell(in my next post). Considering I am already maxed in Reimancy, I don't really need the xp anyways, since I can't get xp in Reimancy, only lores now.(Which I still enjoy and want *cough*)

IC:
60 Summer 513

Spell number 6

"Petch..."

At this point, Clyde was getting a bit tired. He had plenty of rest and time to recuperate in between the castings, eating and sleeping and stuff. But it was getting BORING! He could not cast any other spells during that time, not if he wanted to properly recuperate. So all he could do was walk, ride, boring mundane stuff without any magic. Even having to replace one of the scrolls with a newly Glyphed one when it got dropped into the fire on "accident," had not helped break up the monotony.

But every three days, he still went off by himself with just his dog Rye, and did the next spell. Though it was obvious to anyone nearby what he was doing, since the roaring lightning kept going off.

Clyde shook his head, and looked about as he once more set down the two scrolls, the main one and the secondary one, lining up the focus that would be filled, pathway to pathway. He was almost wishing for an attack or something interesting to occur, just to make things interesting.

He set down the rocks on the edges, holding it in place, using six, one at each corner, but letting the middle two be shared by the two sheets. It was all the same, all done and tried and easy now that he had it worked down.

With that he turned about and walked off ten feet, and then faced the scrolls, holding out his palms. He still had the focus from the last spell, but would likely need to add new ones for the next spell. But they had not quite rubbed or smeared enough to need replacing.

Instead he held up his hands, expectantly calling out his res, as the one joy in the monotony came out, the pleasure of the res being made manifest, the taste and joy which was so short lived and would soon sour and call for more.

His res billowed out, and he kept at it till he had the same as last time, a tall spike of res, tapering at both ends, taller than a man, as thick as a woman's waist, a smaller one anyways. There were some woman with the girth to match and beat that of his res spike. But this was a distraction, and he pulled his mind back from that thought pathway.

His fingers twitched as usual, making the res move about and shift, aligning, taking an eyeball at the scrolls for alignment.

Then it was back to the next step, legging it away from the area of the strike. He had learned he did not need to go quite so far, but a good thing to do was to hold his hands over his ears, and to face away from the res. After all, its positioning around him did not affect his casting, it was still a part of him.

Clyde let out a breath, breathed in and held it as he swiped his left hand down, and he felt the reverberation as a few moments later the res moved. Then he clapped his hands on his ears, and sent the impulse to transmute the res, into lightning of course. The light flashed even with his eyes closed and faced away. The boom crashed over him, making Rye bark once, and then grow quiet.

Clyde went back to collect the scroll that was left, seeing the newly activated trigger. He counted along, seeing half were gone. he was half done.

Creating a Mage Weapon

Postby Clyde Sullins on October 27th, 2013, 12:01 am

78 Summer 513

"Almost there Rye, almost there."

Clyde looked down at the scroll, a grumble in his stomach as he did, to see the single outer trigger left, on focus number 12. One place counterclockwise from 1, which was directly above the main focus.

It had been a long slow task, one he was not so sure about quite a few times. But he had not quit, even when he had wished to. Had not sped up, even when he reasoned his rate was to slow, to overcautious. Perhaps he could have done a spell every 2 days. Every other day. Or one a day. But he did not want to risk it. Regardless of all this though, he was going to finish today, and on schedule.

He had learned a lot through it though. For one, he doubted he would make another mage weapon quite like this one. It took to long, to much of his energy and attention. His next batch or version would be weaker, but faster to produce. Or perhaps simply just possible to make with others aid, unlike this one he did alone. Or perhaps he could make something that did many smaller spells, which he could make a few a day.

But whichever of these he did, it would not be like this one. Not in the fashion he had here.

Along with that, he would likely find a different means. Perhaps something other than parchment or even paper. Petch, perhaps something that did not even require a trigger. He knew that would be tricky, and use almost as much Reimancy as Glyphing to make, but it could work. But now, he had one step to take, and then he would be freed from his task, and able to do as he pleased. As soon as this was done.

Clyde placed the main scroll down, and felt a tingle up his fingers, which he attributed to the powerful djed of the object. It did not occur unless he was close, but it did happen. He assumed this was due to his skill in auristics, that when the items magical aura or effervescence rubbed against his own aura, he could feel it, even passively without trying. It was simply due to how strong and dense the djed was packed into the object. He clearly was going to need to make some means of cloaking this djed, so it was not easily visible to any Aurist within a mile. He had considered before doing so with a chest to keep it out from a concerted or conscious effort, but he know realized that it would be needed even to keep out any passive instances of power rubbing against trained readers like himself. Or heaven forbid someone better at it than him.

He set out the rocks, all 6, having picked new ones each time. It took a chime or so, but often the rocks got scorched by the magic, so needed replacing.

Then he backed up, and held out his newly glyphed hands, palms out. There was the feeling of flavor sweeping through his mouth, of pure pleasurable taste flickering on his tongue and down his throat, which made Clyde let out a sigh, as the res began to issue forth.

A chime. Two. Another. Clyde kept it up, till he had the needed size, shape, and density of res, just like the 11 other spells he had made. He made a few small movements of his fingers, fine tuning and refining its shape and state, till he was ready. Then he walked away, knowing the res was lined up just right on the scroll, ready to flow down into the secondary scroll, which would crumble and burn as it was used, and flow the magic into the main scroll, with its final slot to be filled. He now realized how good an idea that outer layer of barrier had been. He was not sure if it all would have gone as well, if not for that.

Clyde kept walking a bit farther than normal today, putting himself on the far side of a tree, and patted Rye on the head once. Then he turned away, and flicked his hand at waist height. He felt far off the echo of the order, and as the bit of himself felt itself move, and announced this to this bit of himself. His res called out ready for action, and covering his ears he acted. A willed thought, a order for transmutation, and then a flash of light and a booming crack of thunder as the lightning went off. He knew it had worked even before going back.

After a few chimes, he headed back to the scroll. There it sat alone, ready to be picked up. He carefully examined it, seeing that all 12 outer pathways and triggers were gone and spent. All of the rest was ringed inside of the twin layer of barriers, one of symbols drawn, one of text written. Clyde carefully rolled up the scroll placed it into the nicer of the two chests.

He assessed what had been spent. 14 sheets of parchment, a bottle of black ink, a broken quill, and this chest which he would soon turn into a work of Glyphing to go with the scroll. 34 days spent. All to make this mage weapon.

"This thing had better petching do its job..."

OOC: All of the things he expended are listed under his equipment, under magic related. I will take these spent items off once the thread is graded, when I gain the finished scroll.
