Alori flowed in silence for a moment, feet still kicking back and forth as she swayed her arms to stay above water. She didn't believe what Lavira did, the thing about having a choice. It was a noble statement to say perhaps, and one she was sure the leaders of the city would repeat. However, Lavira hadn't been put in that position before and she doubted that the leaders of the city ever had either. That was what made it so easy to believe the lie, because the truth couldn't be seen through the fog.

"I don't know Vira. I can't say I believe that anymore." There was a serious look in her eyes, a haunted look of someone who been forced to see the truth and now understood that some choices weren't choices as at all, just punishment. "Can you really tell me that you believe that? Can you look me in the eyes and tell me that if Kovac's life was involved, you'd be able to make a choice? Could you really think so clearly that you even saw it as a choice?"

She swam behind her friend, keeping her close as they talked. This conversation was never meant to be heard by others and she shuddered to think what might happen if they did. Lavira was awfully light hearted about the conversation, and that did worry her a little. Either the teen didn't take it seriously, or there was a darker side to her that Alori didn't know about. "Right, that's exactly what I mean. Gods it's just so crazy!" She stared at her friend for a tick, it seemed like Lavira was about to tell her something but changed her mind at the last tick. "Alright, let's go." The subjects were sensitive and she wondered if it would be better to just let it go.

Two Teens And A Pot (Lavira)

Standing on the rock edge that would lead back up to the slide into the cove, Vira turned and raised her brow at Alori's counter to her remarks about choice. If the god-marked other doubted whether the young endal took it seriously, there was not any now.

Before Alori could climb out, the teen knelt down in front of her, hands hanging between her legs and the intensity of the furrow in her brow bringing all the emotion she had to the fore. "You always have a choice, Alori." She said again. "You chose to kill a very sick Eagle whose own life would likely one day be in as great a risk as your own was. It is a devastating crime that any other would never be able to forgive. Had you chosen not to end it, it would have ended you. By what you said, you chose life; that you brought an act of mercy to the other in turn could be conceived either coincidental or incidental. Whatever, whichever, you made the choice to kill it, and survived as a result."

The teen's raptor features softened and the smile returned to the corners of her lips as she finally offered Alori her hand. "As for Kovac, yes, even then, there would be a choice to make. I would hope that the choice I made would save him and that whose life is in danger, but I could never guarantee that. I won't lie and say that the choice would be easy and certainly not without consequence; such precarious precipices rarely are, but I hope that whatever choice could be made would be the right one, not merely the one my heart would want."

Alori was about to climb out when she looked up to find very serious eyes staring back at her. Slowly her features changed as she heard the words, and the teen felt her heart skip a long beat. Lavira really didn't understood at all. She took none of it away as she had hoped. The truth was, Alori hadn't killed the wind eagle, she only fired at it's wings to distract it from attacking the Endal that had fallen from the tree. It had been that and the combined actions of another glassblower along with the eagle's failing health that did it in.

But the young Endal didn't see the full truth, and yet she was ready to make such a bold and strong statement about it. It was just as she feared, as passionate as her people were, they were just as proud, and stupid. Their arrogance and boldness were their worse features and some had to wonder how the race survived as long. Alori also realized that she had been the same, and it was only when she found herself in the situation that she saw things differently. Gods I'm stupid. Why did I even bother.

The teen knew now that she couldn't tell Lavira about the other, there was no way the woman would see her side of it, especially when she didn't understand it herself. Falling on one's sword was the supposed noble thing to do, but Alori didn't want to be noble, she didn't care what the world thought. She lived her life, and expressed her heart and soul, and that wouldn't change for anyone. Alori pulled herself out of the water and hugged her sister tightly. "I hope you never have to fine out...."
