Appearance, Concept, History


Appearance

Joris is a rather tall and scrawny specimen of a man, standing at just over six feet in height and weighing only about 165 lbs. His dark hair is often kept short and is messy for the most part, looking most often like he just got out of bed and decided to keep it that way. It is only occasionally tamed, usually only for formal situations as he obviously sees little point in a controlled head of hair as long as its short. He keeps a short goatee on his face, usually well trimmed and kept unlike his hair.

Dark eyes stare out from his skull, often twinkling with mirth or mischief though looking a bit far off when he thinks no one else is looking. Smirks that come off as rather cocksure and arrogant easily find their way to his face, making him look all too smug. A small scar is present under his right eye, where it comes from is a tale he gives different answers too with each one more fantastical than the last. All in all he fits the bill as a rather roguish looking man, certainly not permeating knightly virtue from his appearance alone.

Character Concept

Joris is a man trying to outrun the shadow of his origins, to wash out the stain of his past from his life. He comes off as arrogant and rather too sure of his own talents, however those that actually know him will find something of a driven man hidden just beneath the surface. While he might very well be a little cocky, and lets his tongue get ahead of his mind he is driven by his newly found convictions. He values the people of Syliras and the city itself above his own life and would defend them with his life if called upon.

This being the case he is still obviously a native of Sunberth, his nature certainly possessing less discipline than what one might expect from the average Syliran Knight. He respects the law and recognizes it is there for a reason, however he also empathizes with those living under it. He is easily torn between wanting to help people and upholding the law he is oath bound to value above all. He loves Syliras, he loves the brotherhood of the Knights, however Sunberth still stains his heart no matter how desperately he tries to wash it out.

As for magic, magic is another aspect of his being and mind that he sees as setting him apart from Sunberth. He see's it as being his method of expressing himself, his ability to make his will known. He values his magic greatly and is constantly seeking to push himself to new heights to make safe his new home. He might sneer a bit at those who know little of the arcane or dismiss it as a cowards tool, claiming that it is no less a valid form of expression than a longsword or shield.

Character History

Joris was born to a prostitute and an absentee back alley pickpocket with just enough Miza's to buy a bit of pleasurable, a low birth by all accounts. He grew up around the destitute and hopeless, emulating them in most ways and living day to day in the lowest ends of Sunberth. His early days were spent picking pockets and conning travelers out of Miza's, living the only life he knew and the one hundred of Sunberth child lived. It was the hand fate had dealt him, and while it was hardly a glamorous life it was one he lived without shame.

At the age of fifteen Joris picked the wrong mark, a mage knight of Syliras who was travelling alone on a quest. His first introduction into the ways of the arcane was being grappled from behind in an alley by a projected arm, then thrown against a wall for stealing a money pouch. The young man had no idea what that power was that the woman wielded, however he knew that he wanted to be able to do that as well. Weeks of constant pestering and poking around, following the knight wherever she went finally saw her relent and offer him a place as her squire.

Joris travelled with her for some time, learning the ways of the Syliran Knights as they went from Sunberth to Sahova, then Zeltiva and finally back to Syliras. All the while he was trained rigorously, instructed in the ways of Projection and the Glyphing arts. He was squire and assistant for all the travels, soaking up the knowledge of magic and Syliras itself like a sponge. He recalls walking underneath the massive gates into the fortress city as being the greatest moments in his life, when he felt part of his past simply melt away. A full Knight of Syliras now, Joris seeks to make himself stand out among the order and to forever escape his past within the arms of his brother and sister knights.

1 set of Armored Robes with plate boots, gauntlets, Chainmail and a breastplate: Owned by the Knights of Syliras, Joris wears the armor of his station rather uncomfortably and will generally favor civilian clothes for the most part. However he recognizes that often times, the only thing between him and Dira is a decent suit of armor. Metal plates and leather padding are sewn within the robes, providing further protection in a fight though it is bulky because of this and rather heavy upon the shoulders.
