[Joris' Apartment]Ghost writing

Again Joris found himself in his apartment, sitting at his table and dealing with parchment and ink in regards to his magic. The tall dark haired Mage Knight was dressed in his civilian clothing today, having no need for his armor in a situation like this for his training. He was not training his body after all, at least not his physical one but was rather attempting to train his mind and soul. Those were the preferred weapons of a Mage Knight after all, those things that influenced their effectiveness in being able to call upon their magic and utilize it to its fullest extent.

The tall man was hunched over a piece of blank parchment, dipping his brush in ink and beginning to draw out his Glyphs for the scroll he was to make. The first thing he was to make was a Focus Glyph, which took the shape of a large swirling whirlpool like shape. His hands moved slowly and carefully across the parchment, his dark eyes following the stains of ink that were brought into existence. Messing up could compromise the scroll, which would be a rather unfortunate thing to happen. Joris rather preferred not to waste parchment where he could avoid it, preferring to conserve potential resources instead.

Once the Focus was completed Joris moved on to the next thing, a Barrier Glyph that was to encircle around the Focus Glyph. His Barriers took the shape of two lines that entwined around each other rather like a pair of serpents coiling around their mate. Here he took even more care than with his Focus Glyph, the Barrier being the second most crucial part of a scroll for they prevented the magic from escaping the Focus until needed. His work slowed but that was only because he wanted at least some form of quality in his work.

Finishing the Barrier up, Joris’ brush started sketching out the shape of a simply treelike image right on the Barrier. The roots dug into the Barrier itself and the branches reached outwards from it, looking to receive the necessary information. This was his Trigger Glyph and was that which would allow for the magic to be released when certain listed conditions occurred. The Mage Knight wanted to try a non-verbal trigger this time around as he figured there was less chance of activation by accident. His face gained a contemplative shadow about it as he thought over it, nodding to himself once he felt he had what he needed for the trigger.

When blood touches the Trigger, it will lower the Barrier and release the magic contained within the Focus.

Not exactly the most specific of Triggers but even a simple Trigger was fine so long as it was functional at the end of the day. Joris wrote out the condition and once he finished it he put his brush back in the inkwell and stared at the scroll as he searched for flaws that were obvious. Dark eyes looked from Focus to Barrier and to Trigger but so far the entire design seemed rather solid to his trained eye. Satisfied with his examination, the tall man moved it a little over to the side.

The tall man rolled his shoulders, joints popping lightly as they received some use after the chimes it had taken to make that scroll properly. Glyphing could very well be a lengthy process, though it was useful in that it required very little resources to actually do. Glyphs could theoretically be written in any kind of writing material or possibly even be carved into something should the Glypher desire. Joris for his part had yet to experiment with other materials, though he might consider it an experiment for later as now he still had work to do.

The Mage Knight slowly started to roll up the sleeve of his right arm, moving his inkwell closer to him after he did so and taking up his brush. It was often best he found to place Glyphs upon the limb he intended to detach from his physical body, as it assisted in making the process a little smoother. They were normally placed along the joints as that was often where a good and safe Projection needed to begin and then end, the Focus Glyphs normally what was used. The tall dark haired Mage Knight made liberal use of Glyphs whenever he was to cast something.

First he placed a Focus Glyph upon the palm of his right hand, ink staining his flesh as the swirling vortex was brought into existence. As before he was rather careful and took his time with each and every Glyph, giving them the care and patience they deserved. From this first Focus Glyph he started moving up the joints in his hand, applying smaller Focus Glyphs along the way. The downside to placing Glyphs like these down was that they made it rather obvious one was a wizard, the symbols tended to scream being arcane in nature.

After a little bit more time Joris had moved the brush further up his arm from his hand, having placed the Focus Glyphs wherever a major joint could be found. The work completed the man placed his brush back into the inkwell as he examined the Glyphs on his arms, nodding in satisfaction at the work he looked upon. They would service well enough for his intended purposes here tonight, which were to facilitate the detachment and reattachment processes. Projection was not a discipline one wanted to afford messing up in, Glyphs could help avoid that messing up bit.

In any event the tall man moved the finished scroll over his arm, which he then carefully placed down upon so that it could record the detachment function as it occurred. With everything set, Joris focused inwards towards himself and the very tapestry of his being. He grasped at the strands of his Djed and plucked at them, unraveling and expending the vital energy that made up who he was in a nutshell. The tall man focused that energy upon the Astral body of his right arm, willing the part of his soul to slowly begin to detach from his physical body.

The detachment process he chose was the slower of the two, starting inwards at the joints and slowly moving out towards the extremities. The process took a few chimes to accomplish, his limb progressively losing more and more control until it was to the point where he could not have twitched his fingers if he had wanted to. As the process continued Joris’ face became a mask of concentration, the fingers of his left hand drumming on the table as a form of gesture for him to keep focus on the act of casting.

Finally after those long chimes his Astral body had fully Projected from his physical arm, the very act of it being separated consuming a steady influx of Joris’ Djed. The limb had stretched outwards from his Physical one, his ethereal fingers moving experimentally upon his command as he synchronized his mind with controlling the Astral limb. His actual arm was now limp and useless over the scroll, which had been filled with the knowledge of a detachment so Joris used his free hand to move it to the side.

He was in the process of willing his limb to begin to reattach when the thought of something that halted that action. How good would his Glyphs be if he attempted to draw them with his Projected hand? Was that level of control within his grasp perhaps? Joris stared at the other parchments nearby, a smirk coming over his face as he had discovered tonight’s experiment as he willing his ethereal hand over to one pieces of parchment. He willed his Projected fingers to grasp it lightly and drag it before him, which he placed his free hand over to steady it for the Glyphing ahead. This would be a rather interesting little experiment to be sure.

The Mage Knight willed his Projected hand to move to the inkwell, the limb nearly knocking it over as it followed his command. This accomplished the dark haired man carefully willed his Astral hand downwards to the end of the brush, closing the fingers around it. It was a delicate thing compared to punching something or flailing his dagger around as writing and Glyphing required a more delicate touch. He was curious as to how the Astral body could compare to the physical at the stage of his current abilities.

Slowly he sent signals along the stretched limb and willed it to pick up the brush and give it a light shake to get rid of the excess ink. He was rewarded with a few inkblots upon his shirt as his definition of slight and that of his Astral body were apparently different. The weight of the tiny brush was negligible compared to how it was when he handled his dagger, so that was unlikely to be a factor that overly detracted from its overall effectiveness. He needed to keep control of his Projected limb at a finer level in order to pull this off, Joris hoped he had that level of control.

Carefully he moved the brush over the parchment, Djed still flowing into the casting as he continued it with narrowed eyes and furrowed brow. He could feel the casting euphoria upon him as he worked and spent his Djed, it was both terrible and glorious at the same time. It was a common symptom of casting sadly enough; fortunately Joris had been at this long enough to where he could resist the calling of his Djed to him to cast more and more of himself. The Mage Knight liked to think he was not stupid or easily tempted by such things.

The tall man slowly moved his brush downward, the Astral hand jerking down at first but moving slower as he directed until the very tip of the brush had touched the parchment. Here it was, the moment of truth to see of his Projected limb could properly write and draw out what was necessary for the finer points of Glyphing. The Mage Knight swallowed, his tongue darting out from behind his lips to moisten them. He could feel the anticipation upon his shoulders rather like a weight, of course that could simply be the fact his physical right arm was dangling uselessly at his side.

Joris moved his Projected hand in the rough pattern of his Focus Glyphs, his movements even more slow and ponderous than they usually were. The brush moved as directed but his control over his Astral was either not good enough for such controlled functions or he was just not used to this. The swirls came out as crooked messes, looking more like random scribbling than actually functional Glyphs. The Mage Knight focused more, attempted to exert more fine control over the Projected limb, but even with his Djed flowing into it, it was clearly not like a normal limb.

The tall man stared forlornly at the scribbled mess upon the parchment, letting out a sigh as he used his still functioning hand to separate his functional scroll from the mess he had just made upon another piece of parchment. Best to organize it a bit better than simply leaving it all in one big pile after all, Joris would rather not end up throwing out a perfectly good scroll by complete and utter mistake. That would certainly not make him a happy Mage Knight. Rather than give up though, he produced another sheet of parchment and opted to try one last time.

[Joris' Apartment]Ghost writing

Joris again started moving his Astral arm, readjusting the grip his ethereal fingers held over the brush in their grip for it had been slipping out a little. This done the Mage Knight again lowered the brush onto the parchment, Djed flowing into fuelling the act of casting and sweat starting to bead upon his brow as he worked. The tall Mage Knight devoted the full measure of his attention to this task at hand, knowing full well that this was something that could probably be done with a bit of practice. The tall man let out a breath he had not been aware that he had been holding and started working.

The Focus was not as terrible as the first time, the swirls were still crooked and that made their functionality questionable to Joris but as his dark eyes followed the brush it actually looked like a recognizable Focus. He smirked a bit at this and then moved his brush upwards again, this time moving it right outside of the Focus in an attempt to actually draw a Barrier Glyph. The tall man carefully started to move the brush in the desired pattern with his Projected hand but soon found this to be even more difficult than the last attempt. The brush was all over the place and Joris could feel some sluggishness in his projected arm from the use.

The dark haired man sighed and set the failed second attempt off to the side, willing his Projected hand to drop the brush and then begin to move towards him. The tall Mage Knight willed the limb to begin to reattach to his physical arm, the stretched out part of his soul becoming smaller as it was raveled up. He started in the exact opposite way from his detachment, moving inwards from the extremities to the joints. This was another rather slow and ponderous process but Joris was willing to take slow as long as he did not end up crippling himself out of stupidity.

After a few chimes the last joint was locked into place and the tall man slowly raised his reattached hand up and flexed his fingers while rolling his wrists. He could feel the synchronization as being there, though he needed to remind himself that this was not his physical arm. The differences started to blur, the Mage Knight had started to notice over time. The more and more he made use of the Astral body then the more and more he was coming to see its superiority to the Physical. It just held so much potential that it was mind boggling.

This all accomplished, Joris went about organizing his table once again so that everything would be neat and tidy. He set his brush in the inkwell and placed it in the center of the table, smirking to himself as he did so with physical hands. He arranged the blank parchments together neatly and in a tidy fashion so they would be ready for use the next time. His mistakes were moved to the other end of the table, as he pondered not disposing of them just yet. It might be useful to have a comparison for a later date and time when his Projection finally advanced to the level of control his patron had possessed.

His scroll through was placed nearest to the chair and in a prominent spot, the fact he had gotten something out of the whole thing was at least worthy of note. Another Projection scroll could surely not do harm to his resources and having another weapon to fall back on in a hairy situation would be nice if a bit grim. He tried not to think about how terrible it could be to lose control of one’s limb through such means, it sounded like the stuff of nightmares. Everything being done and set Joris grabbed his coat and set his sword pin upon the collar, heading out from his apartment to continue the rest of his day.
