[Windoak Courtyard] Sergeant Markus Andres (Markus)

Windoak Courtyard, 7th of Bell, 23rd of Spring 514 A.V

That particular morning in the Order's most precious courtyard where the Windoak lived, stood Ser Petri Alvikal, wearing officer's uniform as he stood, no longsword on his hands, but an intricate small wooden jewelry box. Inside was a collection of pins used to determine a Knights' rank, on this particular day, a Knight named "Markus Andres" shall rise in ranks to be 'Sergeant Knight' as the Order deemed his leadership qualities were eligible.

There were added responsibilities to be a Sergeant Knight and so, not all Knights had the aptitude to lead a squad, they must hone on their ability to command and assert authority over their fellow knights and citizens. A Sergeant Knight commanded a Wing squad composed of five Knights after all.

There Ser Petri stood in silence, closing his eyes to take in the serene atmosphere of the Courtyard as the chimes ticked, Ser Andres better not be late.

Markus moved a piece of cloth over his chest plate. Wiping away any grime that had gathered during the day of patrolling. His stride quick as he knew punctuality was an important quality for knights. Ser Rhanan had found him as he was inspecting a pair of baskets full of fish. Told him the great news. Markus had thanked his sergeant profusely, thinking the man must have had a hand in getting Markus fast tracked for promotion. So there he was, quickly moving through the corridors and hallways that led to the Windoak. To believe it had already been two years since he had been there last. Up until the gates leading into the garden, Markus rushed, few steps before stepping in, he stopped. Took a deep breath and then confidently strode into the room. Markus stepped through the doors leading to the tranquil garden. Seeing ser Alvikal stand there brought back memories of the day he had returned from his quest. This time Markus could sense the mark of Sylir upon the man. It had taken him time to get used to that feeling. To be able to just instinctively know a fellow knight by looking at them.

The Lord Knight standing there in his fine armour, worthy of the second most powerful and influential man in Syliras. It was a good memory, one of the few that didn't have a dark side to the coin. Like most other memories of his. But today a firm expression on his face as he stepped into the garden with the Windoak. Sometimes he wondered if the majestic being ever got bored of watching knights walking back and forth around it. Must be tiring to see ser Alvikal put his sword on each and every knight's shoulder day in and day out. He walked directly for his superior officer and stood at attention in front of him. Awaiting his orders.

Ser Petri felt his gnosis gave a subtle soothing wave of comfort as he sensed the same mark from the approaching Knight - soon to be Sergeant Knight - Markus Andres, the stoic Lord Knight gave him a salute with his right hand as he held the intricate box on his left hand, the Lord Knight would gesture for Markus to be at ease before him.

"Ser Markus Andres," Petri spoke authoritatively as he approached Markus, then he calmly took the One Sword pin from Markus' tunic then opened the box to put it inside, "I, Petri Alvikal, Lord Knight, hereby promote you to the rank of 'Sergeant Knight'," As he said so, the Lord Knight took a two-swords pin from the box and fastened it to Markus' right collar, "You are now Sergeant Knight Markus Andres, you will be assigned your Wing squad as soon as you leave the Courtyard, please speak to one of the Scribes and they will give your squad's profile." The Lord Knight would then wait for any questions directed at him, if no questions were asked, he would simply gave another salute, signalling Markus to be dismissed.

Markus saluted his superior with as much respect and authority as he could muster under the circumstances. Go into battle, sure, no problem. Stand before a superior officer, that made him nervous. Markus eased visibly when the Lord Knight motioned for him to do so. Still staring straight ahead. Hearing the words of his superior, a man Markus had respected since he had been 16 years old and the importance of the knights had finally clicked in his mind. The sword pin, not the one he had gotten back in the day, but a replacement for the one he had given to Fallon, was taken from his chest. He sort of wished he could keep the pin, it held great sentimental value to the knight. Having worn it for close to two seasons now. But seeing the double-sword pin he took from the intricate box, Markus silenced himself and automatically straightened his back when the Lord Knight spoke the words out loud: Sergeant knight Markus Andres. It was a proud day for the Andres family. This might help him sleep at night. Give him a good night's rest without thinking about his recently deceased father.

"Thank you ser, Alvikal, it is a great honour and I will do my very best to live up to your expectations." Words of gratitude from the knight as he saluted his superior once more and turned around to go meet with the scribes. He would find the scribes soon enough, introduce himself and get handed the five pieces of parchment. He would study these later in his apartment. Then he would meet with them in the morning, talk to them as a group then single them out and see what they were made of individually.

The pride of the knight soared as he left for his apartment.
