The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Engghaen decided to walk back to his house. That was the most likely place to catch him, although he was never really at home. But she couldn't just walk all through Lhavit, could she? That was the funny thing about it. he was there, but...not really. He was always running around, being busy, sometimes messing with the Shinya.. How could he ever bond and settle if he kept doing so? It made no sense to her. Why are guys so complicated?

It was a funny sight. It was a warm day today, so the cat looked odd with her hood on, sneaking through. She was incognito, or at least, so she thought. It was maybe not the best idea, but well, she had to do with it. After all, she didn't want to risk getting caught.

Finally, after a long walk, she arrived at Brandon's house, the house where she had been sleeping the past two seasons. She still remembered that first night vividly. It was amazing and - for as far as she could recall - it had been fun. He was a rather good charmer, just sad that she didn't like him. But she felt hopeful. After all she wouldn't leave him without having left anything behind, and the cat smiled. He'd be all right, she thought. Nooo stress. She always stressed like that. And this, and that, and maybe some more stress, oh, yeah, we didn't stress yet, did we?

''Brandon? BRAAAAAAAAANNN!?'' she shouted around the corner, when she'd opened the door to get inside. ''Bran, it's important.'' She had no idea how he was going to respond when she told him the story. Maybe he'd be angry, but that would be soothed by the fact that finally his bed would be unoccupied again and he could sleep there. After all, he was still a gentleman, but gentlemen need their sleep and agility too.

There didn't seem to be anybody. Oh petch, that happens to me again.... She'd been shouting at somebody while she knew he wouldn't be there and... Oh just shut up for once and think straight, Eng... So she got down to the bedroom. Maybe he'd taken advantage of her absence and had hidden there. he was a bat, bats slept during the day. That was when she realised she didn't know much about Brandon. She had been living with him for long, they had played a game, yet there were still a lot of questions left unanswered. She did know that Brandon managed to survive without sleep longer than a normal person would, as he was a bat. But bats didn't sleep during the night, and so he'd make loads of nightly trips. Just like cats. Bats, cats, bats, cats....cats, bats, cats.. bat, cat. Catbat. Bacat. Cababat. Bacabat. She was thinking gibberish again and scolded herself for that. this was not the time to be funny, Eng.

And yet he wasn't there. She even searched the ceiling, as bats hand upside-down. No Bran. She checked underneath the bed, the chair, under the sheets, underneath the pillow...No Brandon. Now she got a little bit stressed. She couldn't get out of the house again, or would she? What if they found her? She wouldn't be able to go anywhere! Best would be just to wait here until he'd come back... Then the cat realised she had the living room left, the place where he'd been sleeping all the time. She laughed. Cold, hard, brown, wooden floors were much more uncomfortable than a bed.

''Brandon? Are you there? I have something important to tell you...It's..it's about the Shinya..I kind of..err...
Messed up a little.
A lot.''

Everyone knows pain and misery,
But it's how we survive that makes us who we are.

The late afternoon stare of the ever-brilliant Sun Goddess had almost lost all warmth as the part of day known as evening approached, slowly but surely the shadows grew longer and darker, and eventually they would envelop the whole surface. Though the weary sun was no longer able to protect the people from the dark, her eternal lover Leth came to their aid. With a silver glow meant to guide he illuminated the land slightly, enough not to be consumed by the blackness but not bright enough to keep it at bay. For the wise God knew that even creatures who worshipped and depended on the sun could grow tired of the blazing light she emitted. Or had it been Tanroa who had known? The bat could not say for sure, but he liked the tale he had woven to describe the scenery. Well, someone had to do it, though why he did not know. He just liked letting his thoughts trail off and this was what came from it at times like these.

Like the sun, the thief himself was quite tired as well, today had been quite exhausting after all. For one or other reason all kinds of events had decided to come crashing down on his shoulders today, at once. They’d probably met up in a dark pub somewhere and agreed to turn the thirtieth of Spring a very busy day. That is to say: busier than usual. Nothing much usually happened in Lhavit, the Shinya did one hell of a great job keeping all interesting things away from the streets, troublemakers and wild beasts alike. Plus, there wasn’t really anything the bat had to do, he had no real job so he had no workplace to go to, there was no need for a tight schedule so he could use his free time effectively in a bar or so. If he needed money, he went out after dark and took what he needed …. Along with a small bonus. But that was it, he could sleep as much as he wanted, he could eat whenever he wanted and he could do whatever the hell he wanted, yet he was not quite satisfied with that. And at days like these when he could not, he complained about being too busy. Honestly, nothing was ever good enough for him, but no-one minded.

It was on the way home yet another more or less interesting happening would reach him, though at the time he was not really aware of it, afterwards however…

The eventful day had left the thief rather exhausted, not physically, but more mentally, he felt drained and yet he still had no trouble moving, despite his assumed lack of energy. Probably the bat’s mind was not used to the fast pace the day had run past with. Anyways, he was almost home, a couple of blocks away still, as he heard a yell. Someone was calling out to him, loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear, but that was not what alarmed him, no. What did was the tone of voice used; upset, nervous and sounding like the person screaming was on the brink of tears. Said person was one he was familiar with, his ears told him. The way his name had been spoken, the sound of the voice and the place it was coming from … when added up there was but one person it could be: Engghaen. That very instant, the thief let go of his sauntering pace and accelerated to full speed without really thinking about it. There was but one thing that was on his mind, Engghaen’s yell which the bat interpreted as a call for help. In a mad dash the thief zigzagged through groups of people on the streets, stormed around corners and dived through the doorway, hands touching down on the floor, guiding his body into a rolling motion as to escape possible attackers hidden in the blind spots created by the doorway.

However, no swords sliced through air, missing his head, no axes or clubs swung down to crash on wood, no one was there. Yet, the door was opened, and the bat had feared the worst, still did actually. As his feet again had the floor under them and his body was pushed upright by the momentum, he shot wary glances through the empty room, his ears scanning for abnormal noise. Even in human form Brandon’s hearing was extraordinary, if he focused and there was no background noise –at night in a house where people were sleeping for example- he could trace a person’s breathing, though only if they were close enough. Then a laugh shattered his focus, he recognized the voice. Enggy. So she was alright?

Slowly the bat straightened his back and lowered his hands, unbending his knees; without realizing he had assumed a battle stance, prepared to take on any intruder or defend himself. Not that there actually had been a need for that. At the same time Engghaen entered the room, talking all the while. During that moment the bat wondered if she would have done the same if he hadn’t been in this room, he missed most of what she said, though the gist of it he received. Important, Shinya, mess. In short: trouble. The cat had been in trouble indeed, though a different kind than he had expected, but trouble nonetheless. And it was serious too it seemed, if he could believe the tone of voice, which still held that little edge of being upset.

All business, the thief turned towards her, saying : “What happened?” There was no need to say more, there was no need to ask if she was alright –she was clearly not- and if the matter was truly urgent there was no time for idle chit-chat, whether he liked it or not.
